[1] A green house is a building made of glass which is used to keep warm when the outside temperature is low. In a similar way there are several gases in the atmosphere (mixture of gases that surrounds the earth) which trap the heat produced by the sun and prevent it from escaping. These gases are known as “greenhouse gases”, and the way in which they trap heat in the atmosphere is called the “greenhouse effect”. This is not simply air pollution. Most of the main greenhouse gases exist naturally in small amounts in our atmosphere, and without them earth would be 30 degrees colder and human life would not exist. In other words, the greenhouse effect is a natural course which is to some degree helpful to us.
[2] The problem is that in the last century and a half, we have been putting too many of these gases into the earth’s atmosphere by burning large quantities of coal and oil and by cutting down forest. The rapid increasing in greenhouse gases is making the world warmer. The world’s temperature has already gone up by half a degree this century, and the sea level has risen by 10 centimeters. If the amount of carbon dioxide(二氧化碳) in the atmosphere doubles, there will probably be a rise in the earth’s temperature of between 1 and 4℃. This____________________, but it would be enough to cause major changes in geography and agriculture. Large areas of the world would be flooded, and some areas would become dry and unable to produce crops. It is important, too, to consider that there may be a delay of about 30 years in the greenhouse effect. This means that we are probably experiencing only now the effect of the gases put into the atmosphere before the 1960s. Since then, our use of these gases has greatly increased.

Learning to save money when you’re young is an important lesson. All good lessons and habits begin early, and saving is a skill that everyone needs. Many people-adults included-do not have a good sense of saving for the long run.
I have been lucky to learn this lesson early because I have had a grass-cutting business since I was 10 years old. Of the money I make I spend about 10 percent and save the other 90.
Making sure you save and don’t spend too much is a good way to build up wealth. I have put my earnings in a bank. Many teens I know spend all the money they earn so it never has a chance to grow. Young people should realize that their teenage years are a great time to begin saving.
At high school,if you have a part time Job,you should have fun with some of the money. But you should also save some so that it will grow. Then you can begin planning for your future. When you spend money, you not only lose that money, but also lose the interest you could have earned by saving it.
After high school, college is expensive and then “real” life begins, with expenses such as food and rent. If you can hold onto a good percentage of the money you earn as a teen, going to college will be much easier.
Later in life it can be hard to start saving because general costs of living are more expensive and you may only have enough to pay your bills. If you want to buy a house and have a family, you need money to star with, which comes from saving.
Many say money cannot make you happy, and this is true. But money can help you to lead a sale life.
Saving early will mean yon will have to work for fewer years when you are older. It will also allow you to spend time doing the things that you want to do.
In addition to this,it means you can live the way you want to without worrying.
When did the writer learn to save money?
What is a great time to begin saving?
What’s the best title for the passage?
Stress for a teenager is as real a problem as stress for an adult. To deal with it, it’s important to understand the causes of stress in teenagers.
When parents change their jobs or if the family decides to move to a different place, the child has to change schools, find new friends, adapt to the new social circle and fit into new groups. It is always difficult for children to adapt to such changes, which can be a serious cause of stress in their life.
Academic difficulties, such as inability to understand a certain subject can cause stress. Not every child has the ability to understand every subject. Some kids need extra help besides school work to grasp a few concepts. Poor academic performance is often laughed at and is looked down upon by both teachers and peers. In such cases, it can make the child feel isolated, neglected and hurt. All of this, put together, can add to stress, which many times worsens grades.
Extra curricular activities (课外活动) such as playing a sport, or attending art classes can weigh heavily on your child’s mind. Juggling between school and extra curricular activities does seem like a burden when you have to excel at both. When the pressures from both the ends get unmanageable, teenagers tend to get tired and annoyed. Fatigue sets in, leading to stress related issues such as lack of concentration in school.
These are the common causes of stress in teenagers, which can be noticed through signs such as poor memory, anxiety, negative and pessimistic attitude. If the signs of teenage stress go unrecognized for a long time, it can make the child emotinally imbalanced.
Extra curricular activities may lead to additional pressure for teenagers when they have difficulty _________________________________________________________.
How can parents notice that their teenagers are under stress?

