The Internet has opened up a whole new online world for us to meet, chat and go where we’ve never been before.
But just as in face to face communication, there are some rules of behavior that should be followed when on line. Imagine how you’d feel if you were in the other person’s shoes.
For anything you’re about to send, ask yourself,“Would I say this to the person’s face?”If the answer is no,rewrite and reread. .
If someone in the chat room is rude to you, your instinct (本能) is to fire back in the same manner. But try not to do so. If it was caused by a disagreement with another member, try to fix the situation by politely discussing it.Remember to respect the beliefs and opinions of others in the chat room.
Offer advice when asked by newcomers,as they may not be sure what to do or how to communicate. When someone makes a mistake, whether it’s a stupid question or an unnecessarily long answer,be kind about it.If it’s a small mistake, you may not need to say anything.Even if you feel strongly about it,think twice before saying anything.Having good manners yourself doesn’t give you license to correct everyone else. At the same time,if you find you are wrong,be sure to correct yourself and apologize to those that you have offended.
It is not polite to ask others personal questions such as age, sex, and marital status.Unless you know the person very well, and you are both comfortable with sharing personal information, don’t ask such questions.
A.Everyone was new to the network once. |
B.If you do decide to tell someone about a mistake, point it out politely. |
C.It’s natural that there are some people who speak rudely or make mistakes online. |
D.The basic rule is simple: treat others in the same way you would want to be treated. |
E.You should either ignore the person,or use your chat software to block their messages.
F.When you send short messages to a person online, you must say something beautiful to hear.
G.Repeat the process till you feel sure that you’d feel comfortable saying words to a person’s face.

Food Safety in the Home
Prevention food poisoning starts with your trip to the supermarket. Pick up your packaged and canned foods first. Buy cans and jars that look perfect. Look for any expiration dates on the labels and never buy outdated food. Likewise, check the use by or sell by date on dairy products such as cottage cheese, cream cheese, yogurt, and sour cream and pick the ones that will stay fresh longest in your refrigerator.
After shopping, get home as soon as you can. Then put food into the refrigerator or freezer right away. Make sure to set the refrigerator temperature to 40℉ and the freezer to 0℉. Check temperatures with a thermometer. Place raw meat and seafood in containers in the refrigerator to prevent their juices from dripping on other foods. Eggs always go in the refrigerator.
Wash hands and surfaces often. Bacteria can be spread throughout the kitchen and get onto cutting boards and counter tops. To prevent this, wash hands with soap and hot water before and after handling food, and after using the bathroom or handling pets. Wash everything else before and after it touches food. Wash cloths before you use them again for anything else.
Cook food thoroughly until it is done. For example, cooked red meat looks brown inside. Use a food thermometer to check the internal temperature of meat, poultry, casseroles and other food. Use a thermometer with a small-diameter stem. Insert the thermometer 1 to 2 inches into the center of the food and wait 30 seconds to ensure an accurate measurement. Check temperature in several places to be sure the food is evenly heated.
Use clean containers to store and serve food. When a dish is empty or nearly empty, replace with fresh container of food, removing the previous container. Place cold food in containers on some ice. Place the container inside a deep pan filled with ice to keep food cold. Once food is thoroughly heated on stovetop, oven or in microwave oven, keep food hot by using a heat source. Place food in chafing dishes, preheated steam tables, warming trays and / or slow cookers.

Wed better develop our interest in English at the beginning of our study. We may feel good when we can say something simple in English.
So we must make some plans before study. And we should certainly carry out these plans in our study.
Our notes are much thinner than the books so that we can learn them by heart easily and can often review and read them. We may also record our notes on tapes so as to listen to them easily.
Reading a newspaper is the best thing to improve your English. It will help you keep in touch with a lot of subjects in English.
Learn by heart the whole sentences and the phrases that contain the new words so that we may know how to use the words.
If time permits (允许), we may read a mini Chinese-English dictionary carefully from cover to cover, which may help us widen our sight and master (掌握) knowledge in all ways.
