Hugging is an extremely positive form of communication. It expresses the values of love, approval, gratitude and forgiveness. Research shows that hugs have more positive effects on children and adults than just some encouraging words and a smiling face. Giving our child a hug on various occasions can make a world of difference in our young learner's lives.
On the first day of school, giving a hug coupled with a few calming breaths just might help your little learner overcome "The First Day Fears." By the way’ giving hugs for the first full week wouldn't hurt either. Hugs are relatively inexpensive and apparently very healthy.
It's the day of the class play and your kid is not so confident about saying a few words as a wild turkey in front of an audience. Giving a hug coupled with a few encouraging words just might help them feel more confident.
Usually, bedtime is the most frightening time of the day for most kids, who feel very stressed and may stay up. Giving a tight hug coupled with reading their favorite story or singing their favorite song may help them have a good sleep.
Besides, according to Intelligence Quotient Development in Children on eHow.com, "A caring yet inspiring environment is always helpful in promoting a child's language skills. Make sure your child gets plenty of hugs and kisses and hears positive and encouraging words from you."
Sometimes we get caught up in teaching, parenting, providing, and protecting our children that we forget to hug them. If there's one thing your child or student may need from you to help adapt their behavior or improve their IQ, it may just be something as simple as a hug.
A positive hug could change the course of the day for you both when you least expect it. So remember to hug your children often and put emotion behind it and really mean it!

A few things to do during weekends
to improve your life
Weekend at last! Something you’re so looking forward to after a tiring week at work. Here are several tips on how to make the most of your weekends.
Spend time with loved ones. Reconnect with family members or friends you neglected(疏忽) lately. Don’t do it out of guilt or because you have to. Do it because you want to. Reach out to them to see how they are doing. Return their calls if you were busy when they last tried to reach you. Talk to them. Listen to them. Be there for them.
Stay away from TV, iPad, iPhone and any other electronic devices. Unplug! Your brain needs to clear up from all the stress you’ve put on yourself during the week. Why not read a book instead? A paper one. Seriously, when was the last time you did that?
Laugh, laugh and laugh again. You can never have enough of it. Laugh is the best medicine ever. For example, it helps you manage stress, strengthen your immune system and you are 40 percent less likely to suffer a heart attack.
Express appreciation. Be grateful for your family, friends, health, the food you put on the table, the clothes you wear and the air that you breathe.

Most cars have seat belts as part of their equipment. Seat belts protect drivers and passengers in case of accidents. They also reduce the effect of a crash on the body. Worldwide, the devices have protected up to a million people.
America first recognized the invention of an automobile seat belt in 1849. The government gave a patent to an engineer named Edward Claghorn of New York City so that others would not copy his invention of a safety device. This early version of safety belt was said to include hooks and other attachments for securing the person to a fixed object.
Other inventors followed with different versions of the seat belt. It resulted from the work of a Swedish engineer, Nils Bohlin. His three-point, lap and shoulder seat belt first appeared on cars in Europe 50 years ago.
Nils Bohlin recognized that both the upper and lower body needed to be held securely in place. His invention contained a cloth strap(带子)that was placed across the chest and another strap across his hips.
Volvo was the first company to offer the modern seat belt to its cars. This company also provided use of Nils Bohlin's design to other car-makers.
He received a gold medal from the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences in 1995. He died in Sweden in 2002.