There are two types of people in the world. Although they have equal degree of health and wealth and other comfort of life, one becomes happy while the other becomes unhappy. This difference comes from the different ways in which they consider things, persons, events, and the resulting effects upon their minds.
People who are to be happy fix their attention on the convenience of things, the pleasant parts of a conversation, the well prepared dishes, for example. They enjoy all the cheerful things. Those who are to be unhappy think and speak only of the opposite things. So, they’re always dissatisfied. They cannot feel the pleasure of society, they hurt other people, and they make themselves unpopular everywhere. Their intention of criticizing and being disliked is perhaps taken up by imitation, but it gradually grows into a bad habit as time goes on.
Though being unhappy is most probably an act of imagination, it has serious results in life, for it brings on deep sorrow and bad luck. The unhappy ones hurt many people; nobody will love them, and nobody will treat them with basic politeness and respect. When they need some advantages in social position or fortune, no one will wish them success.
In order to help the unhappy ones, it is strongly suggested that they should change their bad habit and be pleased with what is pleasing, without worrying needlessly about themselves and the others. If they do it, it will be good for both themselves and the others, and bright life will definitely smile at them some day.

My name is Clara. I still remember that chilly December day, sitting in science class. I’d finished a worksheet early and picked up a TIME for Kids magazine. A piece of news caught my eye: NASA was holding an essay contest to name its Mars rover(火星探测器).Before I even knew anything else about it, a single word flooded my 11-year-old mind, Curiosity.
I couldn’t want for the bell to ring so I could get started on my essay. That afternoon, I raced home, sat down at the computer, and typed until my fingers ached. “Curiosity is an everlasting flame that burns in everyone’s mind...”
Five months later, my mom received a phone call, and immediately, a wide smile spread across her face.
On August 5,2012,at 10:31 p.m, the rover named Curiosity touched down safely on the surface of Mars, and I was honored to have a front-row seat in NASA.
Curiosity is such an important part of who I am. I have always been fascinated by the stars, the planets, the sky and the universe. I remember as a little girl, my grandmother and I would sit together in the backyard for hours. She’d tell me stories and point out the stars, Grandma lived in China, thousands of miles away from my home in Kansas, but the stars kept us together even when we were apart. They were always there, yet there was so much I didn’t know about them. That’s what I love so much about space.
People often ask me why we go to faraway places like Mares. My answer is simple because we’re curious. We human beings do not just hole up in one place. We are constantly wondering and trying to find out what’s over the hill and beyond the horizon.

[1]Everyone has dreams. Usually they obey the rule that if you can dream it, you can achieve it!If you want to obtain a perfect life in the future, there are always some goals.
[2]The first goal common to all of us is health and energy. We all want to be healthy and fit, to have high levels of energy and to live free of pain and illness. Today, with the incredible advance in medical science, the quality of our health and fitness, and our lifespan is largely determined by design, not by chance. People with excellent health habits are far healthier, have more energy, and live longer and better than people who have poor health habits. Remember that health is not everything, but without health everything is nothing!
[3]The second goal that we all have in common is to enjoy excellent relationships—personal or social—with the people we like and respect, and who in turn. Fully 85% of your happiness will be determined by the quality of your relationships at each stage, and in each area of your life. How well you get along with people, and how much they like and respect you, have more impact on the quality of your life than perhaps any other factor.
[4]The third common goal is to do work that we enjoy, to do it well, and to be well paid for it. You want to be able to get and keep the job you want, to get paid more and promoted faster. You want to earn the very most that is possible for you at each stage of your career, no matter what you are engaged in.
[5]The fourth goal we all have in common is to achieve financial independence. You want to reach the point in life where you have enough money so that you never have any financial worries. You want to be completely free of them. You want to be able to order dinner in a restaurant without referring to the price listings to determine what you want to eat.

Not long ago, people thought babies were notable to learn things until they were five or six months old.Yet doctors in the United States say babies begin learning on their first day of life.
Scientists note that babies are strongly influenced by their environment. They say a baby will smile if her mother does something the baby likes.A baby learns to get the best care possible by smiling to please her mother or other caregiver. This is how babies learn to connect and communicate with other human beings.
One study shows that babies can learn before they are born. The researchers placed a tape recorder on the stomach of a pregnant woman. Then, they played a recording of a short story. On the day the baby was born, the researchers attempted to find if he knew the sounds of the story repeated while in his mother. They did this by placing a device in the mouth of the newborn baby.
The baby would hear the story if he moved his mouth one way.If the baby moved his mouth the other way, he would hear a different story. The researchers say the baby clearly liked the story he heard before he was born. They say the baby would move his mouth so he could hear the story again and again.
Another study shows how mothers can strongly influence social development and language skills in their children.
Researchers studied the children from the age of one month to three years. The researchers attempted to measure the sensitivity of the mothers. The women were considered sensitive if they supported their children’s activities and did not interfere unnecessarily. They tested the children for thinking and language development when they were three years old. Also, the researchers observed the women for signs of depression.
The children of depressed women did not do as well in tests as the children of women who did not suffer from depression. The children of depressed women did poorly in tests of language skills and understanding what they hear.
These children also were less cooperative and had more problems dealing with other people. The researchers noted that the sensitivity of the mothers was important to the intelligence development of their children.Children did better when their mothers were caring, even when they suffered from depression.