A.Read a little from a newspaper every day. |
B.Don’t read books without making notes. |
C.Carefully write an e-mail in English. |
D.It’s easy to develop an interest in English study. |

Tips on How to Think Positive
Your thoughts that consist of mental images and self talk are on automatic mode (状态). When you see, hear, smell or touch something, your mind comes out with its mental representation. You will then find yourself feeling something. To develop positive thinking, become aware of your feelings by checking them from time to time. Ask yourself what you were thinking and what caused the thought. Take note of what you were saying to yourself.
How often do you say things such as “It happens every time” when something doesn’t turn out right? What do you say to yourself when you have made a mistake? Do you say things like, “Stupid of me. Here I go again?” Another tip on how to think positive is to catch yourself saying all these negative things. Demand your inner self to stop. You can say something such as, “Stop it. I am much better than that. The next time I will …”
Your beliefs shape your thoughts. If you believe you can’t do something or if you have conditioned your mind to see unpleasantness in people or situations, you will see and experience them in your life. You can change your limiting and negative beliefs by challenging and questioning them. You can also do so by re-framing things or changing your view.
Your thoughts determine what you focus on. You can force yourself to see and focus on the positive side of things, people and yourself. Develop an attitude of seeing things in a new or different perspective. Instead of thinking and seeing what doesn’t work, look at what works. Rather than seeing something as a problem or difficulty, consider it as an opportunity. Once you see things differently, you will think in a different manner.
Get out in the open and get physically active. Make it a habit to exercise daily. Exercise affects your attitude about life. It is one of the ways to prevent or reduce stress and anxiety and maintain mental health. Practice healthy eating so that you can maintain your weight, prevent sickness and reduce the risk of major health problems. Read and listen to motivational and self-help books or recordings. Spending too much time sitting at home watching television and filling your mind with bad news and reality shows won’t help expand your thinking.
The tradition of birthday parties started in Europe a long time ago. It was feared that evil spirits were particularly attracted to people on their birthdays. Giving gifts brought even more good cheer to keep away from the evil spirits. This is how birthday parties began.
The following are some countries’ birthday traditions:
Canada —Greasing the nose with butter. In Atlantic Canada, the birthday child’s nose is greased for good luck.
China — .The birthday child pays respect to his/her parents and receives a gift of money. Friends and relatives are invited to lunch and noodles are served to wish the birthday child a long life.
England —Fortune telling cakes. Certain symbolic objects are mixed into the birthday cake as it is being prepared.
Italy —Pulling ears. The child’s ears are pulled as many times as how old they are turning.
Japan —New clothes. The birthday child wears entirely new clothes mark the occasion.
New Zealand— .After the birthday cake is lit, the happy birthday song is sung loudly and often out of tune and then the birthday person receives a clap for each year they have been alive and then one for good luck.
The United States —Cake, candles and song.
A.A cake is made, and candles are put on top based on how old the person is. |
B.In China, on a child’s second birthday, family members put many things on the floor around the child. |
C.If your piece of cake has a coin in it, then you will be rich. |
D.To protect them from harm, friends and family would come to stay with the birthday person and bring good thoughts and wishes. |
E. Noodles for lunch.
F. The tradition of birthday parties started a long time ago.
G. Birthday claps.
In the world nothing is more important than health. If people took away our money, houses, cars, or even our clothes, we could still survive. Then how can we keep healthy?
First of all, we should eat healthily. I usually avoid eating food high in fat, like French fries or cookies, which are junk food. I only eat little meat. It helps us build a strong body. Regular exercise is an important part of keeping me healthy. In addition, I think friends are an important part of one’s health. I always feel better when I am with friends than when I am alone. When I am with my friends, I always laugh. Laughing is also an important part of health. It is good to stay with my friends.
By eating properly and exercising regularly, I can keep my body at a proper weight and keep healthy. By spending time with my friends, I can keep my mind as well as my body happy. These things sound easy to do, but not many people can manage them.
A.What’s more, taking exercise is very important. |
B.Some people appear fat because they often eat too much. |
C.I think a strong will is necessary if we want to keep fit. |
D.I eat a lot of vegetables and fresh fruits which are full of vitamins. |
E. There are some people who like staying alone, but they keep healthy.
F. But if our health were taken away, we could surely die.
G. Many studies show that people with few friends often get sick.
____ .Being angry doesn’t really solve much, but what people do when they feel angry is important. The goal is to calm down and try to solve what is bothering you. This is hard for some kids and adults, too. Instead of calming down, some kids might keep getting more and more upset until they explode like a volcano!