Flash Mob: The Pop Culture
If you see a group of people dancing and singing on the street or in the railway station, you don’t need to feel surprised. They are a flash mob. Who are they? Are they mobs (暴民)? Actually, a flash mob is a group of people who gather suddenly in a public place, do something unusual for a brief period of time, and then quickly separate.
A flash mob is usually organized with the help of the Internet or other digital communications networks. At a predetermined time, they gather and perform some tasks such as exchanging books, coming together to look at the sky, waving their hands and yelling something at the top of their lungs for 30 seconds. Then, they quickly disappear before the police can arrive.
Bill Wasik, senior editor of Harper’s Magazine, organized the first flash mob in Manhattan in May 2003 and the first successful flash mob gathered on June 3, 2003 at Macy’s department store. More than one hundred people stepped onto the ninth floor carpet department of Macy’s department store, gathering around an expensive carpet. Following this flash mob, about 200 people flooded the lounge of the Hyatt hotel and applauded for about fifteen seconds.
Flash mob gatherings can sometimes shock people. Such an activity might seem amusing, but it might also frighten people who are not aware of what is taking place. They also have enormous economic potential, such as using flash mobs to advertise a product.
People use it to do many things. For example, in 2009, Michael Jackson’s fans took part in a flash mob to remember him. Hundreds of his fans gathered outside the railway station in Liverpool. They were singing and dancing Michael’s famous song “Beat It” together. And in another example, some people took part in a flash mob to tell more people not to use negative words.
Flash mobs give people from all walks of life an opportunity to come together to create a memory.
A.Don’t be confused by their name. |
B.People are attracted by the silly and harmless activities. |
C.The flash mob is now becoming more and more popular. |
D.Using mobile phones, the flash mob can change their gathering place. |
E.A later mob saw hundreds of people in Central Park making bird noises.
F.The messages may be forwarded to friends, who forward to more people.
G.Undoubtedly, flash mobs can serve as good political tools in any direction.
[1] Joshua Lionel Cowen,a New York inventor, was born in l 877.In 1 900,he created maybe the most popular Christmas toy of the last century —little electric trains that circle Christmas trees.More than 50 million Lionel train sets have been sold worldwide, and today Lionel produces more than 300 miles of track each year.
[2] Like many American inventors,Josh Cowen, who died in l965,was self-taught.According to history books.when he was 7 he carved a wooden toy train and tried to put a little steam engine on it.The engine blew up,but there were no complaints from his parents and eight brothers and sisters.
[3] As a 23-year-old working at an electric fan company,Cowen dreamed up putting a little battery—powered fan motor onto a wooden toy train he called the Electric Express. He took it to a toy store, and they put it in the window to replace a train you had to push around by hand.Within days,Christmas shoppers snapped up six Lionel trains, and the company business took off.
[4]While there were many toy train companies—the first electric train was exhibited at the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago—Cowen’s invention beat them a11.probably because he tied it to Christmas and produced the toy villages and other things to put around the tree and the train.Still, competition has not stopped.Today there are many companies making toy trains of all sizes, some on tracks using electricity, some on the floor using wind-up springs(发条).
[5] One of the best places in Washington to see a big toy train display is the U.S.Botanic Garden. The big glass building at the foot of the U.S.Capitol has a single train running in one room and a bunch of trains in another big room.____________________________ is one of the most popular holiday attractions in the city.

Have you ever noticed that the more you have the more you want? Let's face it. Thinking our life is good enough doesn't e naturally to many people. When we have high expectations of everything in life, we will run into disappointment. Only when we are aware that needs are different from desires can we live with satisfaction.
Most people want things to be better than they are, or when things are going well, we forget to appreciate what we have. Learn to reflect on how much better things are than they could be. Write down 5 things you are grateful for right now.
When we hold onto regrets from decisions we have made, it can really poison our well-being. Many people regret something they can no longer change, which ends up holding them back from moving forward in a more positive manner. so work to stay present and be mindful of the cur- rent moment to find more joy and fulfillment.
When we use other people as the measuring stick for our personal success and quality of life ,we are likely to be less satisfied. Social parisons can provide useful information when we try to learn from others. but they also hold our perspective in a discontented position.
When you focus on your big ambitions and future goals, you might neglect the daily pleasures that surround you. Stay present and focus on the task you're undertaking at the moment .Don't let the life pass you by because you're always on the go and distracted by ambitions.
Practice looking at life through the lens(镜头) of contentment and it will bee more natural.

