Most drinks stating that they are fruit-flavored (水果味道的) contain no fruit at all, while most of the rest contain only a small quantity of fruit, according to a study carried by the British Food Commission.
“Shoppers need to check the labels (标签) before buying drinks, though sometimes the actual content can be non-existent,” said Food Commission spokesperson Ian Tokelove. “Food production is highly competitive.   It will increase profits, and consumers won’t always realize they are being tricked.”
Flavorings(调味品,调料) are focused on the flavors of natural food products such as fruits, meats and vegetables, or creating flavor for food products that do not have the desired flavors. Researchers analyzed the contents of 28 strawberry-flavored products sold in stores.   Of the 11 products that did contain strawberries, five of them contained less than one percent real fruit. In addition, each juice box contained nearly eight teaspoons of sugar.
Let’s take jam as an example. Some strawberry-flavored jam was labeled as containing no artificial colors, flavors, or sweeteners, but it contained absolutely no strawberries at all.
Consumers have the rights to know clearly about what they have bought. Under current UK law, food packages do not have to distinguish between natural and artificial flavoring. “Describing a product as strawberry flavor and covering the surface of the packet with pictures of strawberries is misleading.  Unfortunately, it is also legal and widespread,” Tokelove said. “It’s time to take measures to protect the consumers’ rights.”

A.They found that about 60 percent of them didn’t contain any fruit at all.
B.It is important and necessary to demand a small amount of flavoring in the products.
C.The products which contain real fruit are popular with people.
D.The Food Commission suggested all flavors used in a product should be listed on the packaging.

E. Even products advertised as more natural often contained no fruit.
F. Actually the product contains just a tiny percentage of strawberry or even no fruit at all.
G. If companies can cut their costs by using flavoring, they are likely to do so.

Before going outside in the morning, many of us check a window thermometer(温度计)for the temperature. This helps us decide what to wear.____. We want our food to be a certain coldness in the refrigerator. We want it a certain hotness in the oven. If we don’t feel well, we use a thermometer to see if we have a fever. We keep our rooms a certain warmth in the winter and a certain coolness in the summer.

Everybody gets stressed from time to time.      Some ways of dealing with stress—like screaming or hitting someone—don’t solve much. But other ways, like talking to someone you trust, can lead you to solving your problem or at least feeling better.
Try taking these four steps the next time you are stressed:
(1) Get support. When you need help, reach out to the people who care about you. Talk to a trusted adult, such as a parent or other relatives.         They might have had similar problems, such as dealing with a test, or the death of a beloved pet.
(2) Don’t take it out on yourself. Sometimes when kids are stressed and upset they take it out on themselves. Oh, dear, that’s not a good idea. Remember that there are always people to help you. Don’t take it out on yourself.
(3) Try to solve the problem. After you’re calm and you have support from adults and friends, it’s time to get down to business.        Even if you can’t solve it all, you can solve a piece of it.
(4) Be positive. Most stress is temporary (暂时的). Remember stress does go away, especially when you figure out the problem and start working on solving it.
These steps aren’t magic, but they do work. And if you can stay positive as you make
your way through a tough time, you’ll help yourself feel better even faster.

A.Ask for a helping hand to get you through the tough situation.
B.Notice your friends’ feelings and find a way to help them.
C.Different people get rid of stress in different ways.
D.Ah, it feels so good when the stress is gone.

E. You need to figure out what the problem is.
F. And don’t forget about your friends.
G. Then, find a way to calm down.

Smiling is a great way to make yourself stand out while helping your body to function better. Smile to improve your health, your stress level, and your attractiveness.

We are drawn to people who smile. There is an attraction factor. We want to know a smiling person and figure out what is so good because anxieties can push people away, but a smile draws them in.
Smiling Changes Our Mood
Next time you are feeling down, try putting on a smile.    Smiling can trick the body into helping you change your mood.
Smiling Relieves Stress
Stress can really show up in our faces. Smiling helps to prevent us from looking tired or worn down.   The stress should be reduced and you'll be better able to take action.
Smiling lowers your blood pressure.
When you smile, there is a measurable reduction in your blood pressure. Give it a try if you have a blood pressure monitor (血压计) at home. Sit for a few minutes and take a reading. Then smile for a minute and read it again while still smiling.
Smiling lifts the face and makes you look younger.
The muscles we use to smile lift the face, making a person appear younger. Don't go for a face lift, just try smiling your way through the day --- you'll look younger and feel better.

Try this test: Smile. Now try to think of something negative without losing the smile. It's hard. When we smile, our body is sending the rest of us a message that “Life is good!"

