A. Help the people around you smile.
B. Appreciate life's perfect moments.
C. Become addicted to constant self- improvement.
D. Celebrate your existence.
E. Live and breathe the truth.
F. Spend time with positive people.
Some Habits of Super Positive People
Life is full of positive experiences. Notice them. Notice the sun warming your skin, the small child learning to walk, and the smiling faces around you. Smell the rain, and feel the wind. Live your life to the fullest potential by enjoying the beauty of these experiences, and letting them inspire you to be the most positive version of YOU.
Living a positive life is all about creating positive habits to help you focus on what truly matters. This is the secret of super positive people. Here are some simple ideas to help you follow in their footsteps.
_________
Life's too wonderful to waste time with people who don't treat you right. So surround yourself with people who make you happy and make you smile. People who help you up when you're down. People who would never take advantage of you. People who genuinely care. They are the ones worth keeping in your life. Everyone else is just passing through.
__________
Your life isn't perfect, but it does have perfect moments. Don't let the little things get you down. You've got plenty of reasons to look up at the sky and say, "Thank you, I will do my best to make this a great day. " So slow down and pause for a moment to stand in awe of(敬畏) the fact that you are alive, and that you have the ability to rediscover life as the miracle it has always been.
__________
It doesn't have to be January 1st to give yourself a chance to make good use of your life. Every day is a new day to learn, grow, develop your strengths, heal yourself from past regrets, and move forward. Every day gives you a chance to reinvent yourself, to adjust who you are, and build on the lessons you have learned. It is never too late to change things that are not working in your life. Using today wisely will always help you create a more positive tomorrow.
_________
It's the most positive, stress-free way to live, because the truth always reveals itself eventually anyway. So don't aim to be impressive, aim to be true. Those who are true are truly impressive. Being true means having integrity; and integrity is doing the right thing even when you know nobody is watching.
__________
Today, give someone one of your smiles. It might be the only sunshine they see all day. Sometimes just a single genuine smile or praise can lift a person's spirits to new heights. At the right time, a kind word from a stranger, or unexpected encouragement from a friend, can make all the difference in the world. Kindness is free, but it's priceless. And as you know, what goes around comes around.

下面文章中有5个段落需要添加首句(第1~5 题)。请从以下选项(A、B、C、D、E 和 F)中选出适合各段落的首句,并在答题纸上将该选项标号涂黑。选项中有一项是多余选项。
A. Get to know yourself.
B. Take care of your body.
C. Practice basic respect towards yourself.
D. Be honest with yourself and with others.
E. Think about what it means to respect someone.
F. Recognize when people disrespect you and take steps to stop it.
How to Respect Yourself
A lack of self-respect can prevent you from fulfilling your potential and developing healthy relationships. Here are some steps to help you know how to respect yourself.
__________ The qualities that we respect vary from person to person, and the way we express it varies from culture to culture. Generally, we respect people who have more experience and are more accomplished than ourselves. But there is also a basic level of respect that most people will agree is a right, and does not need to be earned. So think about what it means to respect others. Here are some widely agreed-upon signals of respect: You don’t steal from, harm, or insult them; you are honest with them; you listen to what they say, consider their opinions, and avoid interrupting them.
__________ We often do things for ourselves that we would never dream of doing for someone we care about. Whatever you believe to be respectful, apply it to yourself. Don’t harm yourself. Don’t insult yourself. Don’t steal from yourself. Be honest with yourself. Develop your own opinions and don’t be afraid to stand by them.
__________ A person with self-respect doesn’t allow others to treat them badly, and would rather not be around someone who is disrespectful. This might seem obvious, but there are many times when we accept being treated badly. When someone doesn’t give you basic respect, you need to be able to say, in one way or another, “You just disrespected me and that’s not acceptable! If you don’t respect me, I won’t spend time with you any more.” Can you say that, and mean it?
Can you turn your back on someone who’s clearly shown that they don’t respect you? Once you do, you’ll feel your sense of self-respect go up.
__________ When you make an effort to keep your body in good working order, you’ll not only feel better physically, but also  feel a sense of pride. Respecting your body also means not insulting it for what it is, naturally. Make an effort to get fit and stay healthy. Focus on the things you can change and improve, and do them because it feels good.
__________ The more you know about yourself, the more you’ll see and appreciate how unique you really are. And you’ll respect yourself more. Discover your principles, personality, and talents. Stop waiting for other people’s approval and start developing your own standards.
Develop a unique and original way of expressing your opinions while at the same time being a good listener.

