The Winner’s Guide to Success
How do successful people think? What helps them to make success? To find out the answers, an American scholar recently visited some of the most successful people in America.
Be responsible for yourself
Sometimes you may want to blame others for your failure to get ahead.       You’re saying, “You have more control over my life than I do.”
Live life “on purpose”
Almost all successful people live life “on purpose”— they are doing what they believe they should and want to do. When you live your life on purpose, you’ll try your best to do your job or study as well as you can. You love what you do and you can find pleasure in what you do.
Write a plan
It is very difficult trying to get what you want without a good plan.       A good plan is like a map to you. Without this “map”, you may waste your time, money and also your energy; while with the “map” you’ll enjoy the “trip” and get what you want in the shortest possible time.
Be willing to pay the price
Nothing great is easy to get. So you must be ready to work hard — even harder than you have ever done. If you are not willing to pay the price, you won’t get anything valuable.
Never give up
When you are doing something, you must tell yourself again and again: Giving up is worse than failure because failure can be the mother of success, but giving up means the death of hope.

Once an American writer was writing a novel. He could not have a good ending for his book until one night when he had a very good idea. He was so excited that he made a phone call to one of his best friends. “I’ve got a perfect idea,” he said, “I’ll put it down later and show it to you.” But he never did, because he died that night. His book was left without a perfect ending. So remember, do what you can right away. Never delay at all.

A.It is just like trying to drive through strange roads to a city far away.
B.It seems to us that everyone knows this. But it is easier said than done.
C.Some people achieve success much later in life because they fail to realize earlier the importance of hard work.
D.In fact, when you say someone or something outside of yourself is stopping you from making success, you’re giving away your own power.

E. Someone else’s opinion of you doesn’t have to become your reality.
F. Don’t delay
G. Here are some keys to success that they give.

How do you stay true to yourself when you’re surrounded by friends and/or family that have an opinion on everything you do? It’s not easy!     Here are 4 tips which can help you live a dynamic life.

Stay true to yourself by listening to the only opinions that really matter-your own and those from people who believe in and encourage you. Deep down you know yourself better than anybody else.
Don't fear people
The reason most people don’t take risks, or live on the edge is the fear of what others might think of them. If you want to live the life you truly deserve, you must give up the need to be liked by everybody.
Value yourself and your choices
When you do, others will too. Own the choices you make in your life.      When you believe in yourself, in time, others will believe in you too. Show confidence in your choices, and what you stand for whether others agree or not.
Focus on appreciation
No matter what the circumstances are, there is always something to be grateful for. All successful people ask, “What am I grateful for ? How can I improve my situation and use these tough times to inspire others?”
These steps, if applied, will help you transform your peace of mind, lifestyle, and productivity.

A.Concentrate on your own talents and strengths.
B.Never let others’ opinions guide your choices.
C.Treat every person like they are important.
D.When you doubt yourself, others will doubt you.

E. Stay fearless in everything you will have to do.
F. Be thankful to life and be helpful to others, and you’ll lead a successful life.
G. However, there are great possibilities that you can lead the life you really want.

Before going outside in the morning, many of us check a window thermometer for the temperature. This helps us decide what to wear. ____. We want our food to be a certain coldness in the refrigerator. We want it a certain hotness in the oven. If we don’t feel well, we use a thermometer to see if we have a fever. We keep our rooms a certain warmth in the winter and a certain coolness in the summer.
Not all the thermometers use the same system to measure temperature. We use a system called the Fahrenheit scale. But most other countries use the Centigrade scale.
Both systems use the freezing and boiling points of water as their guide. ____ .
The most common kind of thermometer is made with mercury(水银)inside a clear glass tube. As mercury (or any other liquid ) becomes hot, it expands. As it gets colder, it contracts(收缩). That is why on hot days the mercury line is high in the glass tube. ______.
First. Take a clear glass juice bottle that has a cap ; fill the bottle with coloured water. Tap a hole in the center of the cap using a hammer and thick nail. Put the cap on the jar. Then stick a plastic straw(吸管) through the nail hole. _____. Finally. Place a white card on the outside of the bottle and behind the straw. Now you can see the water lever easily. ____. As the temperature goes down, the water will contract, and the lever in the straw will come down. Perhaps you will want to keep a record of the water lever in the straw each morning for a week.

A.We use and depend on thermometers to measure the temperature of many other things in our daily lives.
B.Thermometers measure temperature, by using materials that change in the same way when they are heated or cooled.
C.Now that you know this rule you can make a thermometer of your own that will work.
D.The water will rise in the straw. As the temperature of the air goes up, the water will expand and rise even higher.

E.They label these in different ways. On the Fahrenheit scale water freezes at 32 degrees and boils at 212 degrees. On the Celsius scale water freezes at 0 degrees and boils at 100 degrees.
F.Take wax (you may use an old candle if you have one) and melt some of it right where the straw is struck into the cap to seal(把......粘住) them together.

