After 21 years of marriage,my wife wanted me to take another woman,my widowed mother, out to dinner and a movie.Due to the 31 of my work and my three children,I visited her only 32 .That night I called inviting her to go out.Though a bit 33 ,she accepted it happily.
That Friday after work,I drove over to 34 her up.On reaching her house,I noticed that she seemed to be nervous about our 35 .Wearing the dress she had worn to 36 her last wedding anniversary, she smiled like an angel.
We went to a 37 that, although not elegant, was very comfortable. After we sat down,I 38 my eyes and saw Mom sitting there staring at me.A smile was on her lips.“I used to have to 39 the menu when you were smal1,”she said.“Then it’s time you relaxed and let me return the 40 ,”I responded.During the dinner,we had such a 41 conversation-all about each other’s life—that we 42 the movie. When back home, she said, “Pity we didn’t see the film.Yet I’ll go out with you again, but only if you let me 43 you.” I agreed.
A few days later,Mother died of a massive heart attack. It 44 so suddenly that I had no 45 to do anything for her.some time later,I 46 an envelope of a copy of a restaurant receipt from where mother and I had 47 .An attached note said,“I paid this 48 in advance.I wasn‘t sure whether I could be there;but nevertheless,I paid for two—one for you and the other for your wife. You’ll never know 49 that night meant for me.I love you, son.”
At that moment.I understood the importance of giving our loved ones the time they 50 because these things can never be put off till “some other time”.

I couldn’t believe he said the object was white, 31 it was obviously black! Another 32 started between my classmate and me, this time about the 33 of the object.
The teacher told me to go stand where the boy was standing and told him to come stand where I had been. We changed 34 and now she asked me what the color of the object was. I 35 answer, “White.” It was an object with two 36 colored sides, and from his side it was white. 37 from my side was it black.

December 24 arrived along with a heavy snow. It was my first Christmas Eve without my mother, and the day’s usual 36 had disappeared.

When I come across a good article in reading newspapers, I often want to cut and keep it.But just as I am about to do so, I find the article on the 36 side is as much interesting. It may be a discussion of the way to 37 in good health, or 38 about how to behave and conduct oneself in society. If I cut the front article, the opposite one is likely to 39 damage, leaving out half of it or keeping the text 40 the title. Therefore, the scissors would 41 before they start, 42 halfway done when I find out the 43 result.
Sometimes two things are to be done at the same time, both worth your 44 .You can only take up one of them, the other has to wait or be 45 up.
But you know the future is unpredictable—the changed situation may not allow you to do what is left 46 .Thus you are 47 in a difficult position and feel sad.How 48 that nice chances and brilliant ideas should gather around all at once? It may happen that your life 49 greatly on your preference of one choice to the other.
In fact that is what 50 is like: we are often 51 with the two opposite sides of a thing which are both desirable like a newspaper cutting. It often occurs that your attention is drawn to one thing only 52 we get into another. The 53 may be more important than the latter and give rise to divided mind.I 54 remember a philosopher's remarks: "When one door shuts, another opens in life." I moved to a new neighborhood two months ago. In the house with a large 21 across the road lived a taxi driver, a single parent with two school-age children. At the end of the day, he would 22 his taxi on the road. I 23 why he did not park it in the garage.
Then one day I learnt that he had another car in his garage. In the afternoon he would come home 24 work, leave his taxi and go out for his 25 affairs in his other car, not in his taxi. I felt it was 26 .
I was curious to see his personal car but did not make it until I 27 to be outside one evening two weeks 28 ,when the garage door was 29 and he drove out in his “own” car: a Rolls-Royce(劳斯莱斯)! Last weekend, my kids along with few other kids from the neighborhood volunteered to help me wash my car. My 10-year-old daughter came up with the idea of 36 other people’s cars as well. It was pretty 37 outside and I had no plans to 38 being in the bright sun. She 39 wanted to give lemonade(柠檬汽水)to passers-by for free. I had seen little kids 40 and sell fresh lemonade for a small cost but not free. Although I felt 41 , I decided to help her.
42 she asked me, “What if we 43 this a smile car wash?” I couldn’t hold back my tears and 44 her and the other kids to go outside the house and come up with 45 ideas. While I kept myself busy in drying the car, the gang walked up to me with a(n) 46 with beautiful images of smiles. They had “Free Car Wash” written on it and the 47 of their exercise was “smile”. All that seemed 49 and came right from their heart. Nothing seemed to 50 to them: their playtime, the heat outside—they just wanted to 51 others and do something nice in the community!
I helped them make some fresh lemonade and brought out some additional 52 to help clean cars. Passers-by were 53 and one even shouted back to them saying “God Bless You, my kids…” One of them even tried giving them 5 dollars, which they refused. A pretty heartwarming 54 !

