My friend Michelle is blind, but you’d never know it. She makes such good use of her other   36    , including her “sixth sense”, that she rarely gives the impression she’s   37  anything.
Michelle looks after her children pretty much like the rest of us,   38   that she doesn’t push too hard on them,   39   really benefit a lot from her relaxed attitude. She knows when to clean the house. She moves around so fast that often   40   don’t realize she’s blind.
I  41 this the first time after my six-year-old daughter, Kayla, went to play there. When Kayla came home, she was very   42 about her day. She told me they had baked cookies, played games and done art projects. But she was   43 excited about her finger-painting project.
“Mom, guess what?” said Kayla, all smiles. "I learned how to   44 colors today! Blue and red make purple, and yellow and blue make green! And Michelle   45   with us.
To my great   46    , my child had learnt about color from a blind friend!
Then Kayla continued, “Michelle told me my  47 showed joy, pride and a sense of accomplishment. She really   48    what I was doing!” Kayla said she had never felt how good finger paints felt   49   Michelle showed her how to paint without looking at her paper.
I realized Kayla didn’t know that Michelle was blind. It had just never   50  in conversation.
When I told her, she was   51   for a moment. At first, she didn’t believe me. “But Mommy, Michelle knew exactly what was in my picture!” Kayla   52  . And I knew my child was   53   because Michelle had listened to Kayla describe her artwork. Michelle had also heard Kayla's   54  in her work,
We were silent for a minute. Then Kayla said slowly, “You know, Mommy, Michelle really did ‘see’ my picture. She just used my   55  .”
Indeed, she uses a special type of “vision” that all mothers have.

We are warned by our teachers not to waste time because time 21 will never return. I think it quite 22. What does time look 23? Nobody knows, and we can’t see it or touch it and no 24 of money can buy it. Time is abstract(抽象的), so we have to  25about it.
Time passes very quickly. Some students say they don’t have 26time to review their lessons. It is 27 they don’t know how to make use of their time. They waste it in going to theatres or playing, and 28 other useless things. Why do we study everyday? Why do we work? Why do most people 29 take buses instead of walking? Britain and Ireland
The British Isles is made up of two large islands: One is called Ireland and the other __16  . Britain, or Great Britain, is the larger of these two islands, and it is17  into three parts: Scotland, Wales and England.
The United Kingdom is that 18   of the British Isles ruled over by the Queen. It is made up of Scotland, Wales and England, that is, the 19   of Britain, and also about one sixth of Ireland, the Northern part. The  20  of Ireland is self-governing. The 21  name of the United Kingdom is  22   “The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland”.
23  is larger and richer than Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and has the largest  24   of the United Kingdom, so people often use the 25  “England” and “English” when they  26   “Britain” and “British”. This sometimes makes the Scots and the Welsh a little 27  . The Scots in particular are very  28  of their separate nationality. The Welsh too do not regard   29  as English, and have a culture and even a   30 of their own.
Ireland became part of the United Kingdom in 1801, but for forty years the “Irish  31   ” was the greatest headache of the United Kingdom.  32  , Ireland is divided into two: Northern Ireland still  33 to the United Kingdom, and in 1922 the rest of Ireland   34   to found an Irish Free State, later called Eire and now the Republic of Ireland.
The Republic of Ireland does not regard itself as part of Britain, and is not now even a supporter of the Commonwealth of Nations (英联邦). Unlike the major Commonwealth countries it did not lift a finger to   35 British in the Second World War and now wants the whole of Ireland to be a republic.

Last weekends, my kids along with few other kids from the neighborhood volunteered to help me wash my car. My 10-year-old daughter came up with the idea of   31   other people’s cars as well. It was pretty   32   outside and I had no plans to   33   to be in the bright sun. She   34   wanted to give lemonade(柠檬汽水)to passersby for free. I had seen little kids  35   and sell fresh lemonade for a small cost but not free. Although I felt   36   , I decided to help her.  37  she asked me, “What if we   38   this a smile car wash?” I couldn’t hold back my tears and   39   her and the other kids to go outside the house and come up with   40   ideas. While I kept myself busy in drying the car, the gang walked up to me with a(n)   41   with beautiful images of smiles. They had “Free Car Wash” written on it and the   42  of their exercise was “smile”. It was pretty neat to see a team of kids ranging 5-11 years with the   43   to do something for others.
All that seemed   44   and came right from their heart. Nothing seemed to   45   to them: their playtime, the heat outside—they just wanted to   46   others and do something nice in the community!
I helped them make some fresh lemonade and brought out some additional   47   to help clean cars. The passersby were   48   and one even shouted back to them saying “God Bless You, my kids…” One of them even tried giving them 5 dollars, which they refused. A pretty heartwarming   49  ! During one of the toughest weeks of my life, I had the chance to experience surprising grace(善举).
I was in my office, when a young man came by. He was obviously very    36   and close to tears. He was an older student and always appeared like a tough guy,    37   showing emotion.