D. R. Gaul Middle School is in Union, Maine, a blueberry-farming town where the summer fair finds kids competing in pig scrambles(争夺) and pie-eating contests.
Gaul, with about 170 seventh- and eighth-graders, has its own history of lower level academic achievement. One likely reason: Education beyond the basic requirements hasn't always been a top priority(优先) for families who've worked the same land for generations. Here, few adults have college degrees, and outsiders(局外人) (teachers included) are often kept at a respectful distance.
Since 2002, Gaul's students have been divided into four classes, each of them taught almost every subject by two teachers. The goal: To find common threads across disciplines to help students create a big picture that gives fresh meaning and context to their class work -- and sparks(激发) motivation for learning.
Working within state guidelines, each team makes its individual schedules and lesson plans, incorporating non-textbook literature, hands-on lab work and field trips. If students are covering the Civil War in social studies, they're reading The Red Badge of Courage or some other period literature in English class. In science, they study the viruses and bacteria that caused many deaths in the war.
Team teaching isn't unusual. About 77 percent of middle schools now employ some form of it, says John Lounsbury, consulting editor for the National Middle School Association. But most schools use four- or five-person teams, which Gaul tried before considering two-person teams more effective. Gaul supports the team concept by "looping" classes (跟班) so that the same two teachers stick with the same teens through seventh and eighth grades. Combining teams and looping creates an extremely strong bond between teacher and student. It also, says teacher Beth Ahlholm, "allows us to build an excellent relationship with parents."
Ahlholm and teammate Madelon Kelly are fully aware how many glazed looks they see in the classroom, but they know 72 percent of their eighth-graders met Maine's reading standard last year -- double the statewide average. Only 31 percent met the math standard, still better than the state average (21 percent). Their students also beat the state average in writing and science. And in2006, Gaul was one of 47 schools in the state to see testing gains of at least 20 percent in four of the previous five years, coinciding roughly with team teaching's arrival.

Researchers found that women are overcome by a burning desire to share gossip(流言蜚语)as soon as they hear it. They will typically tell the secret to at least one other person in 47 hours. Depending on who the gossip is about, their boyfriend, husband, best friend or mother is most likely to be the recipients(接受者)of the information.
The study of 3,000 women aged between 18 and 65 also found that. four out of ten admitted they were unable to keep a secret—no matter how personal or secret the news was. It was also found that alcohol usually gives us a helping hand to let out secrets—with more than half admitting a glass or two of wine could get them to dish the dirt.
Michael Cox, UK Director of Wines of Chile, said, “It’s official that women can’t keep secrets. We are really eager to find out with this survey how many secrets people are told. What we don’t count on(指望)is how quickly these are passed on by those we trust. No matter how precious the piece of information is, it often comes out within 48 hours.”
Three quarters say they are able to keep quiet about a secret, and 83 percent consider themselves 100 percent reliable within each group of friends. Yet, four in ten admit to gossiping to a close friend from another friendship group. Nearly half(45 percent)disclose secrets just for the weight to be lifted from their shoulders. More than four in ten think it is acceptable to share a friend’s secret with someone who doesn’t know him or her.
Private issues, true cost of purchases and affairs emerged top of the secret-keeping list, with girls most likely to share a secret chatting face-to-face, on the phone or via a text message. Fortunately, over a quarter(27 percent)said they forgot what they were told the following day.