My husband Sid and I were never able to have children. I had always wanted a family and that feeling 36 after his death. He was all I had. When he 37 , I felt like I had lost my entire family. I never 38 I would finally get the family I had always wished for. A few years later I met Tom. When we married, I 39 got four grown children and eight grandchildren.
I was 40 about my first meeting with his children. My worries melted away when I realized that they 41 me and were more than willing to bring me into their family. And when his daughters 42 me if their children could call me “Mimi,” I was excited, Tom was divorced, and 43 I was also concerned about the 44 that the children already had two grandmothers. Time is very important in our lives. It organizes our everyday moments. However, time never had any importance in my life until I 16 a watch from my father, which organized my life and made me more responsible. It’s round in the center with two silver bands(带) that 17 around my wrist and all of it is made of silver.
I received this 18 on a gray – sky day. I had to go to the airport at 9:00 am to 19 up my Uncle Ali and take him to my father’s house. 20 , I was late because I was 21 out with my friends. Later on that day, around 11:00 am, I 22 my uncle, but I was very late for him. He had 23 the airport and taken a taxi to my father’s house.
I got to my father’s house at 2:00 pm that day and felt ashamed of myself at that moment. After I said hi to my 24 father and tired uncle, my father asked me to sit next to him and handed me this watch as a gift from him. Then he said, “Peter, did you have 25 with your friends today?” I answered, “Yes, father, and 26 apologized for not meeting my Uncle Ali.” He said, “What you 27 was not very nice and you should be sorry for your action.” I was ashamed and said, “Father, I’ll never do it again . I promise.” He said, “I hope today you learned something important, and this watch will be a 28 for you.” He told me to take this watch and use it as an organizer of my 29 .
I learned a very important lesson from my father: to respect time and never to be late to get someone. This watch is 30 to me, not because of its price, but because of the lesson that I learned from it.

One day, when I was in high school, I saw a kid named Kyle from my class walking home from school with all his books, I thought to myself, “__26___ would anyone bring home all his books for the weekend? My 30 went out to him. So, I ran over to him. 31 I handed him his glasses, he looked at me and said, “Hey, thanks!”

We all have storms through our lives. But we have no right to make everyone else suffer with our own 31 .
The carpenter I 32 to help me restore an old farmhouse had just finished a(n) 33 first day on the job. A flat tire made him lose an hour of work, his electric saw quit, and now his truck 34 to start.
While I drove him home, he sat in stony 35 .

When opening the door, he underwent a(n) 38 transformation. His tanned face was wreathed in smiles, and he 39 his two small children and gave his wife a kiss.
The next day my 40 drove me to ask him about what I had seen. “Oh, that’s my trouble tree,” he replied. “I know I can’t 41 having troubles on the job, but the troubles don’t 42 to the house with my family. So I just 43 them up on the tree. Then in the morning I pick them up again.”
“ 44 thing is,” he smiled, “when I come out in the morning to pick them up, there aren’t nearly as 45 as I remember the night before.”
Putting 46 around our problems is a really good idea --- it prevents our difficulties from spilling over onto loved people, who can’t do anything about our problems. Why 47 them if they can’t help us?
So, plant yourself a trouble tree outside and use it 48 you come home. Be grateful that you have loved ones to go home to 49 your loved one is simply your beloved dog. And when you picked up your troubles on the way each morning, be 50 that they’re not as heavy as they were the night before.