An increase in cyber-attacks and identity theft make the Internet seem like a scary place these days.
Last week, there were reports of a billion dollar theft from European banks and secret viruses on millions of computer systems across Russia, China, India, Iran and elsewhere. This raises a question: How can individuals protect or make it more difficult for hackers to access their information?
________________
Hard passwords include upper and lower case letters, numbers and special characters. They should be at least eight characters in length. They should also not spell out words easy for hackers to find, like your pet's name or the name of a family member.
_______________
A very common mistake made by users is to create one hard password, but then never change it. Remembering a long list of complicated passwords can be difficult. But no password is unbreakable. Hackers are better able hack multiple accounts if those accounts all have the same password. A password management service, like Dashlane or PasswordBox, can help you keep track of hard passwords. These services permit users to easily store and secure their passwords.
_______________
This goes for all the devices you use in a day–your home computer, your work computer, or your friend's iPad. Internet browsers like Firefox or Chrome keep track of where you've been and what you've done online. They keep records of every site you visited. Information about what you sent from or saved on your computer can be kept for days or weeks. It is very easy for anyone who sees that information to steal a detailed record of your online activities.
_______________
An increasing number of public places now offer free wireless access to the Internet. Often, a user does not need a password to connect to these wireless networks. These services might be useful, but they're also an easy way for hackers to access everything on your device. Unless you really need it, it is best not to use it.
________________
One of the most popular and successful ways hackers infect your computer is through a technique called phishing. Phishing occurs when someone opens an email attachment that looks real. But the attachment is actually a virus that immediately infects the user's computer. If someone sends you a file or a website you did not ask for, it is best to not click on it.

请从以下选项(A、B、C、D、E和F)中选出适合各段落的首句,并在答题纸上将相应选项的标号涂黑。选项中有一项是多余选项。
A. Try different new things.
B. Avoid “black and white thinking”.
C. Associate with optimistic people.
D. Make a plan to stop thinking negatively.
E. Understand the benefits of staying positive.
F. Adopt the motto “everything happens for a reason”.
Develop a positive attitude towards life
When you are going through a challenging time, people will just instruct you to think positively. More often than not, thinking positively proves a strategy for interpreting everything that happens to you in a useful, constructive way. If you want to know how to think more positively, just follow these tips.
_____________. Choosing to think more positively will not only help you take control of your life and make your everyday experiences more pleasant, but it will have countless benefits on your mental and physical health as well as your ability to deal with change. Being aware of these benefits can help you be even more motivated to think positively on a regular basis. One of the most important benefits of positive thinking is that you are more likely to have better coping skills during times of stress.
_____________. Don’t think everything you are faced with either is or it isn’t. In fact, there is what we call the shades of gray in life. Therefore, if something doesn’t turn out the way you want it to, make a list of all of the outcomes in between to see that things aren’t as serious as they seem. For example, if you get a late start on a paper and think you shouldn’t bother because you won’t finish it in time, consider the other possibilities. You could finish half the paper and still get a better grade than if you don’t turn it in.
_____________.That means deciding to overcome the negativity that is going on around you –– and there will always be plenty of it. Think of what you can do today that is good for you and others. Decide how you will react in ways that will make a difference to your life. Don't let other people ruin your plan. People will often make things seem more important or worrisome than they really are. Making a plan to be more positive will already be a move in the right direction. This will help you to stay positive because you will feel a greater sense of control over your life and your choices.
_____________. Experiencing a wide variety of life will do wonders. Stepping out of your comfort zone can often take you by surprise and knock those negative thoughts or black and white thoughts right back into their cave. Something as simple as trying a new food in a restaurant can lead to the discovery of new tastes and different feelings, along with the release of negative impressions. Visiting a new town, city, or country and see how other people view the world can help put a positive spin on your life.
_____________. Optimism is infectious. If you want to be infected by optimism, you should spend time with people who can provide something of value. Look for the positives in other people too –– finding what is good in people. Learn to praise people around you. Connect with people who have many passions and want to share them with you. Avoid seeing anyone with a negative outlook, unless you really care about that person and want to change their thoughts. If you tend to think negatively, you’ll be falling into a trap.

Around the world there is an increase in the demand for reforestation. This is because the consumption of the forests has affected not only the animals living in the area but also the people. And reforestation is about the rebuilding of the forests that have been severely destroyed. It can offer a lot of benefits when the recreation is successful.
This includes collecting seedlings(幼苗) that are native in the area to make sure that there is a natural reconstruction of the area. Some additional trees which are not native in the area also need to be planted.
The importance of having multiple species of trees is considered to make sure that the needs of other species that will live and grow in the area are met.
Destroying a forest is easy but rebuilding it is really hard.
The plan must include accurate spacing on plants and trees. This is to ensure that they won’t cover each other while they grow.

It is there for a reason just like everyone else on this planet.

A.And global warming will speed up the destruction of forests.
B.Keep in mind that you can’t just plant the seedlings anywhere.
C.Recreations won’t work until all these details have been considered.

E. Chapter Five. …Always warm up and stretch for 5-10 minutes before you do strength or endurance exercises. Afterwards, take 10 minutes to cool down. Your heart should beat normally when you stop. Exercising with a group may help you to exercise regularly.
