Even though it was only October,my students were already whispering about Christmas plans. With each passing day everyone became more_36__ waiting for the final school bell. Upon its__37__  everyone would run for their coats and go home, everyone except David.

He__43__ just simply smile and ask what else he could do,then thank me for letting him stay and slowly__44__ home.
Weeks passed and the__45__ over the coming Christmas grew into restlessness until the last day of__46__ before the holiday break. I smiled in__47__ as the last of them hurried out of the door. Turning around I saw David__48__ standing by my desk.
“I have something for you,”he said and__49__ from behind his back a small box.__50__  it to me,he said anxiously,“Open it.” I took the box from him, thanked him and slowly unwrapped it. I lifted the lid and to my__51__ I saw nothing. I looked at David’s smiling face and back into the box and said,“The box is nice,David, but it’s__52__.”
“Oh,no. It isn’t.” said David. “It’s full of love. My mum told me before she died that love was something you couldn’t see or touch unless you know it’s there.”
Tears filled my eyes___53__I looked at the proud dirty face that I had rarely given__54__ to. After that Christmas,David and I became good friends and I never forgot the meaning__55__the little empty box set on my desk.

Years ago I had the opportunity to meet a girl who reinforced my understanding of the power of belief. She was   36   the most powerful person I had ever met. I met Chris for the first time while taking the Dale Carnegie   37  in California.
Our class had already been going for quite some time when   38  , supported by metal crutches(拐杖),   39    herself in. Chris had cerebral palsy(大脑性麻痹). She had many   40  in communicating with others. This was not due to   41   of desire, but because most of her twenty-one years of life she had been kept in a room with no more than Elvis records and tapes to   42   her. No one had taken the time to assist her in developing the ability to   43  . It was Bonnie, her current caretaker, who   44   there was much more to Chris than anyone else gave her credit for.

For most of her   47  nobody would listen to her. The only way she knew to get someone to   48   was through temper outbursts. It was 4 o'clock in the morning, when I received the phone call.
“This is the emergency room calling and your son was just   36  in with severe burns on his face, neck and arms. We have called for a(n)  37  and are going to fly him to the burn unit in Seattle.” Seattle was 350 miles from his college, so we knew immediately this was  38  . After he  45  from the treatments, the doctors told him they would not do plastic surgery(整容)for 6 months  46  it takes that long for the skin to stop shrinking and wrinkling. So, he had to return to college with scars typical of severe burns.
When I was a child, my mother told my sister, who had a 10-inch very  47  scar on her arm, “Nancy, if you ignore the scar, other people will ignore it. It does not mean they will not   48  it, but it means it will not matter to them if it doesn’t matter to you.”
I   49   this wisdom on to my son. He took my advice to  50   and returned to school with his head held high--glad he was alive.

And we spend a lot of time thinking that if only we looked differently, or dressed differently, people would like us better.
But you see, people will only judge you by your looks, or your clothes, if you are judging yourself by these same  54  standards. Put your imperfections out of your mind and concentrate on what you value  55   yourself, and your beauty will shine through.
