Many years ago I was on a bicycle trip through some exceedingly picturesque (如画的) countryside. Suddenly, dark clouds piled up overhead and rain began to fall, but strange to ___50___, several hundred yards ahead of me the sun shone brilliantly. Riding, however, as rapidly as I could, I found it ___51___ to get into the clear. The clouds with their rain kept advancing faster than I could race forward. I continued this unequal contest for an exhausting half hour, ___52___ realizing that I could not win my way to the bright area ahead of me.
Then it dawned upon me that I was wasting my strength in unimportant hurry, while paying no attention whatsoever to the landscape ___53___ which I was making the trip. The storm could not last forever and the discomfort was not unendurable. Indeed, there was much to look at which might ___54___ have escaped me. As I gazed about with sharpened ___55___, I saw colours and lines and shapes that would have appeared differently under brilliant light. The rain mists (薄雾) which now ___56___ the wooded hills and the fresh clearness of the different greens were entrancing (迷人的). My annoyance at the rain was gone and my eagerness to ___57___ it disappeared. It had provided me with a new view and helped me understand that the ___58___ of beauty and satisfaction may be found close at hand within the ___59___ of one’s own sensibilities.
It made me think, then and later, about other matters to which this incident was related. It helped me realize that there is no sense in my ___60___ ever to flee from circumstances and conditions which cannot be avoided but which I might bravely ___61___ and frequently mend and often turn to good account. I know that half the battle is won if I can face trouble with courage, __62__ with spirit, and triumph with humility. It has become ever clearer to me that danger is far from disaster, that defeat may be the forerunner of final ___63___, and that, in the last analysis, all achievement is dangerously weak ___64___ based on enduring principles of moral conduct.

Have you ever tried to draw a straight line, only to find it turns out all wrong? Or, wanted to show   36   at a party but the song you’d practised so many times suddenly   37   more difficult?
I've had both these   38  .As a Senior 3 student, I have to   39   many exams. Each time I enter one thinking “I   40   fail this time.” , I get a low mark.
But don't be surprised --- it's not   41   we don't try, or do enough preparation, or take it   42  . On the contrary, it is because we put ourselves under too much   43  . It is thinking ‘I must…’ that makes us taste the terrible flavor of   44  .
We often   45   to our friends, “Don't be too hard   46   yourself!”. But when we   47   our own goals, we may not listen to our own advice.
In doing so, we are making our path to success increasingly difficult.
So why not   48   this crazy pursuit(追求) to get the best? Just face the problem   49   before you with a calm mind, enjoy the hard work and you will succeed.
In my opinion,   50  a calm state of mind is a skill for life. For people who want to succeed,   51   this is a very important lesson.
So   52   time when you're trying to draw a straight line or   53  a performance, tell yourself, “If I can just do it better than last time, it's a   54  . ”
Keep a calm state of mind, and you will be happy   55   you succeed or fail.

Last week, I took a sales class for female business owners. The     36    thing the instructor did was ask if anyone had been the victim of a     37    sales experience. Every person in the room    38    her hand.
When she knew details, we learned that the     39    situations had one thing in common. It     40    that whenever a class member had a bad sales experience, it involved the     41    promising something he wouldn’t or couldn’t deliver.
The example I     42   with the class was a current one. I bought a summer membership at our community pool     43    because it advertised a lovely baby pool to which I could escape with my active one and four year-olds. However, every time I’ve used the pool this summer, the baby area has been     44    . Too much chlorine(氯气),    45    one manager.
I’m sure the pool director was very apologetic that his     46    had been inconvenienced, and that’s nice, but the     47    is that I did not get what I paid for. When the baby pool was closed, I had to swim with my     48   in the adult pool, which did not     49    me the control I wanted and as such, was quite stressful. I would have rather stayed home.
The pool has     50  a customer. I will not be buying a pass next summer.
In work and in life, it is really important not to     51    something you can’t deliver, because at best, it will improve your   52     . At worse, you could lose your job.    53    , before you assure a co-worker or customer that you can get something done, make sure that your boss or someone higher-up isn’t going to step in and force you to     54    your plan. You are not God, so don’t lead people to believe that you     55   the universe.