A major source of teen stress is school exams, and test anxiety is not uncommon. When you recognize your teen is under stress, how can parents help your teen stay calm before an exam?
Be involved. Parents need to be involved in their teen’s work. What they look for is your presence — to talk, to cry, or simply to sit with them quietly. Communicate openly with your teen. Encourage your teen to express his worries and fears, but don’t let them focus on those fears.
Help them get organized. Together , you and your teen can work out a time—table in which he can study for what he knows will be on the test.
Provide a calm setting. Help your teen set up a quiet place to study and protect his privacy. Give them a nutritious diet. It is important for your teen to eat a healthy, balanced diet during exam times to focus and do his best. If this happens, encourage your teen to eat light meals or sandwiches. A healthy diet, rather than junk food, is best for reducing stress.
Persuade your teenager to get some sleep and /or do something active when he needs a real break from studying. Making time for relaxation, fun, and exercise are all important in reducing stress. Help your teen balance his time so that he will feel comfortable taking time out from studying to spend time with friends or rest.
Show a positive attitude. Your panic, anxiety and blame contribute to your teen’s pressure. Make your teen feel accepted and valued for his efforts. Most importantly, reassure your teen that things will be all right , no matter what the results are.
A.A parent’s attitude will dictate their teen’s emotions. |
B.Exam stress can make some teens lose their appetite. |
C.They will only make the situation worse. |
D.Encourage your teen to relax. |
E. The best thing is simply to listen.
F. Help your teen think about what he has to study and plan accordingly.
G. Your teen may also make negative comments about themselves
On keeping a Diary in English
Keeping a diary in English is one of the__ (effect) ways to improve our English writing ability.
__ (compare) with other forms of writing, it is shorter and takes___ time. It can help us to develop the habit of thinking in English.___ we persist in this practice, gradually we’ll learn how to express ourselves in English. In keeping a diary in English, we certainly run up against many __(difficult). In the first place, __ often happens that we have trouble __(find) appropriate words and phrases to give expression to our mind. Secondly, there are many idiomatic ways of saying things in Chinese. And it is extremely hard for us to put them into English properly.
As far as I _ (concern), my suggestion is that we should always have a notebook and a Chinese-English dictionary within easy reach. SubliminaI(隐性)advertising happens every day. Shoppers are regularly encouraged to buy by appeals to their senses or unconscious assumptions. I recently carried out a series of research experiments to uncover the ways advertisers use to confuse us to Pull out our wallets. Here are several techniques you should know about.
We fall for "tradition". Some people believe that squeezing a lime(酸橙) into a Corona beer is a time-honored Mexican custom to improve the beer's taste or destroy bacteria(细菌). The truth? It dates back only t0 1981, when a bartender (酒保) threw a lime into the neck of a Corona to see if he could start a trend. This simple act, which caught on like wildfire, helped Corona become the best -selling imported beer in the U.S. market.
Music makes us buy. Store owners know that playing music with a beat faster than the human heartbeat causes shoppers to shop quickly and therefore buy less. The slower the beat, the more time shoppers will take, and the greater the chances are that they'll buy something.
Shapes have a draw. A large food maker once tested two different containers holding exactly the same. The only difference? Shapes .When asked which product they preferred, every one selected the first bottle that is narrow around the middle and thicker at the top and on the bottom.
Places help decide. Let's say I offered you a choice of two new cars. They're of the same model, the same color, and they have the same parts. There's only one difference: One is made in Turkey, and the other in Germany. My guess is that you'd pick the German model, since you associate Germany with superb techniques.

[1]Jogging is a great way to have fun and stay in shape. But is it safe? Yes,it can be,as long as you are making it safe. There is no reason that you can’t share the road with everyone.
[2]First of all,it is best to run with a partner, just in case something would go wrong. But some people enjoy running as a way to be alone and get away for a while.I must admit I am guilty of this one myself. So if possible, bring a cell phone.and I always carry it in my hand if I don’t have pockets.
[3]I know the number one worry when jogging on the road is traffic. You can’t control who is driving on the road, but there are precautions that you can take.Avoid running at night, even with reflective clothes. And also avoid running in bad weather. When conditions are bad,try to use alternative fornls of exercises.

[5]Warm-up is a must when jogging, especially for long distances. If you don’t,cramps(痉挛)are very likely to happen, and they are not fun at all,not to mention pulling or straining muscles. As you have probably noticed, some students are more successful than others when taking such an examination. Often the more successful students are better prepared. However, sometimes students who do well have better strategic skills that make taking test easier, and therefore provide better results.
Here are some very important and often ignored guidelines to taking a test successfully.
Do not insist on completing each question before going to the next. This is extremely important. If you spend a lot of time on one question that you don’t understand there can be two negative outcomes:
Losing time. Remember one question may only be worth one point, if you are not able to answer questions later because you have lost time you could lose more points!
Becoming nervous. Becoming nervous can make you lose your concentration and leads to worse results.
If possible, go through the entire test answering the questions you are sure you know. This results in your being more relaxed and feeling more confident.
Go through the test a second time working out the answers to more difficult questions. Now you will feel more confident and this will improve your test taking. However, remember not to waste too much time on any one question.
Once you have gone through the test twice, see if any of the questions asked can help you answer those really difficult questions. This is a little used trick. Sometimes questions asked are answered in later questions asking for different things. This should not be tried until you have finished the test and have some time remaining to try the questions you have had problems with again.
If you have a strong feeling about a question when you first answer it, don’t go back and change later. Usually(but not always) a strong first impulse(冲动)means we know the answer and we don’t really have to think about it too much. Going back to think about it usually makes you unsure and often causes an error. This is very common so be very careful!
