Have you ever imagined what life will be like in 2060?An international group of forty scientists have made some surprising predictions. They said that in the next forty years, our lives would change beyond our wildest dreams.

Firstly, humans can grow body parts themselves.Dr.Ellen Heber﹣Katz is one of the forty scientists. He says, "People will think it common that sick organs (器官) can be repaired. It's just like the way we fix a car." Damaged parts will be taken away.Scientists could use human cells (细胞) to grow new organs.New technologies like this will also help people to live longer.Within forty years, most people will be able to live up to one hundred years.

Secondly, the scientists have predicted that a machine will be invented to "read" the minds of animals. In 2060,we will be able to "talk" to animals.Scientists say that humans may first "talk" with mammals (哺乳动物) and then other vertebrates (脊椎动物) such as fish.

Our houses might also change beyond our imagination.Dr.Susan Greenfield predicts that when you enter the living room, sensors (传感器) will know you. They will turn on the lights. If you talk to the lights, they will change to the color of your choice.

But what would be the biggest breakthrough (突破) over the next forty years?A number of scientists believe it would be the discovery of aliens.NASA scientist Chris Mckay says, "We may find aliens in space and talk with them." He believes marks of alien life may even be found here on Earth.

Dear Headmaster,

Lately our class has become worried about the environment at the back of the school, and we would like to do something to make it more attractive. We have done some research and have come up with a plan. With the help of our parents,we can do most of the work ourselves, but we will need a small amount of money for equipment, plants﹣and paint.I am writing to ask the council for permission to do this work and to ask if the school council could donate 500towards our project.

We would like to turn the empty land at the back of the school into a nature garden. We would plant trees and grasses, make paths through the garden and dig a small pond.We think this would provide a peaceful place for students and teachers to walk in.It would also attract birds, insects and small animals which students could then study in science classes. We would also like to paint the back wall of the school that faces the new garden. Some of our art classes could then paint a huge picture on it.It might be possible to paint over the wall each year so the next classes can make a new picture.

Lastly,we would like to paint all the rubbish bins.At the moment they look old and the paint is coming off.If we paint them in bright, attractive colours, students might be more likely to use them.We think our plan would greatly improve the back of the school and everyone in the school would benefit. We have already asked our parents and they have promised to donate one weekend of their time to help us complete the project.

We hope you will give us permission for this worthwhile project and will be able to donate the $500we need. When we have finished the work,we hope the council will join us in a celebration morning tea so that the whole school can thank you.

Yours sincerely,

Experts believe that there are more than 8 million restaurants in the world today. So it might surprise you to learn that restaurants, as we know them, have only existed for a few centuries. Before 1765, there were no restaurants. That is, there were no places that provided the restaurant experience. There was nowhere in which a waiter brought you food and drink that you picked from a menu. In fact, there were no menus anywhere.

There were eating places travellers could go to centuries before that. The countryside was full of inns that would serve food. And there were taverns where one could get drinks. The rich could also eat special meals prepared by private cooks. But none of them could be called a "restaurant".

A man called Boulanger changed that. In 1765, he opened a place in Paris that sold soups(汤). On his sign he used the word "restaurant" to describe what he was selling. At that time, soups were considered something that could help "restore"(恢复)your health﹣ in French the word "restore" is "restaurer"﹣﹣﹣ so he called the soups "restaurants". Soon, people started buying Boulanger's soups even when they were not ill. And over time, people began to use the word "restaurant" to refer to a place selling soup rather than the soup itself. More "restaurants" opened in France, and people began to buy soups more often.

Later, restaurants in Paris began to serve other food besides soup. In the 1790s, menus started to appear. By the mid﹣1800s, there were many types of restaurants throughout the world. The United States offered coffee shops. Tea houses became popular throughout China. Paris created beautiful restaurants for the rich. Recent years have witnessed the returning of bikes across China. An increasing number of people choose cycling instead of driving to school, to workplaces or to do sightseeing. Bike﹣sharing plans are warmly welcomed in many. cities. Mobike had 5.85million active users while Ofo had 1.4million in the first week of this year.

People can unlock the shared bikes by simply using their smartphones. All bikes have GPS and can be left anywhere in public for the next user. They're popular among many Chinese people

because they help solve "last﹣mile" problems in cities. For example, many people find it difficult to get to the hotel when they get off trains or to travel around the city.

However, the plans have also led to problems such as illegal(非法的) parking, vandalism (故意破坏) and theft. In February, two nurses in Beijing were placed under administrative detention(行政拘留) for five days for putting locks on two shared bikes.

In fact, these problems are also shared by bike﹣sharing plans abroad. Started in 2007, V6lib is the largest public bike sharing system in Paris. At its early period, it also met with problems of vandalism or theft. To deal with these problems, the company came up with the idea of encouraging people to return the bikes to stations by rewarding free time for their next rides.

Now, Chinese service Organizations are also trying to deal with these problems. For example, Mobike sets a 100﹣point credit score(信用分数) for each user, but the points will be taken because of his or her bad behavior. Once a score drops below 80, bike rental(租金) will be increased from 1yuan to 100yuan per 30minutes.