Tears clouded my eyes as I stood in our washing room, holding Brett’s jeans and full of burn holes.
Tired and defeated, I   31   to the floor. The clothes were just one more thing Brett had 32   . He often got almost everything in the house out of    33   . Many windows in our house needed repair due to his breaking   34   to steal money when he chose to live on the street. Yet none of this could compare to the emotional   35     Brett had done to our once quiet home.
Brett came to live with us when he was 12 years old. During the next few years I had dealt with Brett a   36   as possible, but inside I was shouting. “I don’t want him in my house another day, Lord! I just can’t   37   him!” Having wiped my tears, I continued   38   him as before.
When Brett was nearly 18, he landed again in Juvenile Hall(少管所). After that, my husband and I had to send Brett to a boarding school for helping   39   teens.
At the   40   ceremony, each graduate held a white rose to give to the person who had  41   the most to him or her. Brett spoke   42   to his parents and then spoke to me, “You did so much. You were always there, no matter   43   . My mom and dad, I was their kid. But you,  44    troubled enough by me, always   45   me such love. And I want you to know I love you for it.”
46   , I stood as Brett placed the white rose in my hand and hugged me   47   .
At that moment, tears   48  in my eyes again, this time not for disappointment but for   49  . Although I had struggled with silent   50   toward my stepson, Brett had seen only my actions. Recently, I experienced a wonderful lesson in how little things still mean a lot. My home is on the Big Island of Hawaii. About a month ago, when I   36   my car and was about to drive off, I
37   at the roadside. A piece of paper   38   my eye. I picked it up and read it   39  . Instantly, I was grateful that I had done that.
The form turned out to be a receipt from the State Motor Vehicle Division, documenting the owners’   40   of their Vehicle’s Registration fees. Quickly, I put myself in their shoes and  __41  : no one would throw this away, especially   42   it was current. I also looked over the form for contact or any personal   43  , perhaps a license tag or telephone number. But that seemed __44  . So I checked the date and   46   the names of the owners , who must  47  in our town. Without it they would have to   54   another 8,000. It felt great to know I’d helped someone avoid a major trouble by doing   55   that at first glance seemed minor.

Please allow me to tell you something before you  read this book. When my   36  ,Sam, was born, my heart was filled with joy. I had been sitting in a wheelchair for 20 years before then, and I have been  37  ill many times. So I wonderfuled if would  have the   38  to tell Sam what I had   39  .
For years I have been hosting a program on the   40 and writing  articles for a magazine.Being  41  to move freely,I have learned to sit still and keep my heart   42  , exchanging thoughts with thousands of listeners and   43  . So when Sam was born ,I  44 to tell him about school and friendship,Romance and work,Love and everything else. That’s how I started  to write these  45  . I hoped  that Sam would   46  them  sooner or later.
However, that expedition  47  when  Sam showed signs of autism(自闭症)at the age of two.He had actually  stopped talking before the discovery of the signs. He  48  to communicate with others, even the family members. That was  49  for me but didn’t stop me writing on.I realized that I had even  50  now to tell him.I wanted him to  51  what it means to be “different ”from others, and learn  how to fight  against  the misfortune  he’ll  52  as I myself, his grandfather, did. I just  53 if  I could write all  that I wanted  to say in the rest of my life.
Now, 54  the book has been published,I have been given the chance.Every chapter in the book is a  letter to Sam:some about my life, and all about what it means to be a  55  .

I met them several times as I moved   42   the various rooms of art. Each time I heard her continuous flow of words, I moved away   43  .
I was standing at the counter of the museum gift shop making a   44   when the couple approached the   45  . Before they left, the man   46   into his pocket and pulled out a white object. He   47   it into a long stick and then   48   his way into the coatroom to get his wife’s jacket.

“Can’t see! You’re   51  . He sees a lot. More than you and I do,” the clerk said. “His wife   52   each painting so he can see it in his head.”
I learned something about patience,   53   and love that day. And I saw the love shared by two people as I watched this couple walk away, their arms intertwined.