A. A shocking report
B. Solution to the terrifying result
C. What is global warming?
D. Many shocking things were found.
E. Greater danger of extinction
F. A careful analysis biologically

The earth is getting warmer. People burn coal, oil and gas and this produces carbon dioxide, methane (沼气) and nitrous oxide. These gases, called “greenhouse gases”, prevent the heat of the sun from leaving the earth’s upper atmosphere and this makes the earth warmer.

A few weeks ago a group of scientists produced a report about global warming and the natural world. They wanted to find out if global warming was dangerous for plants and animals. According to what they found, the scientists say that during the next 50 years about 25% of land animals and plants will become extinct. More than a million plant and animal species will be extinct by 2050.

More than 10% of all plants and animals will become extinct. It is too late to save many plants and animals because of the greenhouse gases that are already in the atmosphere. But the scientists say if we control greenhouse gases now, we could save many more plants and animals from extinction.

The scientists studied some regions of the world with a very rich biology. These were Europe, Australia, Central and South America, and South Africa. Their studies showed that species living in mountainous areas had a better chance of survival because they could move uphill, to get cooler. In flat areas, such as deserts, plants and animals would have to move a very long distance to get cooler, so they are in greater danger of extinction.

The scientists found that half of the 24 species of butterflies they studied in Australia would soon become extinct. 60% of the species in the Kruger National Park in South Africa would also die out, and more than 100% of the 300 South Africa plant species they studied would also become extinct. One of the plants in danger of extinction is the national flower of South Africa, the King Protea. They studied 163 tree species in the Cerrado region of Brazil and found that 70 would become extinct. Many of the plants and trees that live in the region live nowhere else in the world. In Mexico, they studied 1,870 species and found that more than 30% of these were in danger of extinction.

下面文章中有5个段落需要添加首句(第1~5题)。请从以下选项(A, B, C, D, E和F)中选出适合各段落的首句,并在答题纸上将相应选项的标号涂黑。选项中有一项是多余选项。

A.

Come in with something to say.

B.

Prepare general comments.

C.

Bring materials with you.

D.

Don't make them wait.

E.

Have no fear.

F.

Go it alone.

One of the best things you can do any time in the semester is go see the professor. So hoof on over to an office hour and have some one-on-one face time with someone who'll help you master the material and improve your grade, to boot. But how should you have this conversation with the professor? Here are five insider tips about how to make that office hour really count:
1 No need to get all bent out of shape about going to see the professor. The professor would actually like to see you and answer your questions. Believe it or not, he or she is on your side and is eager to see you do well. And besides, he or she has seen many students stupider than you, so nothing you're gong to ask will set the record for stupidity.
2 Even though you might feel more comfortable going with a friend or partner, the office hour will go better if it's just you and the professor. You'll get in more questions, the discussion will be tailored to what you need most help on, and two-party communication is almost always more productive than committee work. You friend can wait outside for the discussion.
3 If you can't make the official office hours, most professors are willing to make individual, appointments to help you out. If you're lucky enough to land such an accommodation, though, be sure you're 100 percent on time. There's nothing that ticks off a professor more than making him-or herself available for a custom office hour only to find that you don't care enough to come on time. And besides, the professor might leave after ten minutes, which would make your trip a total loss.
4 If you're meeting with the professor to go over a paper or test, or to ask questions about a particular lecture or reading, make sure you bring that paper or test, or your lecture notes or a copy of the article. The professor doesn't remember the comments he or she wrote on your individual piece of work-though he or she will be able to recall them after just a brief glance at your work. And if you have your lecture notes or the article in hand, you and the professor will be able to examine specific points that are confusing to you, rather than just talking in a general way about the contents.
5 Office hours almost always go better if you bring a few specific questions to the meeting. It's almost never good to start a meeting with general comments such as: "I didn't understand what you said about [main topic of the course]"or "I couldn't understand any of your lectures last week." Much better is to come in with two or three conversation-starters, about a specific concept, point, or problem you didn't understand. Keep in mind that in a fifteen-minute office hour (which is how long these things usually last), two or three questions are usually the most you'll have time to discuss.

