Children in kindergarten are learning social skills. For this reason, it’s important to tell the children what will make them become good citizens when they grow up. It’s up to parents, teachers and all others involved with a kid to teach these skills.
Teaching kids to pick up things by themselves is a good way to teach them not to throw things on the ground. For example, if a class has to make paper cutouts (剪下的图样), after cutting, have the children pick up the wastepaper and place it in the wastebasket.
The golden rule of good citizenship should be taught at this age. The rule is “One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself”. Teachers should ask their students how they want to be treated. There are many answers, such as not being treated in bad manners. The teacher should explain that others don’t like to be scared, so you should not scare (使惊恐) others either.
Following the laws is good citizenship(公民义务). Proper games can be played in the classroom. Games have rules, and all students in the class should follow the rules of the games. If a child doesn’t want to follow, it is up to the teacher to explain them to the child. Teaching children about following rules should help them understand the need to obey the law when they become adults.

An elderly carpenter (木匠）was ready to retire. He told his employer of his plans to leave the house-building business to live a more leisurely（休闲的) life with his wife and children. His employer(老板）was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but it was obvious that his heart was already not in his work . He built it impatiently and used poor materials. It was unfortunate for a wonderful career to end like that.
When the carpenter finished his work, his employer came to insect the house. Then he handed the front-door key to the carpenter and said, ”This is your house. It’s my gift to you.”
The carpenter was shocked! What a shame! If he had known he was building his own house, he would done it all so differently.

An elephant was standing and picking leaves from a tree. A small fly came，flying and buzzing (嗡嗡叫) near his ear. The elephant waved it away with his long ears. Then the fly came again, and the elephant waved it away once more.

Florence Chadwick was a great swimmer. However, not all of her efforts worked out. In addition to working hard, she had a secret for success. At the age of 34, her goal was to become the first woman to swim from Catalina Island to the California coast. However, in 1952, the sea was like an ice bath and the fog was so dense that she could hardly see her support boats. Her body was numb(麻木) and she had been swimming for nearly 16 hours. Against the cold grip of the sea, she struggled on—hour after hour—while millions watched on national television. She never had… until then. With only a half mile to go, she asked to be pulled out. Still warming her chilled body several hours later, she told a reporter, “Look, I’m not excusing myself, but if I could have seen land I might have made it.” It was not tiredness or even the cold water that defeated her.
