Terry was regretful to have forgotten to bring along __40__ and had to wait __41__ in a low mood. Just then he heard light, hesitant __42__ on his door that were clearly audible (听到) in the __43__ night.
“Who’s it?” he wondered, since Terry was a __44__ to this city. And this was the moment he especially hated to be __45__, so he went to the door and opened it __46__. At the door was a little girl, shyly asking, “Sir, do you have candles? I’m your neighbor. ”“No,” answered Terry in anger and shut the door __47__.“What a nuisance!” He complained over it with his wife. “No sooner had we settled down than the neighbor came to __48__ things.”
After a while, the door was knocked again. He opened it and found the same girl outside. __49__ this time she was __50__ two candles, saying, “My grandma told me the new neighbor downstairs might need candles. She __51__ me here to give you these.” Terry was very __52__ by what he saw.
At that moment he suddenly realized what caused his __53__ in life. It was his __54__ and harshness (刻薄) with other people. The person who had cheated him in life was __55__ nobody else but himself, for his eyes had been blurred (蒙蔽) by his unsympathetic mind.

It was an unforgettable experience. By the time we made it to the 36 , my hands were wet. I 37 he would remember everything I had taught him over and over again. 38 he stopped and asked, “So, Mom, how do you like my 39 ?”
I must admit that his performance was 40 . He had both hands on the wheel. His eyes never left the highway and his handling was far better than I’d ever imagined it would be, 41 it still needed improving.
Several 42 ago, I was teaching him to ride his bike. We started 43 . The third grade primary school student was 44 that his training wheels were taken off. Of course it was a long evening. He 45 several times but always got up quickly and kept 46 until he mastered riding.
Viewing the 47 , I guess it really wasn’t about him driving. It was about him 48 ---gaining more and more independence; not 49 me so much anymore.
He will be a(n) 50 in high school this fall. This will truly be a 51 year for both of us. He’s ready to have one of the best years of his young life and I will have (a) complete mental 52 . For this is probably the last year that my baby will be at home on a(n) 53 basis.
After this school year, he’ll go to college and then into the real world. Things all happen so 54 .
Now I see the time has just arrived for him to perform what he’s learned.
So, I guess you could say his driving lessons are lessons for me too. Yes, I’m being 55 that it’s his time to drive through life’s green lights and move towards his future as smoothly and skillfully as possible.

My mother used to ask me what is the most important part of the body. Through the years I would 36 the correct answer. Wherever in the world you’re reading this right now, you will be aware of just how mixed modern society has become in terms of race. Within the UK, mixed-raced children are the largest 1 ethnic minority. Bringing home a partner of a different 2 to yourself is no longer viewed as, “strange” or “different” in a lot of families. When Joseph brought home Hari, the 3 that she was of Indian parentage was never even talked about — she made him happy. They made each other happy. And that was all that 4 .
But the reason why they were together for 11 years before they got 5 is that Hari was afraid of telling her 6 about the person that she’d fallen in love with. She was afraid of the consequences it would 7 for her younger sisters. Would they be packed off to India? Would they end up in arranged 8 they may not want? At 22 years old, when she first fell in love with him — it was a large burden to 9 .
But she loved him, and 10 they moved in together… and then bought a house by the Brighton coast, where they have 11 for almost 8 years. All the while her parents didn’t know. Her sisters did, and they too loved Joseph — they 12 him as the brother they’d never had.
But after nine years together, she finally had to tell her father (her mother 13 away a few years ago). We were on tenderhooks(惶恐不安)the weekend she went up North to tell him.
It was emotional and as a family we were worried. Hari had been 14 of our family for so long, we felt for her. We knew how 15 it would be. She loved her father, but knew this would hurt him, who was a very traditional Sikh man.

When I was in the final year of my graduation studies, I visited a friend’s home for lunch. The moment I reached his house, I found the staircases of his building were not so good and his home was not painted very well. I couldn’t 36 in words but it was not even the type of house in which a typical middle-class Indian family lives.
The greatest things I did find there were his parents. We sat on the ground for lunch because they didn’t have a dining 37 . His mother served us very delicious food, smiled throughout and showed care for the 38 lunch session. I can never forget that.
His father worked as a normal 39 and I wondered if he earned enough money to support their two sons. While we were taking lunch, his father returned home to meet us. When he entered their home, his hands were dark black and his clothes were very dirty. My friend had no 40 about his father and made the introductions.
As soon as his father came in, my friend asked me if I wanted “Papad”(a typical Indian food)to eat. Before I could say anything, the father very gently and kindly 41 it for me, after going through many staircases even though he was looking 42 .
Today, my friend is a leader in a big company. He is able to 43 high rent in Hyderabad and have a new beautiful home. Not only that, he helped his brother 44 in his studies and is still helping.
What I want to say is that I consider 45 as richness in a poor family. The amount of money you make won’t 46 other’s hearts; the only way is with love and kindness.
