It is said that in the Tang Dynasty a man named Zhang Hui visited the city of Song where he came upon an old man sitting beside the road,  1  a bag near him,  2  （read）a book in the moonlight. He asked what was in the bag, and the old man explained   3  it was full of red strings 4 （use）to tie together people destined to marry. Once people were tied together,  5   was no way that they could avoid marriage.  6 , he told Zhang Hui that he  7  （tie）him to a wife.

Zhang Hui felt it funny and went on  8  way. Not long afterward he met the wife   9   had been tied to him and they were married. This is why a matchmaker is sometimes called an “Old Man in the Moonlight” or   10 （simple）“Old Moonie”（月佬）.
