On a spring night of 1907， a young man named Alan went to see an opera in New York with his girlfriend． After the opera， they talked about it happily， then they left the theater． Alan wanted to go home in a carriage（马车）because he didn't drive his car and it was too late． It was only half a mile from his home and normal price should be about 10 dollar． But to his surprise， he was told to pay 100 dollars! It was unexpected and Alan got angry． He argued with the man who drove the carriage and they had a flight． Unluckily， Alan was beaten badly and he had to go home on foot with his girlfriend．

After that， Alan came up with an idea． He asked one of his friends to make a special clock． The clock could show how far a man drove and how long it look． Alan put this clock in his own car and named his car"taxi"．
