You should watch where your weight accumulates. You can use the waist to hip ratio to find if there is too much fat around the middle.Belly fat is especially dangerous because it release free fatty acids directly to the liver, virtually flooding it with fat.
If a particular food is important to you, eat it, but work it off.You should try to learn the art of compromise.
At the same time.the three-for-one is relatively simple to use.Fat grams and calories are listed on almost all boxed, canned or packaged foods —— you have only to read the label and follow the rule.A five-year-old patient of mine can do this.
Drinking water is basic, and drinking enough of it is necessary.Patients are sometimes surprised that basic things work when they do them consistently.
Consume antioxidant foods. They protect the cholesterol(胆固醇), from oxidative damage, which helps prevent damage to blood…vessel walls.
A.More than nine years ago I was 70 pounds overweight and wore a very big dress.I had tried different diets and lost weight only to gain it back. Finally a simple “three-for-one’’ fat rule worked for me:consuming no more than three grams of fat for every 100 calories per serving.Following the rule and eating only foods that contain less than 30 percent fat, I spent eight months getting down to a size seven, and I’ve kept the weight off for nine years. |
B.And for foods that aren’t packaged, you rely on what we already know about them.Red meat, as well as dishes made or served with butter, gravy, cream sauce or cheese, are almost never less than 30 percent fat——so you just don’t eat them.On the other hand, some non-packed foods——all fruits and vegetables except avocadoes and olives——always pass the test.So do most fish, but not when fried. |
C.I like vegetables, which are rich in vitamins. Most foods containing vitamins C and E(such as sweet potatoes, tomatoes, spinach and broccoli)are low in calories and are known as antioxidants(抗氧化物质).They can help reduce the possibility to develop hardening the arteries(动脉). |
D.I gain weight around the belly—what we call abdominal obesity, the worst kind. The tendency seems to be hereditary(遗传的), and it’s common among men. This problem increases the risk of a stroke or heart attack.A guide I use in estimating belly fat is the waist-to-hip ratio or WHR.To find yours, divide the circumference(周围)of you waist by the circumference of you hips.Women with ratios above 0.8 and men with ratios above 1.0 are at increased health risk. |
E.My ways of keeping healthy are very simple, and they are among our everyday activities:eating healthy food and doing exercise. In addition, I manage to do those basic things, such as drinking water, sleeping well and eating less fat.Sometimes I do some of the other things I used to do in my life like walking for half an hour a day.
F.Although I've put on ten pounds.I'm healthy and in good shape.I eat food that’s good for me…but I work off Susan’s homemade brownies(巧克力蛋糕), for example. To offset these extra calories, I walk for an hour or more, three times a week…often with Susan. We’re both busy and this is one way we have some quiet time together.Equally important, it permits me to practice dieting fine art of compromise.

A.Make a list of obstacles and benefits of achieving your goal
B.Enlist the help of others
C.Learn what you need to learn
D.Visualize yourself having achieved each of your goals
E.Get organized and reward yourself each step of the way
F.Put your goals in writing
The goals that guide us
“Not all who wander are lost,” they say, but for the great majority of us, having a road map for the future is a key element to well-being and success, however we choose to define it.This means setting goals for ourselves, and finding ways to achieve them.If you’re a wanderer, it might be time to realize the great significance of setting goals.
It’s simply a fact: when people have goals to guide them, they are happier and achieve more than they would without having them. It’s a brain thing.Achieving a goal you’ve set produces a neurotransmitter (神经传递素) responsible for feelings of pleasure, which will then activate neural circuitry that makes you eager to pursue new challenges.
Of course, a thousand mile journey starts with the first small step. And whether we’re starting on the long journey of a mid-life career switch or the walk to the bedroom to finally organize that closet, it can be hard to gather up the motivation to make that initial step. While setting goals is in itself motivating, sometimes it’s just not enough. Here are some tried-and-true ways you can begin to move toward achieving your goals.
1.
The act of writing down what you are going to do is a strong motivator.Writing down goals prevents you from leaving your goals vague.Be specific.Use action verbs.Let your goals have measurable outcomes.Specify completion dates. Also record what your reward will be for achieving the goal.Make a contract with yourself, then read it each morning and night. This will help you to be more committed to your goal as each day passes. And while you’ve got the pen in your hand...
2.
Think of everything that might stand in your way. Then decide what you can do about each obstacle.Design a plan to reduce the influence of each obstacle and increase the chances that you will be successful in reaching your goal.Knowing exactly what you will gain from reaching your goal is a strong motivator.Keeping my checkbook balanced will give me more spending money on the weekends.Walking a mile every morning will help me stay focused at work.
3.
If information or skill is keeping you from achieving your goals, determine ways to fill in the gaps, and build this into your action plan.Be willing to study and work hard to reach your goals.Think about how much time and effort will be required, and ask yourself whether you are really willing and able to do what is necessary. It is better to adjust your goals or your timetable than to proceed with a plan that is unrealistic.
4.
Find someone, a coworker or friend, with whom you share a common goal.Get someone to go to the gym with you, or to quit smoking with you, or to share healthy meals with you.A partner can help you stay committed and motivated.Look for role models, people who have already achieved the goals you seek to reach.Ask them for advice and suggestions.Find how they got where they are, and incorporate what you learn into your plan.
5.
The more real you can make your visualization, the better.Find a quiet place, visualize, and write down your experiences afterward.Go through magazines and cut out pictures that represent your goal, then put them around the house.Provide constant reminders to yourself about what you’re working towards.Describe your ideal life in the future.Write a few paragraphs describing what you have accomplished, and how your life is better as a result.Use the present tense as if it is happening right here, right now. This is another way of making your vision real.

