I finally stumbled (跌跌撞撞地) around   46   I found a desk lamp which actually   47   !
That evening I discovered in a whole new way just how dark the world   48   be and how-necessary light is! But even more necessary than   49   light is the light that shines from people—the light of  50  and faith.Because, for many people, the world is a dark and  51  place. For someone today just may be stumbling in discouragement or sadness or fear and in   52   of some light. So let your light shine.Whatever light you   53   may be a beacon of hope and encouragement. And if you feel that your light is   54   a candle in a forest remember there isn’t enough darkness in all the world to   55   the light of one small candle.

I loved making friends and I liked being helpful,   48   I decided that perhaps I could use these qualities to work to my advantage. In order to learn how to present a great election   49  , I also attended a course on effective public speaking.
The day after the election, when the principal(校长) announced I won the second highest number of votes, the students   50  . That joy on the faces of all my friends showed me that my victory was    51   theirs.
Suddenly, I realized that I had   52   much more than I had dreamed of. I had made many new friends and had helped people   53   the way. I had won the   54   and love of my school-mates and they knew me as somebody who would stand by them. I was able to put a smile on their faces and    55   their day.

When I was a law professor, a student reported that I made an error in grading his exam by giving him too many points. He was 41  and after thanking him for his honesty, I changed the grade in my  42   . His beaming(欢笑的)face turned to shock."You're  43   my grade?" he said angrily."I would never have come in  44   …"
He didn't finish the  45_ , but it was obvious that his display of honesty was  46_ .He thought he'd have it all —praise and the higher grade.
Several colleagues thought I should have let the higher grade 47   because all I'd accomplished was to discourage him from being  48  in the future. And every time I tell this story, some people agree to this   49
But I can't see how I could give good reason for worsening my_ 50   in grading by undermining(损害) the honesty of all my grades by failing to  51  an error. The grade itself would be a dishonest  52   of his knowledge and it would have been 53  to other students. How could I  54  give a student a gift of an unearned grade?
I know 55  reporting an error in one's favor is unusual, but, like 56_ too much change, it's clearly the right thing to do.People of character, those with real honesty, hate to give up  57  as much as anyone else. The difference is that for them a good conscience and reputation is  58
enough to give reason for the cost of doing the right thing.
Perhaps lowering the student's grade did  59  him from being honest in the future, but bribing(贿赂)him to be honest so that he does the right thing when its cost-free would have   60  him even more. The duty to be honest is about right and wrong, not risks and rewards.

As I understand, if scientists produced a human clone, there would be a great risk of it having a disease. Nobody seems to understand the ageing process of a clone. It would be terrible if a baby was the age of its parent at     31    . Its cells would grow old fast and it would die young.    32     until the technique is perfectly safe, it should be     33    .
I'd love to have a clone of     34    . I often wish I had a twin sister, someone who    35    me in everything. So why not a clone? Well, the idea    36    be fun but I'm not sure if it would be     37    . I think we would be playing with fire if we let scientists go ahead with     38    cloning. There are so many     39
involved that all research in this area should be strictly controlled.
There are so many arguments     40     cloning that it is difficult to get anyone to consider the possible benefits. I am     41     that it is a technique which could be beneficial. The most obvious use would be for childless     42    . They would be able to have babies with their own genetic material. I don't see what's wrong with that.
Imagine a child     43     up knowing that his or her mother is really a sister or a brother. The emotional     44     on the child would be     45    . Or a child who was cloned from a dead brother or sister. What kind of emotional pressure would they feel, knowing they were made as a replacement for another? The whole idea

Even though it was only October, my students were already whispering about Christmas plans. With each passing day everyone became more  31   waiting for the final school bell. Upon its   32  everyone would run for their coats and go home, everyone except David
David was a small boy in ragged clothes. But something made David   35  . I can still remember he was always  36  a smile and willing to help. He always  37  after school to straighten chairs and mop the floor. We never talked much. He  38  just smile and ask what else he could do ,then thank me for letting him stay and slowly  39  home.
Weeks passed and the  40  over the coming Christmas grew into restlessness until the last day of  41  before the holiday break. I smiled in  42  as the last of them hurried out the door. Turning around I saw David 43  standing by my desk.
“I have something for you” he said and   44  from behind his back a small box.  45    it to me, he said anxiously, “Open it. ”I took the box from him, thanked him and slowly unwrapped it. I lifted the lid and to my 46  saw nothing. I looked at David’s smiling face and back into the box and said. “The box is nice, David, but it’ s  47 .
“ Oh no it isn’t ,” said David “ It’s full of love, my mum told me before she died that love was something you couldn’t see or touch unless you know it’s there .”
Tears filled my eyes  48  Ilooked at the proud dirty face that I had rarely given  49   to. After that Christmas, David and I became good friends and I never forgot the meaning 50  the little empty box set on my desk.