[1]Five years ago, David Smith wore an expensive suit to work every day. “I was a clothes addict”. He jokes. “I used to carry a fresh suit to work with me so I could change if my clothes got wrinkled”. Today David wears casual clothes—khaki pants and sports shirt to the office. He hardly ever wears a necktie. “I’m working harder than ever”. David says, “And I need to feel comfortable”.
[ 2 ]More and more companies are allowing their office workers to in the United States. The change from formal to casual office wear has been gradual. In the early 1990s, many companies allowed their employees to wear casual clothes on Friday. This became known as “dress-down Friday” or “casual Friday”. “What started out as an extra one-day-a-week benefit for employees has really become an everyday thing.” said business consultant Maisly Jones.
[ 3 ]Why have so many companies started allowing their employees to wear casual clothes? One reason is that it’s easier for a company to attract new employees if it has a casual dress code. “Many young people don’t want to dress up for work”, says the owner of a software company, “So it’s hard to hire people if you have a conservative dress code”. Another reason is that people seem happier and more productive when they are wearing comfortable clothes. In a study 85 percent of employers said that they believe that casual dress improves employees’ motivation. Only 4 percent of employers said that casual dress has a negative influence on productivity. Supporters of casual office wear also argue that a casual dress code helps them save money. “Suits are expensive, if you have to wear one every day”, one person said, “For the same amount of money, you can buy a lot more casual clothes”.

Gao Xiaosong was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. His grandfather was headmaster of the famous Tsinghua University. His wife’s father graduated from the Imperial College London and founded Shenzhen University. He basically grew up on Tsinghua's campus, and studied in the top schools in China, before he, unsurprisingly, entered Tsinghua's electronic engineering department, one of the school's best majors.
He wrote On the Same Page as You are at age 24. Almost overnight, every young person knew the song by heart. That tune and his later works made him a household name in the country. He later became a judge on the hot variety show (综艺节目) China's Got Talent.
Everything has gone right for him aside from one major bump in the road—he was arrested for drunken driving in 2011, after he left the first press conference for his film, My Kingdom.
"For me, the six months was not only a result of the trial but also an atonement,(赎罪)" he says. "Six months is like a leaf falling from the tree of life—no big deal. I was a spoiled person in many ways before 40. So, maybe it was an opportunity to pay for my wildness and arrogance(傲慢) in my youth." The hardest thing for him in prison wasn't sleeping between a thief and a bad man but missing his daughter's development from ages 3.5–4.
Gao has become even busier after getting out of prison for drunken driving. A tour concert of his songs is going around the country, while Morning Talk airs weekly. He is searching for new vocal talent for a music company, and his next film is in progress. But he knows clearly what he wants from life—he plans to focus on music until he turns 60, after which he'll focus on writing and film directing. "You can never write pop music at 60," he says. "I don't complain about that. But you can always write a good book or direct a good film, no matter how old you are."

Babies, especially newborns, have the smoothest and most sensitive skin, and react to almost everything that touches them. This is why we have to be sure that whatever they come into contact with doesn’t have any bad effect on their skin.
Organic (有机的) newborn clothes are gaining popularity these days for being made from organic, non-synthetic (合成的) materials produced without pesticides (农药) or fertilizers(化肥).
Organic clothes are produced from organically-grown cotton on fields. We want only what is best for our babies, and organic clothes for newborns can help protect them from being exposed to the poisonous substances sometimes present in the clothes we normally wear. We don’t want our babies to get rashes (皮疹) just because we weren’t wise enough when buying their clothes!
What else do they offer? They wash more easily than ordinary clothes, giving better value for money in the long run. Ordinary clothes cost less, but the material they are made from is subject to frequent wear and tear even before it is made into clothes. In the long run, then, organic clothes are not only better for your child, but also more cost-effective, and remain fresh and in good repair after many years of use.
You may think that organic clothes must be dull and lifeless; nothing could be further from the truth. Modern techniques enable these clothes to be designed in attractive and brilliant colors with adorable patterns. Your clothes are not only safe, but beautiful as well!

When young people in the United States gather for fun, there is a good chance that they will soon be dancing. If there are no musicians, they will play records. If there are no records, some one is certain to have a radio. One way or another there will be dancing.
The ways that boys and girls dance will often change every year or two. You may hear them say that the very latest steps are “in,’ while last year’s step are ‘out.’ Each boy and girl takes pride in learning newest things. They feel that this is important to remaining popular with their friends.
Years ago the dances of young people were not very different from those of their parents, but high school and college students of today have created their own music and have invented their own dances, thanks to people like Chubby Checker, the Beatles, and Elvis Presley. These musicians helped to make popular an exciting new kind of music that people began to dance to in a different way.
In the late 1950s Chubby Checker started a dance that he called the “twist.” The twist, like so many new dances, was lively, and people who performed it used a lot of energy. The word chubby means “a little bit fat,” which is why this singer and dancer called himself Chubby.
After demonstrating his new dance hundreds of times, however, Chubby was no longer chubby. This is one of the advantages. Even if older people do not like the new dances, they must agree that people get much more exercise from modern dances than they ever got from a waltz.