Building Trust in a Relationship Again
Trust is a learned behavior that we gain from past experiences,     .That is a risk. But you can’t be successful when there’s a lack of trust in a relationship that results from an action where the wrongdoer takes no responsibility to fix the mistake.
Unfortunately, we’ve all been victims of betrayal. Whether we’ve been suffer from, lied to , misled, or cheated on, there are different levels of losing trust. Sometimes people simply can’t trust anymore,     .  It’s understandable, but if you’re willing to build trust in a relationship again, we have some steps you can take to get you there.
having confidence in yourself will help you make better choices because you can see what the best outcome would be for your well-being.
If you’ve been betrayed, you are the victim of your circumstance. But there’s a difference between being a victim and living with a “victim mentality”. At some point in all of our lives, we’ll have our trust tested or violated.
You didn’t lose “everything”. Once trust is lost, what is left? Instead of looking at the situation from this hopeless angle, look at everything you still have and be thankful for all of the good in your life.     instead, it’s a healthy way to work through the experience to allow room for positive growth and forgiveness.

A.Learn to really trust yourself.
B.It is putting confidence in someone.
C.Stop regarding yourself as the victim.
D.Remember that you can expect the best in return.

E. They’ve been too badly hurt and they can’t bear to let it happen again.
F. This knowledge carries over in their attitude toward their future relationships.
G. Seeing the positive side of things doesn’t mean you’re ignoring what happened.

根据短文内容,从下框的A~F选项中选出能概括每一段主题的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该选项涂黑。选项中有一项为多余项。
A. The mistaken belief
B. The need for tolerance
C. Unpunctuality at dinners
D. Punctuality and confidence
E. Self-discipline and punctuality
F. Avoid anxiety by being punctual

There is the belief that, if you arrive at an appointment late, you will be considered important. This is a mistaken view. Being unpunctual, we are not respectful of others ; we are interfering (扰乱)with another man's time. We must realise that keeping appointments or being punctual is a contract that is silently agreed and we are expected to respect this contract. It is only natural that we lose faith, trust and confidence in a person who is tardy(延迟的).

To be punctual one has to have self-discipline(自律), and the lack of it affects others. A school boy or girl is unpunctual because he or she does not have the necessary human virtue of self-discipline. It is also a mark of disrespect for a system or an institution. Unpunctual people seldom realise that their habit cause problems to others. A salesman who is not punctual may not make a sale if he arrives late for an appointment. If one is late for a job interview, it is not likely that he will get the job.

Being punctual, we can avoid anxiety. Imagine the anxiety if you do not want to be considered unpunctual. You will be anxious if you set out for a dinner late. The person who sets out late might be careless in driving. He will ignore traffic rules. A traffic jam, flat tyres, etc. can delay him further. Happy and calm is the man who takes all these possibilities into consideration and arrives at the appointment either early or on time.

Many of those who attend dinners are notorious (声名狼藉的)for unpunctuality. They ignore the appointed time and leave their homes only after the fixed time. They are indifferent to the inconvenience caused to others. If the self-centred guest arrives late, the nine others at the table set for ten will have to wait. The host is put in an unpleasant situation and this man seldom thinks of the inconvenience caused to all -the waiters, the management staff, etc. It is necessary for us to think of others and be considerate to them.

However, we cannot always be intolerant (无法容忍的) of tardiness, for ordinary living requires some tolerance. There can be a busy executive who fights to keep to his schedule. Such a person may be forgiven if he is late, but not those who are deliberately late to create impression.
In modern society, punctuality is a necessary virtue. It is a recognition of the importance of other people.

A. Be well-organised.
B. Close with a Q & A.
C. Don’t be contradictory.
D. Bring it to a specific end.
E. Speak slowly and pause.
F. Drop unnecessary words

Speaking to a group can be difficult, but listening to a bad speech is truly a tiresome task—especially when the speaker is confusing. Don’t want to confuse your audience? Follow these suggestions:
______
When it comes to understanding new information, the human brain needs a little time. First, we hear the words; then, we compare the new information to what we already know. If the two are different, we need to pause and think. But a breathless speaker never stops to let us think about what he or she is saying and risks confusing us. Slow it.
______
Sometimes we all start a sentence one way and then switch directions, which is very difficult to follow. When you confuse your listeners with opposing information, you leave the audience wondering what part of the information is right and what part they should remember. Instead of relying and keeping correcting yourself, work to get the facts clear and straight.
______
Jumping from point to point as it comes to your mind puts the onus (责任)on your listeners to make up for your lack of organisation. And it’s confusing for them to listen, reorganise, and figure out what you’re saying all at once. But going smoothly from one point to the next helps them understand information more easily. You can arrange things from beginning to end, small to large, top to bottom or by some other order. Just be sure to organise.
______
Repeated use of um, ah, like, you know and some other useless noises can drive an audience crazy. It makes the speaker sound uncertain and unprepared, and it can leave listeners so annoyed that they can’t pay attention. Recently I attended a speech that was marked by so many ums that audience members were rolling their eyes. Was anybody grasping the intended message? Um, probably not.
______
Many speakers finish up their speeches with question-and-answer (Q & A) sessions, but some let the Q & A go on without a clear end. The audience is often left confused about whether the meeting is over and when they can get up and leave. Do your listeners a favour by setting a time limit on questions, and close your speech with a specific signal—even if it’s something simple like, “If you have any more questions, you know where to reach me.” Or even more to the point, conclude your speech with “Thanks for your time. ”

