What is a dream?
For centuries, people have wondered about the strange places that they seem to visit in their sleep.   1 However, they have been valued as necessary to a person's health and happiness.
Historically people thought dreams contained messages from God. It was only in the twentieth century that people started to study dreams scientifically believing that they tell about a person's character. 2  He believed that dreams allow a person to express fantasies or fears, which would be socially unacceptable in real life.
The second theory to become popular was Carl Jung's compensation theory. Jung, a former student of Freud, said that the purpose of a dream is not to hide something, but rather to communicate it to the dreamer.  3 Thus, people who think too highly of themselves may  dream about falling; those who think too little of themselves dream of being heroes.
Using more recent research, William Domhoff from the University of California found that  dreaming is a mental skill that needs time to develop in humans. , 4  Until they reach age  five, they can not express very well what their dreams are about. Once people become adults,  there is little or no change in their dreams. The dreams of men and women differ. For instance,
The characters that appear in the dreams of men are often  other men, and often involve physical aggression.

It’s natural to greet friends with a smile and a wave. _______ But what happens if your face and body send mixed messages? Would someone be more likely to believe the look on your face or the way you hold your body?
Scientists have recently tackled these questions. They found that when a person is looking at your face, she might not believe what she sees of your body language doesn’t match the feeling that your face shows. _______ Previously, they had found that the tone of a person’s voice can be more important than the words that are spoken. For example, most people tend not to believe a person who says in a flat voice, “I’m so excited.”
When it came to emotions conveyed by facial expressions and body language, most scientists suspected that the face was more important. To test if this was true, psychologists from the Netherlands and Boston showed people a number of pictures of isolated(孤立的) faces and isolated bodies(with faces blurred out (模糊的))that showed anger or fear. ____
An angry face had low eyebrows and tight lips. A scared face had high eyebrow and a slightly open mouth. ___ A scared body had arms forward and shoulders square, as if ready to defend.
These results told the researchers that mixed signals can confuse people. Even when people pay attention to the face, body language subtly(微妙地) influences which emotion they read.
___ ____And if you want to be understood, it helps to avoid sending mixed messages.

A.Scientists feel new to study the mixed message that confuses people.
B.When you do this, your face and body work together to show your friends that you’re happy to see them.
C. Studying such mixed messages is nothing new for scientists..
D.They also showed pictures in which angry or scared faces were paired with angry or scared bodies

E.Body language can sometimes be misunderstood in different culture backgrounds.
F.So, your body language is important for telling people how you feel.
G.An angry body had arms back and shoulders at an angle, as if ready to fight.

B. Magazines and newspapers provide adults with critical news.

C. Being exposed to magazines and newspapers benefits you a lot.

D. Keep interesting magazine pictures to give children story ideas.

E. Magazines are valuable assets for many people, but in particular to children.

F. Magazines and newspapers are expensive now but out of style.

Magazine Articles: More Valuable Than You May Think

Parents are often surprised when teachers suggest their children read magazines. Read on to learn about the benefits that reading magazines offers to young readers and how to introduce your children to the medium.

   Magazine Benefits

Magazine articles can provide reluctant readers with a lively, breezy writing style that can inspire them to read more.

The articles in magazines are generally short, which allows a child to finish reading a feature article without losing interest due to a short attention span. The writing in magazines also tends to be easy to read, especially if it is a children's publication.

By allowing your child to read magazines at an early age, you are encouraging development of a useful skill.(1) Getting into the habit of reading periodicals as a child will foster the habit of reading news articles that may continue into adulthood.

   (2) Magazine articles challenge students to think about issues they may have never considered or cause them to rethink their world view. Information is available in a wide variety of reading levels because magazines are written for every audience imaginable. Many publications cover the same material in different writing styles that might make it easier for your child to comprehend.

   Magazine Activities

Reading magazines as a family can be used to introduce each other to the various interests that each family member possesses. When your children are finished with their magazines, encourage them to pass their issue on to a sibling or other family member.

Once each family member has finished reading each magazine, you can use them for art and writing projects. These projects are for family members of all ages:

   1. Cut out pictures to help your preschool and kindergarten children learn their alphabet, numbers, and colors.

   2. (3) Paste the picture at the top of a page and have them write a story about what is happening or what the picture represents.

   3. Clip pictures to create a collage. Many teenagers love using their artistic talents to collage.

   (4) The skills that students utilize and strengthen when reading magazines can be applied to higher level reading and other academic subjects. Encouraging your child to read by giving them a magazine subscription could cause them to take the leap from being a reluctant reader to a voracious page﹣turner.
