In the kitchen of my mother's houses there has always been a wooden stand with a small notepad and a hole for a pencil.

When I first got an e-mail account ten years ago, I received communications only from family, friends, and colleagues. This is a true story about a boy who, the world might say, was a terrible underachiever. While in the eighth grade, he failed subjects repeatedly. High school wasn’t much better; he flunked Latin, algebra, English, and received a grade of zero in physics. When my brother and I were young, my mom would take us on Transportation Days.