A. Improper body language results from nervousness
B. Body movement should command attention
C. Use images with a few words for notes
D. Make a video of the presentation
E. Make quick improvement
F. Try to gesture naturally
Improve the Public Speaking With Body Language
A successful public speaker does not only focus on what to say, but the physical message of presentation. Some call this “body language.” It includes posture, eye contact and gestures - how you move your hands or arms. Charles LeBeau, a professor of public speaking tells about how to do it well.
________. Presenters may not feel at ease because they’re doing a presentation. They may worry about their poor English, and their lack of confidence. They’re trying to figure out the grammar and what to say. They’re having all kinds of difficulty doing presentation, and also controlling their body. They may move from side to side. Besides, it’s not a good idea for a presenter to stand perfectly still. In fact an audience can lose interest in a speaker who does not move.
________. With posture, the typical problem is that they are often moving back and forth, and they’re not facing the audience. They don’t catch the audience’s attention. They are only trying to talk from notes, facing the white board or the screen with slides rather than talking to the audience. Same thing with eye contact. Besides, some experts advise moving your body to a different place for each idea. Stay in place until you finish making that point. Then move to the next place on the stage or in the room.
________. Images should help communicate the point you want to make. Writing a few words with the image on your slide instead of sentences helps you remember that point. If you can figure out what images to use that will communicate your message, because the images will communicate faster and more clearly than words. Then you can look at the audience while speaking.
________. Holding on to notes makes it more difficult for a speaker to have a proper gesture. Mr. LeBeau’s book, “Speaking of Speech,” discusses this.  He says gestures should support the point the speaker is making. For example, when talking about three ideas, hold up three fingers to introduce them. Then hold up one finger while explaining the first idea, two fingers for the second, and so on.
________. It can help you see from a different angle, you may clearly see: “Oh, My! I had no idea that I looked like that! My posture! I’m moving all over the place. Look at my hips. It’s going back and forth and back and forth. And my eye contact! All of these other goofy things that I’m doing without noticing it, or thinking that ‘well, it’s not such a big deal.’  Once you see what you are doing, you may change more quickly. So you can do your presentation again, and work on changing, then you can compare, and see that you can make quick improvement.
An important part of public speaking is practice. When you practice remember these important tips: Be aware of your posture, eye contact, and gestures. Record yourself using a phone, tablet, or camera. Watch yourself and plan what you will do to improve.

A. You can’t always be in control of everything.
B. You can’t accomplish things without support.
C. Good things usually don’t come quickly.
D. Not everyone will support you along the way.
E. Sometimes bad things happen to good people.
F. Death is a part of life.
In the game of life, if it often seems like you’re on the losing end of things, you’re not alone. Life can be one giant confusing problem filled with ups and downs. When you feel like you’re experiencing more downs than ups, sometimes it helps to get a little tough love once in a while. That’s why we put together this list of 5 hard truths that will help you grow.
________
Great accomplishments in our lives normally don’t come easy. And if you think about it, would you have it any other way? There’s a basic psychological principle called instant satisfaction, which means that we expect to get rewards instantly. But sometimes you need to fight the impulses your brain throws at you and trust that the journey you’re on is the right one.
________
In life, there’s no shortage of doubters, haters, and pessimists. Overcoming this hard truth is simple: don’t listen. Choose to stick with your guns, trust your instincts, and forget about people who don’t support your goals and passions.
________
Listen, letting go is hard, especially if you’re a go-getter. But if you want to continue to grow, there are times when you need to give up and let things unfold how they’re meant to be, instead of controlling them. This doesn’t mean your mentality for everything should be “wait and hope”. You can still strive for greatness, but put the work in and then let go with complete faith that the universe will make things right for you. You’ll be amazed at how well it works.
________
Nothing can prepare us for the earth-shattering pain of losing a loved one. The hard truth of life is that it’s a viscous cycle. However, there’s something you can do to make losing someone you love a lot less painful: make them a part of your life right now. Don’t put off making that phone call or paying a random visit to a friend or family member you haven’t seen in a while. Treat every moment with your loved ones as if it’s your last, and you won’t have any regrets.
________
Suffering is part of life. But here’s the cool thing: it makes us stronger. There’s a randomness to how the world works that’s really hard to understand. We see evidence of this every day, and it can really make you question the future of mankind. How you choose to view the world is up to you. Just remember, the truth, however hard, will set you free.

