Are you truly happy? Do you ever know what it means to be happy and what it takes to achieve happiness? These are important questions for anyone who is seeking happiness to ask themselves. The following are a few tips that I follow to create happiness in my life.

* 3 . These few minutes will give you the opportunity to focus on the positive things in your life and will lead you to continuous happiness.
* 4 . Whether you treat yourself to lunch ,take a long relaxing bath or simply spend a few extra minutes on your appearance , you will be subconsciously (下意识地)putting yourself in a better mood.
* Finding the humor in situations can also lead to happiness. Find a way to make light of a situation that would otherwise make you happy.

Does this situation seem familiar to you? Your English is progressing well, the grammar is now familiar, the reading comprehension is no problem, and you are speaking quite fluently. __1__.
First of all, remember that you are not alone. Listening is probably the most difficult job for almost all learners of English as a foreign language. __2__What you need to do is to find listening resources. The Internet is really a useful tool for English students. You can download RealPlayer from RealMedia. Com. RealPlayer allows you to use the Internet like a radio station.
Once you have begun to listen on a regular basis, you might still be frustrated(挫败)by limited understanding. __3__
Here is some of the advice I give my students:
·Accept the fact that you are not going to understand everything.
·Stay relaxed when you do not understand, and try listening to the material for more times.
·Do not translate everything into your native language.
·__4__Don’t concentrate on details until you have understood the main idea.
·Listen to something you enjoy.
I remember the problems I had in understanding spoken German when I first went to Germany. In the beginning, when I didn’t understand a word, I insisted on translating it in my mind. __5__Then, after the first six months, I discovered two extremely important facts. Firstly, translating creates a barrier(障碍) between the listener and the speaker. Secondly, most people repeat themselves constantly. By remaining calm, I noticed that even if I didn’t pay much attention I could usually understand what the speaker had said.
A.This method usually resulted in confusion(困惑). |
B.But you can’t follow a native English speaker at all! |
C.What should you do? |
D.But listening is a problem for most of the beginners! |

1 When a starving man gets a meal, he begins to think about an overcoat; when an executive(业务主管)gets a new sports car, visions of country clubs dance into view. The many wants of mankind might be regarded as making up several levels. 2 .The first and most basic levels of wants involve food. Once this want is satisfied, a second level of wants appears: clothing and some sort of shelter. By the end of World War II these wants were satisfied for a great majority of Americans. 3 It included such items as automobiles and new houses. By 1957 or 1958 this third level of wants was fairly well satisfied. Then, in the late 1950s a fourth level of wants appeared: the “life-enriching” level. While the other levels involve physical satisfaction-the feeding, comfort, safety, and transportation of the human body-this level stresses mental needs for recognition, achievement and happiness. It includes a variety of goods and services, many of which could be called “luxury”(奢侈) items. Among them are vacation trips, the best medical care, and entertainment. 4 On this level, a greater percentage of consumer spending goes to services, while on the first three levels more is spent on goods. Will consumers raise their sights to a fifth level of wants as their income increases, or will they continue to demand luxuries and personal services on the fourth level? A fifth level probably would involve wants that can be achieved best by community action. Consumers may be spending more on taxes to pay for government action against disease, ignorance, crime and prejudice. 5 In this way, we can enjoy more fully the good things on the first four levels.
A.Then a third level appeared. |
B.Human wants seem endless. |
C.When there is money enough to satisfy one level of wants, another level appears. |
D.There are several levels of wants in one’s life. |
E.At this stage, we now may seek to ensure the health, safety, and leisure.
F.Also included here are fancy foods and the latest styles in clothing.
G.Different people have different wants on each level.

Healthy Relationship Tips
Healthy relationships are effortless, if both the people involved take equal effort to maintain it. Here are a few healthy relationship tips to help you build the dream of your life.
________________
Communication is an art of putting your thoughts into words, so that they are exactly understood by the opposite person. Communication does not mean going on talking unnecessarily. This is the first mistake that couples make. One person in the relationship assumes the role of talker and the other becomes the listener. Their roles remain so forever. The talker forgets to listen and the listener becomes used to listening and not reacting. If your partner takes time to open up, help them out by asking questions. So hear them out and give proper reactions. You will obtain the benefits of a healthy relationship through increased confidence in both of you to open up and hear things out.
________________
Regular conversations take the form of heated arguments amongst many couples. Understand that not every statement needs a reaction. Maybe a certain reaction may lead to an argument with your partner. Just agree with whatever it is and there will be no harm done. Try and reach a mutual (相互的) agreement. If that’s not possible leave the topic for later. If you give it time, maybe both of you will be able to think about it rationally.
________________
Every single day is a blessing. Each moment with your partner is a moment to learn something new and discover the finer nuances (细微差别) of your relationships. Each one of us keeps changing every day, the circumstances around us change every day and with that our attitude also needs to change. The same applies when you are living with a person. Learning every day and taking every day as a challenge will help you perfect healthy relationship tips.
________________
This tip is especially meant for couples with children on how to maintain healthy relationships. After a certain period, couples complain about romance being lost. To keep your relationship healthy, take some time out from your day-to-day routines to spend some quality time with your partner. This can be done as dinners, indulging in outdoor activities or just hanging out at a coffee shop like old times.
________________
Respect has to be earned. It can only be earned only if you learn to respect. Often, one of the partners plays the role of a dictator to give orders, while the other simply follows. Both sides involved are equally responsible for this mistake. Learn to respect each other and understand that both of you are equally responsible for the relationship.
Creating a healthy relationship takes equal effort from both sides. Sharing, caring, being apologetic, forgiving and having realistic expectations are some of the important ingredients to the recipe of a healthy relationship.

