The biggest animal in the world lives in the ocean. It's the blue whale.
How big are blue whales? They can be 31 metres long. They can weigh 136,000 kg. They are bigger than any other animal - even dinosaurs.
Blue whales are not fish. They are mammals. This means they breathe air and their babies drink milk. They can stay underwater for an hour. Their “nose” is on top of their head. They breathe through it.
What do they eat? They are very big but they don't eat sharks or dolphins. They eat very small fish.
Do they swim slowly? No, they don't. They can swim 48 kilometres an hour.
Blue whales are also the loudest animal on the Earth. They make very loud low sounds. Their sounds can travel hundreds of kilometres.
There are not many blue whales now - only 8,000 to 14,000. They are protected now so people in the future can see these beautiful animals, too.