_____ .Their anger might be so strong that they lose control of their temper. They may act in ways unacceptable and hurtful. People may say that someone has trouble controlling their temper.__ _
Some kids might get so angry that they scream at their parents, break something , or even worse , hit their brothers or sisters. ___ .However, it’s not OK for a kid to do any of those things .Kids don’t want to act in this way , but sometimes angry feelings can be hard to manage. So what to do?
Well, the good news is that kids don’t just have to keep making the same mistakes over and over again._ __ .Imagine your temper as a puppy inside you that needs some training. The puppy is not bad ---- it will probably turn out a great dog. It just needs to learn some rules because, right now, that puppy is causing some problems to you.
A.In fact, they usually mean that a kid behaves badly when feeling angry. |
B.You don’t want to cause trouble. |
C.Kids should be allowed to express their feelings, even angry ones. |
D.Some kids get angry more often or more easily than some other kids. |
E. You can train you temper.
F. Instead of thinking of the person you’re angry with, think of something else.
G. Everybody gets angry sometimes.
Attitudes Wired in Happy and Successful Brains
I’ve carefully examined happy and successful people from all different professions —actors, scientists, comedians, musicians, etc. They share very similar philosophies. Here are some of the fundamental attitudes and beliefs that contribute to their happiness and success:
◆ ①
This is one of the most commonly recited mottos in self-improvement. Individuals who see their mistakes and failures as a learning experience are much more prone to happiness and success.
When we adopt the belief that “failure is a part of learning,” we become more resilient and courageous in the face of new challenges.
Instead of avoiding situations where we may embarrass ourselves, we embrace these challenges in life, even when we know they can be risky and painful. When we do fail, we don’t see it as the end of the world, but a point to improve upon.
◆ ②
Many people are great at finding problems and being critical about their lives; however, they do this without ever suggesting a possible solution or alternative to their situation.
They complain about this and that, but they never take an active role to actually improve these things. They focus on problems not to learn from them or fix them, but to make excuses for why their lives are miserable and unpleasant.
I believe acknowledging problems in life is important. I don’t recommend that we ignore things in our life that disturb us or make us unhappy. However, it’s also important to think of ways we can actually respond to these problems and change our circumstances.
Ruminating over problems in our life without a plan to take action is not only a waste of time, but it makes us even more sad and depressed. If you’re going to be critical about something in your life, focus on the ways you can actually make a difference.
◆ ③
Happy and successful people are incredibly grateful for their lives and everything they have: their relationships, their home, their job, their possessions, their talents, their achievements, etc.
Although successful people are often thought of as always hungry and striving – always trying to improve things, achieve their goals, and make things better – this inner drive doesn’t take away from the fact they are very happy and content with their lives.
Gratitude is an irreplaceable characteristic of true happiness and success. Even if we achieve great things in life, without gratitude we often find ourselves empty and discontent. Make sure you take the time to reflect on how lucky you are as a person (I believe everyone can find something to be grateful for).
◆ ④
Happy and successful individuals know that we can learn a lot from other happy and successful individuals. Having peopled to look up to is a great resource for learning the beliefs and habits that contribute to other people’s success, and then modeling those beliefs and habits in our own lives.
If you want to improve a particular area of your life, then find a couple of people who already excel in that area of life. Study them. Ask them questions. Have them show you their technique and share their stories.
The more willing you are to learn from others, the more successful you will be. Talking and listening to others is one of the best ways to get more perspective into what you want to improve in life — and how you can do it.

Who would have thought to put a kite and a surfboard together? It may seem like an impractical idea, but a man named Cory Roeseler from Oregon believed that it would work, and introduced the idea in the 1980s. Over the next few years, other designers contributed to the style and shape of the board, resulting in a mixture of kiting and surfing, which is what kite surfing is today.
The power kite pulls a small board that is fastened to the surfer’s feet, and there is a harness (安全带) that goes around the surfer’s waist to make sure that the surfer stays connected to the board. The wind determines which direction would be easiest for the surfer to go in.Once the kite surfer is able to control the board and the kite, they can learn many tricks, such as turning, jumping, and so on.
