When I was a teenager, my dad did everything he could to advise me against becoming a brewer(酿酒人). He’d 36 his life brewing beer for local breweries only to make a living, 37 were his father and grandfather before him. He didn’t want me 38 near a vat (酿酒用的桶)of beer.
So I did as he asked. I got good 39 , went to Harvard and in 1971 was accepted into a graduate program there that 40 me to study law and business at the same time.
In my second year of grade school, I began to realize that I’d 41 done anything but go to school. So, at 24 I decided to drop out. 42 , my parents didn’t think this was a great idea. But I felt strongly that you can’t 43 till you’re 65 to do what you want in life.
I packed my stuff into a bus and headed to Colorado to become an instructor at Outward Bound. Three years later, I was ready to go back to 44 . I finished Harvard and got a highly paid job at the Boston Consulting Group. Still, after working there five years, I 45 . Is this what I want to be doing when I’m 50? At that time, Americans paid 46 money of beer in low quality. Why not make good beer for 47 ? I thought.
I decided to give up my job to become 48 . When I told Dad, he was 49 , but in the end he 50 me. I called my beer Samuel Adams, 51 the brewer and patriot who helped to start the Boston Tea party. 52 I sold the beer direct to beer drinkers to get 53 out. Six weeks later, at the Great American Beer Festival, Samuel Adams Boston Lager won the top prize for American beer. In the end I was destined to be a brewer. My 54 to the young is simple: Life is very 55 , so don’t rush to make decisions. Life doesn’t let you plan.

When my mom came home from the hospital with twins, I was excited at the very beginning. I couldn’t 36 to play with them and be the best big sister ever.
Everyone was coming over to our house to hold the babies and 37 presents to the babies and talk nonstop how 38 the babies were. Then they’d pull out their cameras, and just 39 I was about to say “cheese”, they’d run over to my perfectly perfect little brothers and take 40 of them. At that time I was thinking, “Why can’t I be little again so I can be the one getting all the 41 ?”
When my aunt Camille got 42 , my mom spent forever finding the perfect clothes for them. On the day of the 43 , my twin brothers had the cutest and prettiest clothes. And then there was me, just sitting and watching in my 44 dress.
After the ceremony, all I 45 was how sweet and lovely the twins were.
I definitely 46 that they were wonderful, but I couldn’t help feeling 47 and invisible (看不见的).
There was a big 48 after the wedding. Aunt Camille and her nice new 49 had the first dance, and then everyone started 50 like crazy including me. I 51 my uncomfortable dress shoes, and I danced and danced and danced! It 52 one of the most fun times I’ve had in my entire life.
The very 53 part was when my aunt and I took my twin brothers by the hands and 54 them some dance moves. Teaching them was such a cool thing. I 55 then what a huge waste of time feeling jealous is when you can kick off your shoes and enjoy life!

It was one of those cold winter nights in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco . I was driving an eyesore(丑陋的东西)that could only be 36 as a “ car ” by someone who was either a shameless liar or a good friend .

My friend wanted to 41 others. He stood in the cold with a sign “If you’re okay with a motorcycle, I will 42 you to your house.” And then I saw him take one gentleman home, all the way to a faraway place!
Then next day I drove to 43 my car with gas. There is a lack (缺乏) of 44 now after the quake and many gasoline stations are either closed or have very 45 lines. I got 46 , since I was behind 15 cars. Finally, when it was my 47 , the man smiled and said, “ 48 this bad situation after the quake , we are only giving $30 worth gas to each person. Is that all right?” “ 49 . I’m just glad that we are all able to 50 with each other .” I said. His smile gave me so much comfort.
I saw a man at the evacuation (疏散) center burst into 51 when people brought food to him. It was the first time in three days that food was brought to their center. Tom was a middle-aged leather trader whose repeated failure in career
made him a depressed man, often complaining that others had been playing tricks on him. One day he told his wife he was so 16 with the city that he had to leave.
So his family moved to 17 city. It was in the evening of aweekend when Tom and his wife were busy 18 up their new home
19 the light suddenly went out. So they had to 20 work. Tom was regretful to have forgotten bringing along candles and had to wait 21 in a low mood. Just then he heard slight, hesitant knocks on his door that sounded clear in the 22 night.
“Who’s it?” he wondered, since Tom had no 23 in the new city.
And this was the moment he especially disliked being disturbed. 24 , he went reluctantly to the door and opened it impatiently. At the door was a little girl, shyly asking, “Sir, do you have 25 ? I’m your neighbor.” “No,” answered Tom in anger and shut the door violently. “What a nuisance!” he complained over it with his wife. “No sooner had we settled down 26 the neighbor came to 27 things.” After a while, the door was knocked 28 . He opened it and found the same girl outside. But this time she was holding two candles, saying, “My grandma told me the new neighbor downstairs might need candles. She 29 me here to give you these.” Tom was very 30 by what he saw. When he became fully aware, he said, “Thank you and your 31 . God bless you!”
At that moment he suddenly realized what caused his 32 in life. It
