Last Saturday I went to the library as usually. At about noon, I was enjoying my reading near a lake while suddenly I hear someone crying for help. I went up to see what was happened I was shocking to find a little child struggling in the water in the distance while many peoples were standing by without doing anything. Without any hesitation, I had pushed through the crowd as I took off my coat, but jumped into the water quickly. I managed to reach him and carried him back to safety. To his great relief, the kid was saved.
I was proud what I had done. I hope everyone can give a hand when someone else is in need.

We can stay young forever. That is the message Dr. Shen Ziyin wants to give the world. And the Chinese doctor claims that he has found an answer to the problems of aging.
His solution is a herbal medicine to slow the process of aging.
Dr. Shen Ziyin has been trained in Western medicine. At the same time he studied traditional Chinese medicine. And, he has been working for the past forty years to put together the best of both and find a cure for aging. He has taken a hint from the ancient Chinese medicine system called “shen”.
According to Shen, it is the kidney(肾脏)which adjusts the functioning of the body as well as its aging process. It is responsible for the level of activity that the human bodies go through. Studies conducted by Dr. Shen show that herbal medicine based on the shen system slow the aging process, says a report in The Telegraph newspaper.
We notice that when people grow old, they have reduced strength, loss of hair, backache, weakness in general, and wrinkles, among others. This happens because when people grow old, their bodies produce T-cells. These T-cells contain a particular substance called Fas. Fas makes the cells in the body destruct themselves.
So the only way to slow down aging is to slow the production of T-cells in the body. This can happen if people eat low calorie food. Then the body is not active enough to produce extra T-cells. But, is going hungry all the time a good price to pay for staying young?
This is where Dr. Shen’s herbal medicine comes in. But how effective it will be, only time can tell.
How did Dr. Shen find the solution to the problem of aging?

A.By studying Western medicine.
B.By learning traditional Chinese medicine.
C.By combining both Western and Chinese medicine.
D.By doing research on both Western and Chinese people.

The reason why people become old is that _________.

A.their bodies produce T-cells
B.their bodies are unable to fight diseases
C.they have reduced strength, loss of hair
D.they become weaker and weaker

We can probably learn from the passage that _________.

A.producing more low calorie food allows people to keep young
B.the more Chinese herbal medicine people drink, the better for health
C.people should try to quicken the production of T-cells in the body
D.it remains unknown how effective Dr. Shen’s herbal medicine is

Today, people all over the world are moving out of small villages in the country to go and live in big, noisy cities. They are moving from the peaceful hills, mountains, fields, rivers and streams of the countryside to the busy world of streets, buildings, traffic and crowds. This movement from rural (乡下的) areas to urban areas has been going on for over two hundred years.
In many countries, the main reason people come to live in towns and cities is work. After one or two large factories have been built in or near a town, people come to find work, and soon an industrial area begins to grow. There is usually a residential area nearby, too. The families of these workers need schools, hospitals and shops, so many people come to live in the area to provide these services and a city grows.
In every major city in the world, there is a business district where the big companies have their main offices. In the United States, this area is usually in the city center downtown. It is here that you can see many huge skyscrapers (摩天大楼) and office blocks. The people who work here often travel a long way to work each day. Many of them live in the suburbs of the city, far away from the industrial area and the city center. Some suburbs are very pleasant, with nice houses and big gardens. There are usually parks for children to play in and large department stores where you can buy all you need.
But what is the future of the big cities? Will they continue to get bigger and bigger? Perhaps not. Some major cities have actually become smaller in the last ten years, and it is quite possible that one day we will see people moving out of the major cities and back into smaller towns and villages.
The underlined phrase “a residential area” means an area ________.

A.where people can buy things
B.which is near a city center
C.where people can do business
D.which is suitable for living in

Why do people move to live in cities or towns?

A.Because they can live more comfortably there.
B.Because they mainly want to find work there.
C.Because they are sure of having a better life there.
D.Because they like noisy life better than peaceful life.

What can we know about the business district?

A.Big companies usually have their main offices in the business district.
B.People usually work and live in the skyscrapers in the cities.
C.A business district usually lies not far away from the city center downtown.
D.It’s reasonable for a business district without a park for children to play in.

We can infer that this movement from rural to urban areas ________.

A.has been going on for more than 2,000 years
B.will surely continue in the future
C.may not continue in the future
D.has now stopped already

Do you want to live a happier, less stressful (有压力的) life?
Try laughing for no reason at all. That’s how thousands of people start their day at Laughter Clubs around the world – and many doctors now think that having a good laugh might be one of the best ways to stay healthy.
The first Laughter Club was started in Mumbai, India, in 1995 by Dr Madan Kataria. “Young children laugh about 300 times a day. Adults laugh between 7 and 15 times a day,” says Dr Kataria. “Everyone’s naturally good at laughing – it’s the universal language. We want people to feel happy with their lives.” There are now more than 500 Laughter Clubs in India and over 1,300 worldwide.
Many doctors are also interested in the effects (效果) of laughter on our health. According to a 5 – year study in the body. Laughter improves our health against illness by about 40%.
So, what happens at a Laughter Club? I went along to my nearest club in South London to find out. I was quite nervous at the beginning of the class, to be honest – I wasn’t interested in laughing with a group of strangers, and I was worried about looking stupid. Our laughter teacher told us to clap our hands and say “ho ho ho, ha ha ha,” while looking at each other. However, our bodies can’t tell the difference between fake laughter and real laughter, so they still produce the same healthy effects.
Surprisingly, it works! After ten minutes everybody in the room was laughing for real – and some people just couldn’t stop! At the end of the class I was surprised by how relaxed and comfortable I felt. So if you’re under stress, then start laughing. You might be very pleased with the results!
In which country was the first Laughter Club started?

A.Britain. B.America. C.Australia. D.India.

How did the writer feel at the beginning of the class?

A.Surprised. B.Pleased. C.Nervous. D.Stressful.

When did the people in the club begin to laugh for real?

A.After a few minutes. B.After a few hours.
C.After a few seconds. D.After a few days.

Which of the following is true according to the passage?

A.Fake laughter and real laughter are both good for health.
B.40% of the people in Laughter Clubs are good friends.
C.Adults laugh more often than children in a day.
D.Laughing is the best way to prevent illness.