A.Smiling helps you stay positive.
B.Smiling makes us attractive.
C.Do you notice the difference?
D.Smiling can bring you luck and sorrow.

E. When you are stressed, take time to put on a smile.
F. There's a good chance that your mood will change for the better.

下面文章中有5个段落需要添加首句。请从以下选项(A、B、C、D、E和F)中选出适合各段落的首句,并在答题纸上将相应选项的标号涂黑。选项中有一项是多余选项。
A.  Be a good listener.                       B.  Care about the details.
C.  Strike up a conversation.                   D.  Make time for friendships.
E.  Reach out to the newcomers.               F.  Avoid causing inconveniences
Develop Better Relationships with Neighbors
Good neighbors are a lot like electricity or running water:we don’t know how much we depend on them until we don’t have them. They make our lives more pleasant and give us a sense of who we wrte, both as an individual and as a member of the community. Here is how to develop your relationships with these very important people in your life.
_________ Often neighbors don’t even know each other’s names. But it’s okay to be the one to break the ice , even if you’ve lived next door for years. Most neighbors enjoy making small talk with the folks on the other side of the fence. So as you see them at work in their yards, smile, wave, and say hello. Ask how their kids are (whether they’re babies or in college), whether they could use an extra cucumber from your garden, or what they think of the price at the local supermarket.
_________ These days, the old Welcome Wagon is a thing of the past. But your new neighbors may be feeling lonely and unsure, especially if they’re far from home, and might appreciate a friendly face bearing fresh-baked chocolate cakes. If they have kids, tell them where the children in the neighborhood live. Recommend the best places to eat and sleep. Invite them over for coffee or tea when they get settled, give them your number, and point to your house as you say good-bye.
__________ Return anything that you borrow from a neighbor, such as tools, in good repair and as soon as you’ve finished with them. Replace anything that belongs to your neighbor that you, your children, or your pets break or soil. Make sure that your car is not blocking their doorway. Such random acts of consideration will have your neighbors talking — and the talk will be good.
__________  If you value a friendship with your neighbors, spend time with them. What better way to meet your neighbors than to invite them to an informal barbecue, pool party, or holiday open house? Better yet, you might even consider throwing a get-together in their honor. Deliver the invitations in person to everyone who lives on your street and chat with each for five minutes before moving on to the next house. This way, you will get an idea of what your neighbors are like so that you can plan for appropriate food and music.
___________ In a good relationship, it’s really the little things that count. Help to bring in the mail for the elderly neighbor when there is a heavy rain. When your neighbor gorgets to take in his rubbish cans, roll them back into his yard. If you’re truly concerned, you’ll know when your neighbor needs some cheering up — a bunch of flowers or a helping hand when it’s needed. All it takes to develop  your relationship with neighbors is the respect for their feelings.

A 7.0 magnitude(级)earthquake killed more than 230,000 people in Haiti. Then an 8.8 magnitude quake killed more than 900 people in Chile. And few weeks later, a 6.0 magnitude quake struck rural eastern Turkey, killing at least 57 people.
The earthquakes kept coming hard and fast.   It’s not.The problem is what’s happening above ground, not underground, experts say.
They’re rapidly putting up buildings that can’t stand up to earth quakes, scientists believe.
And news reports and better earthquake monitoring make it seem as if earth quakes are increasing all the time.
On average, there are 134 earthquakes a year that have a magnitude between 6.0 and 6.9.So far this year there have been 40 earthquakes—more than in most years for that time period. But that’s because the 8.8 quake in Chile caused a large number of strong aftershocks.
Also, it’s not the number of quakes, but their destructive effects that gain attention. The death is largely due to building standards,     Paul Earle, a US seismologist, called for better building standards in the world’s big cities.
Of the 130 cities worldwide with populations of more than I million, more than half are likely to be hit by earthquakes.  “If you have a problem feeding yourself, you’re not really going to worry about earthquakes,” said Paul.
The earthquakes made everyone start to think   “People are paying attention to the violent planet we’re always living on.Come back an another six months if there has been no earthquakes, most people will have forgotten it again,” said US disaster researcher Dennis Mileti.

A.But it won’t last.
B.More people are moving into big cities.
C.Earthquakes don’t kill people, buildings do.
D.There have been more deaths overt the past decade from earthquakes.

E.Many people began to wonder if something terrible is happening underground.
F.While it seems as if the are more earthquakes occurring, there really aren’t.
G.But developing nations with growing populations don’t pay attention to earthquake preparedness.