Always Changing
Mark is leaving, and I’m feeling kind of sad.
You probably don’t know Mark, but you might be lucky enough 36 someone just like him. He’s been the heart and soul of the office for a couple of years combining 37 professional skills with a sweet and gentle nature.
And now he’s moving on to an exciting new professional 38 . It sounds like it could be the chance of a lifetime, and we’re 39 for him. But that doesn’t make it any easier to say goodbye to him.
Life has a way of throwing these curve(曲线)balls 40 us. Just when we start to get comfortable with a person, a place or a situation, something comes along to 41 the recipe.
Our ability to cope with change 42 to a great degree, our peace, happiness and contentment in life.
But how do we do that? A friend of mine is fond of reminding us that“survivability depends upon 43 .”And then there’s Chris the California surf-rat, who once told me that the answer to life’s problems can be 44 in four words:“Go with the flow.”
I’m not exactly sure , but I think Chris was saying that life is a series of 45 —both good and bad . No matter how excellent your skill , there will always be life-influencing factors over which you have no 46 . The truly successful person expects the unexpected, and is prepared to 47 adjustments should the need arise-as it almost 48 does.
That doesn't mean you don't keep trying to make all your 49 come true.It just means that when things come up that aren't 50 in your plan, you work around them—and then you move on。
“Change, indeed,is painful, 51 ever needful,”said philosopher Thomas Carlyle.“And if memory has its force and worth,so also has 52 .”
we're going to miss Mark. But rather than stay on the 53 of our parting,we'll focus on our hopes for a brighter future-for him,and for us.And then we'll go out and 54
everything we can to make that future happen. 55 our plans change--again.

Butterfly’s wings
One day a small opening appeared on a cocoon(茧), a man sat and watched for the butterfly for several hours as it was struggling to __36__ its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten __37__ it could and it could go no further. So the man decided to __38__ the butterfly: he took a pair of scissors and __39__ the remaining part of the cocoon. The butterfly then __40__ easily.
But it has a swollen(肿胀的)body and __41__ wings. The man continued to __42__ the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the __43__ would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would __44__ the time span(跨度). Neither happened! __45__, the butterfly spent the rest of its life __46__ around with a swollen body and small, shriveled(褶皱的)wings. It __47__ was able to fly. What the man did in his __48__ and haste(匆忙)did no good to the butterfly. He didn’t know the __49__ cocoon and the struggle __50__ for the butterfly to get through the tiny __51__ were the natural way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings __52__ it would be ready for flight once it achieved its __53__ from the cocoon.
Sometimes the __54__ is exactly what we need in our life. If we are allowed to go through our life without any __55__, it would not be a good thing to us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been.

I was reading a notice at the entrance to my college dormitory, when a girl came up to me and said, “Do you _26_ a quarter? I’m one short of putting my laundry(刚洗好的衣物) in the dryer(烘干机). ”
I _27_ to think about it for a few seconds and considered whether I’d be _28_ to give a quarter away. I found myself _29_ her, thinking about why she didn’t _30_ four quarters down from her room with her, as if she had _31_ to be one short so she could ask someone else for it. (Later I knew _32_ that was not the case.)
But I didn’t have any reason to _33_her. Then I responded, “Yeah, I think I have the only one,” though fully _34_ that I had three. “Here you go,” I said with a smile. “Thanks,” she responded, _35_ that she could have clean clothes to wear the next morning.
A few moments later the girl _36_ and gave a dollar bill to me. “Why are you giving this to me?” I asked, _37_. “Oh, because you were kind to me, so I’m just giving back the _38_.”
It’s just a dollar, but I felt it was _39_. More so because I hadn’t given that quarter with such nice _40_, the way she gave that dollar to me. I felt like it was the first time I ever _41_ something greater in return for something so_42_ that I had given. I saw the power of kindness and generosity in a _43_way.
I thought it was so worth giving that quarter away. Giving and _44_ don’t usually happen hand-in-hand, _45_ when it does, like it did this time, it makes one think about why generosity is so powerful in the first place.