If you do not use your arms or your legs for some time, they become weak; when you start using them again, 1 . Everybody knows this, and nobody would think of questioning this fact. Yet there are many people who do not seem to know that the memory works in the same way. When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by exercising it regularly, either consciously or unconsciously. 2 , he really means that he does not give it enough opportunities to become strong. The position is exactly the same as that of two people, one of whom exercise his arms and legs by playing tennis, while the other sits in a chair or a motor car all day.
If a friend complains that his arms are weak, 3 . But if he tells us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his parents are to blame, or that he is just unlucky, and few of us realize that it is just as much his own fault as if it was his arms or legs that were weak. Not all of us can become extremely strong or extremely clever; but all of us can, if we have ordinary bodies and brains, improve our strength and our memory by the same means—practice.
Have you ever noticed that people who cannot read or write usually have better memories than those who can? 4 ? Of course, because those who cannot read or write have to remember dates, time and prices, names, songs and stories; so their memory is the whole time being exercised.
5 , learn from the poor; practice remembering.
A.So if you want a good memory |
B.When someone else says that his memory is poor |
C.When someone else says that he is poor in health |
D.Why is this |
E. What is this
F. we know that it is his own fault
G. they slowly become strong again

__1____Painkillers in a tablet can make your headache go away. Antibiotic cream(抗生膏)from a tube can prevent your cuts from becoming infected. But can medicine come packaged in chicken eggs?
A team of scientists from Scotland says yes. They've engineered special chickens that lay eggs with disease-treating drugs inside.
_2____Animals make thousands of proteins—they’re the main ingredient in skin, hair, milk, and meat. Since animals can make proteins easily, they’re good candidates for making protein drugs.
Researchers have already made cows, sheep, and goats that pump out protein drugs in their milk. But chickens are not expensive to take care of; what’s more, they need less room, and grow faster than these other animals. “ __3____”says Simon Lillico of the Roslin Institute near Edinburgh, Scotland.
Lillico and a team of researchers changed chickens’ DNA—the code that tells cells how to make proteins so that the birds’ cells made two protein drugs. __4____
The scientists altered the chickens’ DNA so that the birds made these drugs only in their egg whites (蛋清). This protects the chickens’ bodies from the drugs’ possible harmful effects and makes it easy for scientists to collect the drugs.
These special chickens can pass on their drug-laying abilities to their chicks. __5____ The scientists need to improve these chickens before they roost (栖息) in drug companies’ labs. The birds don’t make enough drugs to treat people yet. But once the researchers perfect their technique, you might eventually take your medicine sunny-side up.
A.Medicine comes in lots of different uses. |
B.Those qualities could make chickens a better choice to become living drug factories. |
C.So far, the Scottish researchers have bred five generations of drug—producing birds. |
D.Some chickens are found having the ability of treating diseases. |
E. One drug can treat skin cancer, and the other treats a nerve disease called multiple sclerosis(硬化).
F. These drugs are made of molecules called proteins.
G. Medicine comes in lots of different packages.

Why do some people have many friends while others do not? However, it is not so. Let’s look at two psychological experiments which will give you the key to happy interpersonal relations.
The first experiment is called the “Hawthorne effect” after Hawthorne, Illinois, where the experiment took place. A group of psychologists examined the work patterns of two groups of workers in the Western Electric Company. The psychologists changed the working conditions for one group twice but left the other group alone. They were surprised to find that productivity increased on both occasions and in both groups. They concluded that the increase in productivity came from the attention given to the workers by the management. It had increased their motivation and so they had worked harder. In other words, if you take an interest in others, they will want to please you and you will have good relations with them.
After Martin Luther King, Jr was killed in 1960s, a teacher, Jane Elliott, living in an all-white town decided to help her class of young children understand why the Civil Rights Movement had been necessary in America.
She divided the class into two groups: one with blue eyes and other with brown eyes. Other eye colors such as hazel or green were excluded from his exercise. Then she told the class that brown-eyed people were cleverer than blue-eyed ones because of an agent for brown color found in their blood. Blue-eyed people were stupid, lazy and not to be trusted. Jane Elliott did not need to say any more. The brown-eyed students quickly got used to their new role as the leaders of the class. The blue-eyed students became quiet and withdrawn. Then she discovered something very interesting. Four poor brown-eyed readers began to read fluently in a way they had never done before. So if you want to be successful and happy, take an interest in others whether they are your classmates or workmates. Congratulate them on their success and sympathize with them in their troubles.
A.Before the experiment the management talked to both groups of workers and explained that they wanted to find the best working environment for them. |
B.Remember that the way you treat others will decide their attitude and behavior to you. |
C.The second experiment shows what happens to personal relations if you are rude to or ignore others. |
D.The ones who have more friends usually are those who care about others. |
E. Jane Elliott had shown that the way people are treated affects not only their behavior but also their confidence and their performance.
F. You may even imagine that this ability was something they were born with because it seems so effortless to them.
G. The second experiment tells us what teachers said had a great effect on the students.