Five Ways to Instantly Rid Yourself of Needless Worry
A while back, I had a great day and everything was going exactly as I wanted.I was meeting tons of new people and everything was amazing.I felt like I've accomplished a lot. Then suddenly, like an unexpected swift jab, someone made a small remark about me.I felt hurt and the worry began flowing in.Over the years, I've developed belief systems that help me get rid of these worries.I want to share these with you.
______ It just isn't possible to get everyone to like you.Trust me, I've tried. This only leads to disappointment on a daily basis, since you can't possibly live up to the entire world's expectations. Here's a new goal for you instead if you really want to get rid of worry and unhappiness from your life.Focus on what you think of yourself.Who cares what that stranger thinks? If you're happy with who you are and you know what weaknesses you should fix then forget about the world.Life is bigger than trying to look awesome; life is about actually being awesome.
______ The first thing I ask myself is, will this negative thought affect me in the future at all? Is it going to decrease my quality of life somehow? More often than not, it's just something I'll soon forget about anyway. So I put myself into the future by a couple of days and imagine myself. In this vision, I realize that I won't be bothered by something so small and I most likely wouldn't even remember it.A lot of times, just the idea of it fleeting away very soon is enough for me to block out these disturbances.
______ When I feel like I'm inadequate based on the need for approval from others, I begin to do some self-reflect on my achievements.I think about how much I've improved in the past year.I've met amazing people, developed active listening skills, and started something I've been thinking about for the past two years.Looking further back, I transformed from a socially awkward kid to a socially lively and confident person. All thanks to mental skills that I consciously yield.I was blessed with true fortunes that others do not have; I was blessed with the gift of self-improvement.
_______ Write anywhere you can, whether it's in a blog, in your journal, or on a post-it note that you can throw dramatically into the ocean.Get those worries out onto paper.Look at it, assess its importance, then tear it, burn it, or throw it into the ocean like I just said. You can then look back at that paper you just destroyed and laugh at how ridiculous you were being.Who cares if that lady looked at you strangely? Who cares that someone may have noticed stains on your new white sneakers? Write all of that, then destroy it.
_____ Finally, just reflect on how short life is; focus on how life is constantly fleeting.Do you really want to spend what little time you have on this beautiful earth worrying about something you won't even remember by next week? Don't be silly, get out there and enjoy life. You've got it pretty good, I'd bet.Don't waste it on needless worry.

Food Safety in the Home

Prevention food poisoning starts with your trip to the supermarket. Pick up your packaged and canned foods first. Buy cans and jars that look perfect. Look for any expiration dates on the labels and never buy outdated food. Likewise, check the “use by” or “sell by” date on dairy products such as cottage cheese, cream cheese, yogurt, and sour cream and pick the ones that will stay fresh longest in your refrigerator.

After shopping, get home as soon as you can. Then put food into the refrigerator or freezer right away. Make sure to set the refrigerator temperature to 40℉ and the freezer to 0℉. Check temperatures with a thermometer. Place raw meat and seafood in containers in the refrigerator to prevent their juices from dripping on other foods. Eggs always go in the refrigerator.

Wash hands and surfaces often. Bacteria can be spread throughout the kitchen and get onto cutting boards and counter tops. To prevent this, wash hands with soap and hot water before and after handling food, and after using the bathroom or handling pets. Wash everything else before and after it touches food. Wash cloths before you use them again for anything else.

Cook food thoroughly until it is done. For example, cooked red meat looks brown inside. Use a food thermometer to check the internal temperature of meat, poultry, casseroles and other food. Use a thermometer with a small-diameter stem. Insert the thermometer 1 to 2 inches into the center of the food and wait 30 seconds to ensure an accurate measurement. Check temperature in several places to be sure the food is evenly heated.

Use clean containers to store and serve food. When a dish is empty or nearly empty, replace with fresh container of food, removing the previous container. Place cold food in containers on some ice. Place the container inside a deep pan filled with ice to keep food cold. Once food is thoroughly heated on stovetop, oven or in microwave oven, keep food hot by using a heat source. Place food in chafing dishes, preheated steam tables, warming trays and / or slow cookers.