Not many foreigners can say that they have lived in China for as long as I have. Perhaps some can hack(应对) it for about two or three years and then they want to either go back home or move on to another country. As for me, I cannot get 36 of this place. So, after 24 hours and a 55 in Korea, I arrived in Beijing. I don't know what my feeling was, but I wasn't tired because I had finally arrived and I just wanted to look around the city. Education from My Father
My memories of my father are slim because he was so sick in the last years of his life. But there are   32   that I am often reminded of and which may have had some bearing on my love of   33  .
When I was small I was somewhat   34   of lightning and thunder. My father explained it. The explanation was in   35   that a child could understand but was basically correct. I gained a better   36   later, but I didn’t have to unlearn anything.
What he said was that there was electricity in the clouds   37   it traveled to the ground like a spark. When it traveled   38   the air it made the air so hot that it   39  . Then there was nothing where the air had been and the air all around rushed in to   40   the space. He clapped his hands together very loud,   41   to be the air rushing in, and said that makes the thunder. When I hear thunder, I can still hear that   42  .
He explained why if it was cloudy in the winter the night was warmer than if it was   43  . It was one of those nights when the sky was full of stars: no moon, no town lights. But there were more stars than you could   44   and they had color too. He said that if there were no clouds, we had no blankets and were   45   to the universe. Our warmth was going to   46   the whole universe. When there were clouds, they were like blankets and we were not exposed to the universe. I   47   feel on the edge of space on a very clear night.
I am sure there were many other lessons that I   48   but no longer remember. What I did 49  , in general, was that there were explanations and that the more I understood them, the more     comfortable the world was to live in. I was not taught that there were   50   but that there was understanding if you looked for it. This may be why I have always been   51   in science.

“Good night, Yammine.”
“Good night, Chief,” I reply.
The cell door __36__ and I hear Chief's keys clinking as other doors clang shut further down the row. I step into my little cell and sit down. I glance up at the window, covered in mesh(铁网),and think to myself, “This isn't a life, it's just a(n) __37__.”
Being __38__ makes me feel as though I'm being buried alive. I am a puppet(木偶) with people __39__ strings so that I eat, sleep and wake when they want me to.
I lie on my bed as night __40__ and think the same thoughts __41__. I think about how it all went so wrong, and imagine how I will __42__ for all the time I've lost.
Every day I live the same routine and nothing changes except the people. Prisoners depart for other prisons, or get __43__. Others __44__ from different prisons, or fresh from custody. It's a __45__ revolving(旋转) door.
When I committed my __46__, I was a lost young boy, but now I am __47__. Walking around the yard, I would notice my fellow prisoners reading books and writing letters to friends and family, which upset me as my __48__ at school was limited.
I longed for the day when I'd be able to sit in the sun, enjoying a cup of coffee and reading a newspaper or book __49__ my choice. I also longed to write letters to my friends and family, sharing my thoughts and feelings.
I decided not to waste my time inside and, __50__, make the most of all the resources available to me. I started to learn and was __51__ to realize my dream.
Now, after five years' persistence, heartache and hard work, I have __52__ my goal. Having __53__ a course as a reading adviser, I can now help others to read and write. And I have even started a creative writing workshop at Junee Correctional Centre. Learning to read and write at a highter level has given me the inner strength to present myself in a more __54__ manner.
And the day I've dreamed about has come true: I now enjoy my cup of coffee with a book in my other hand. Learning to read and write has changed my life and this article is my first piece of “proper” writing, and it won't be my __55__.

We all know that some things are obviously right. For example, it is right to be    1    to other people. It is also right to look after the environment. Some things are   2    wrong, too. For instance, we should not hurt or bully(欺负) others, nor should we litter. Rules often tell us what is right or wrong.
Rules can help the public make the right    3   ,and remain safe. Car drivers have to obey traffic regulations that tell them the right things to do on the road to avoid crashes. Cyclists who give signals before turning or stopping help prevent   4   .
If people follow rules without taking other matters into consideration, it will be    5   for them to form what is sometimes called a “black and white” view. Sometimes it may not be so easy to know   8   what is right or wrong. Some people choose not to eat meat because they believe that it is    9    to eat animals, but others argue that they can eat meat and    10    be kind to animals; some insist that stealing is always wrong, but others think that one does not need to feel to   11    when stealing some food to eat, if lives in a really poor area and he is   12   . Rules help us live together in harmony, because they show us the right way to   13    other. However, some people argue that rules may be    14   , having observed that rules change all the time , and that some schools have some regulations and other have different ones ----so who is to   15   what is right ?