This sport can sometimes be potentially dangerous to other kite surfers, beachgoers, and the kite surfers themselves if they don’t know how the proper procedure is done. They can learn the techniques safely without putting themselves and others in danger.A good course should include basic operations, kite set-up, maintenance (维修) of equipment, weather planning, and emergency landings. These courses are available in almost all areas where kite surfing is popular.
Some popular destinations for kite surfing enthusiasts are South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia, but wherever there is wind, there will be kite surfers. You might even be able to see kite surfers on the beach closest you!
A.Kite surfing has become a mainstream sport. |
B.Kite surfing is a difficult and dangerous sport. |
C.The way it works is an application of simple physics. |
D.The first design was with water skis powered by a kite. |
E.It is also known as kite boarding, and in some European countries as fly surfing.
F.Therefore, it is highly recommended that people who want to participate in this sport attend a
course.
G.With the combination of the wind and the ocean, some kite surfers can go at top speeds while
flying over 20 feet in the air.
信息匹配(共1小题)
There is distinction between reading for information and reading for understanding. .
The first sense is the one in which we read newspapers, magazines, or anything else. Such materials may increase our store of information, but they cannot improve our understanding. And clearly we don’t have any difficulty in gaining the new information, for our understanding was equal to them before we started.Otherwise, we would have felt the shock of puzzlement.
The second sense is the one in which we read something that at first we do not completely understand. Here the thing to be read is at the first sight better or higher than the reader. The writer is communicating something that can increase the reader’s understanding. Otherwise one person could never learn from another. Here “learning” means understanding more, not remembering more information.
What are the conditions in this kind of reading? First, there is inequality in understanding. Besides, his book must convey something he possesses and his potential readers lack.Second, the reader must be able to overcome this inequality in some degree. And he should always try to reach the same level of understanding with the writer. If the equality is approached, success of communication is achieved.
It is the least demanding and requires the least amount of effort.Everyone who knows how to read can read for entertainment if he wants to.In fact, any book that can be read for understanding or information can probably be read for entertainment as well.
A.Thus, we can employ the word “reading” in two distinct senses. |
B.Such communication between unequals must be possible. |
C.We can get access to the content of those materials easily. |
D.The writer must be “superior” to the reader in understanding. |
E.The writer should have a better communicating skill.
F.Besides gaining information and understanding, there’s another goal of reading—entertainment.
G.Reading for entertainment is capable of increasing our understanding for information.
根据短文内容,从下面的A~F选项中选出能概括每一段主题的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该选项涂黑。选项中有一项为多余选项。
A. use the Internet safely
B. make up emergency plan
C. stay away from strangers
D. be aware of stranger danger
E. turn to trusted adult for help
F. keep family information in mind
Everyone wants their children to be safe, but many parents may wonder if they are doing all they can to ensure their child’s safety. By providing your children with some basic knowledge and information, you can equip them for possible future emergencies. Giving your children basic lessons in safety provides them with the tools they need to deal with safety problems in the future.
Your child should know his full name and address, as well as his home telephone number. Children who are school-aged should be able to remember this information easily. While you should advise your child never to share this information with a stranger, it can be useful if he is ever separated from you and needs to tell the police who he is and to whom he belongs.
Teach your child that he should never speak to anyone he doesn’t know, Unless you are near him. Do not scare him into believing that every adult he meets out is to hurt him. Simply warn him that he should be careful and never go anywhere or share personal information with an adult he doesn’t know.
If your family faces an emergency such as a natural disaster, you need a plan to organizing your efforts. You should practice this plan with your child for several situation. For example, you need to determine where your family reunite if some members are away from home during an emergency, and where inside your home you will go if a disaster strikes.
If your child is particularly shy, he may be afraid of all adults who aren’t known to him. Unfortunately, this can extend to helpful adults, such as doctors, police officers and fire fighters. Teach your child about the people who may help him in an emergency, and help him be comfortable around those people so that he will ask for help if he needs it.
If you allow your child to use the Internet, teach him to use safely. Do not allow him go into chat rooms or use other online forums to discuss personal information with strangers. If he has a social networking site page, such as Facebook or MySpace, make sure he only adds real friends lists, not strangers. Never let him meet anyone in person if he only met them online.