If your complaint is immediate, suppose you got the wrong order at a restaurant, make a polite but firm request to see the manager. When the manager comes, ask his or her name. And then state your problem and what you expect to have done about it.
Be polite!
But also be firm in making your complaint.
This doesn’t mean to put on airs and say “do you know who I am?” What it means is that people are often treated the way they expect to be treated. If you act like someone who expects a fair request to be granted, chances are that it will be granted .
You are speaking to a voice coming from someone you cannot see.So you can’t tell how the person on the line is reacting. It is easy for that person to give you the run-around.
If your complaint doesn’t require an immediate response, it often helps to complain by letter. If you have an appliance that doesn’t work, send a letter to the store that sold it.Be business-like and stick to the point.Don’t spend a paragraph on how your uncle John tried to fix the problem and couldn’t.
A.Shouting or acting rude will get you nowhere. |
B.Complaining in person or by letter is generally more effective. |
C.The worst way to complain is over the telephone. |

This worry in your mind can make your body feel bad. You may feel angry, frustrated, scared, or afraid --- which can give you a stomachache or a headache.
Good or normal stress might happen when you are called to answer a question in class or when you have to give a speech. This kind of stress can help you to get things better done.

That means making good decision about how to spend your time. If you are only dealing with school stuff and have no time to play, you can get stressed. Make sure you keep your SELF in mind: Sleep, Exercise, Leisure and Food. A. How inner beliefs can help B. How to develop positive habits C. Improve your life D. You can do it E. Action plan F. Why are habits so important |
The single most important factor that contributes to success is what you do every single day. It is as simple as that. Your habits will determine whether you are successful or not. If you have strong and healthy positive habits, it does not matter whether or not you fail today because you are guaranteed to succeed in the long run.
________
Because you repeat the same actions and the same behaviors every single day, a single positive action will not change your life, but the same action repeated 1,000 times will have a significant impact on your life. For example, if you go to the gym one time, you won't see a big difference in your life. However, if you go to the gym 1,000 times over a five year period, you will see a big difference in your body. The same principle applies to finance, health, relationships, work, career, and school. Simple positive actions repeated every single day will have a great impact on your life in the long run.
________
There's nothing easier than developing positive habits. You simply have to do every single day the action you want to make a habit. If you want to develop the habit of running, run almost every day. If you want to develop the habit of eating healthy, eat healthy every day. If you want to develop the habit of reading, read every day. Habits are created by repetition. The more you do an action, the easier it becomes in the long run.
________
If you want to be successful in changing your habits, you should think about changing your inner beliefs about your habits. For example, your old belief was: "I love cigarette because it makes me feel good and relaxed. I need cigarette to be happy and relaxed." If you keep this belief, you won't be able to keep your resolution to stop smoking for very long. Instead, you should adopt this new belief: "I love yoga because it makes me feel good and relaxed. Cigarette is poisonous and destroys my body. Yoga makes me happy." You should analyze your beliefs and make sure they won't stop you from changing your habits. The same is true when you try to form positive habits. If you want to start eating healthy food, here are some positive beliefs you should start thinking about: "Healthy food is very good for my health. It gives me a lot of energy and I feel very good."
________
It's now time for you to develop positive habits in your life and avoid your negative habits. Write down 3 positive habits that you would like to develop and 3 negative habits that you would like to get rid of. For each positive habit, write down exactly what actions you're going to take every single day in order to develop the new habit. For each negative habit, write down exactly what actions you're not going to take in the next weeks. Here are some positive habits that will lead to success: exercise, healthy food, reading, saving, studying, healthy relationships, hard work, etc... Here are some negative habits to get rid of: gambling, drug and alcohol abuse, overeating, shyness, etc..
________
Everybody can change. All it takes is courage and commitment. Decide right now to improve your life by changing your habits. Take action right now! Don't be afraid. Yes, you will probably make mistakes along the way. But never forget that success is guaranteed for you if you have positive habits in your life. If you refuse to quit, success will be yours
