According to the World Happiness Report, people who live in Denmark(丹麦) are the happiest in the world. Why?Because they know the secret to happiness﹣"hygge".But what is"hygge"?

The Danish(丹麦的) word"hygge"(pronounced"hoo﹣ga") is often translated in English as"coziness".But coziness paints only part of the picture. It's also about spending peaceful time in a quiet environment with no calendar. It's about spending time alone or spending time with family.

Danish people are very good at"hygge".For example, they create a"hygge"environment by burning candles in classrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, etc.According to some reports,Danish people burn more candles every year than people from any other European country.

However,"hygge"isn't just about creating a nice and warm environment; it is best enjoyed with family members and friends. With up to 17 hours of darkness every day in winter,Danish people spend more time indoors as a result, and they often get together for a meal or hot drinks, without the distraction(使人分心的事物) of technology or the stress of daily life.

Still can't understand what"hygge"is?If you're reading this in a comfortable chair, with a few candles around you, that sense of coziness you're feeling might just be"hygge".

Do the British really get together every afternoon at 4to sit and drink several cups of tea? Ask any of my German students and they will tell you "YES!" But it's simply not sure.

We drink over 150million cups of tea a day in Britain, but there is no special time for it. "Tea" is wildly used as a meal for the evening meal. This is more common in Scotland and the north of England but you can hear it all over the country. Unusually it is the main meal of the day, eaten between 5and 7. So,"teatime" refers to (指的是) the meal and not the drink. In the south, the evening meal is often called dinner, however, dinner in the north is the midday meal. In general:

North: Breakfast ﹣﹣ Dinner﹣﹣ Teatime

South: Breakfast ﹣﹣ Lunch﹣﹣ Dinner

What about tea breaks? Surely this must be a special time for tea? Wrong again, I'm afraid. Tea breaks are just an opportunities(机会) to have a rest from work for around 10minutes. In this time you can drink what ever you like (which of course includes tea ). This is usually with a small snack, like biscuits. The best time for a tea break is around 11a.m. or around 3p.m.

But what about tea rooms? Can I drink tea there? Yes! A tea room is the perfect place to go with friends and family to enjoy tea, cakes and sandwiches. This is known as afternoon tea and is usually saved for special occasions(场合) such as a birthday party.

Some people have found that they always spend much more on travelling than planned. Here is how it happens:

1. Preparing too much before travelling

Some people, especially females, like to travel as if starting a new life. Several weeks before the trip, they would be busy shopping for new dresses, better sunglasses and best﹣selling books. They would rather fill their travelling bags up with all fashionable things. Just travelling? Attending a fashion show more like it. They care more about their appearance than the sights they see during the trip.

2. Following other travellers blindly

They can't stop shopping for objects they would never normally buy and would certainly never use. For example, we can find a group of travellers "getting ahead" to buy "Christmas" presents even in summer.

3. Replacing things that are forgotten to bring

They don't remember to bring things like trainers, cool bags, toothbrushes or beach towels. The towels sold near beaches are nearly the price of gold leaves. They spend a lot on those things. However, plenty of new towels are sleeping in their bathroom at home.

阅读以上信息,用恰当的单词完成下面的短文,每空一词.

People usually find themselves poorer than they planned after a holiday trip. There are mainly three (1) . Firstly, some female travellers consider a journey as attending a fashion show. Dear Headmaster,

Lately our class has become worried about the environment at the back of the school, and we would like to do something to make it more attractive. We have done some research and have come up with a plan. With the help of our parents,we can do most of the work ourselves, but we will need a small amount of money for equipment, plants﹣and paint.I am writing to ask the council for permission to do this work and to ask if the school council could donate 500towards our project.

We would like to turn the empty land at the back of the school into a nature garden. We would plant trees and grasses, make paths through the garden and dig a small pond.We think this would provide a peaceful place for students and teachers to walk in.It would also attract birds, insects and small animals which students could then study in science classes. We would also like to paint the back wall of the school that faces the new garden. Some of our art classes could then paint a huge picture on it.It might be possible to paint over the wall each year so the next classes can make a new picture.

Lastly,we would like to paint all the rubbish bins.At the moment they look old and the paint is coming off.If we paint them in bright, attractive colours, students might be more likely to use them.We think our plan would greatly improve the back of the school and everyone in the school would benefit. We have already asked our parents and they have promised to donate one weekend of their time to help us complete the project.

We hope you will give us permission for this worthwhile project and will be able to donate the $500we need. When we have finished the work,we hope the council will join us in a celebration morning tea so that the whole school can thank you.

Yours sincerely,

Jim White
