A lack of self-respect can prevent you from fulfilling your potential and developing healthy relationships. Here are some steps to help you know how to respect yourself.
__________  The  qualities  that  we  respect  vary  from  person  to  person,  and  the  way  we express it varies from culture to culture. Generally, we respect people who have more experience and are more accomplished  than ourselves. But  there  is  also a basic  level of  respect  that most people will  agree  is  a  right,  and  does  not  need  to be  earned. So  think  about what  it means  to respect others. Here are some widely agreed-upon signals of respect: You don’t steal from, harm, or  insult  them; you are honest with  them; you  listen  to what  they say, consider  their opinions, and avoid interrupting them.
__________ We  often  do  things  for  ourselves  that  we  would  never  dream  of  doing  for someone we care about. Whatever you believe to be respectful, apply it to yourself. Don’t harm yourself. Don’t insult yourself. Don’t steal from yourself. Be honest with yourself. Develop your own opinions and don’t be afraid to stand by them.
__________ A person with self-respect doesn’t allow others to treat them badly, and would rather not be around someone who is disrespectful. This might seem obvious, but there are many times when we accept being  treated badly. When someone doesn’t give you basic  respect, you need to be able to say, in one way or another, “You just disrespected me and that’s not acceptable!
If you don’t respect me, I won’t spend time with you any more.” Can you say that, and mean it?
Can you turn your back on someone who’s clearly shown that they don’t respect you? Once you do, you’ll feel your sense of self-respect go up.
__________ When you make an effort to keep your body in good working order, you’ll not only feel better physically, but also  feel a sense of pride. Respecting your body also means not insulting it for what it is, naturally. Make an effort to get fit and stay healthy. Focus on the things you can change and improve, and do them because it feels good.
__________ The more  you  know  about  yourself,  the more  you’ll  see  and  appreciate  how unique you  really are. And you’ll  respect yourself more. Discover your principles, personality, and  talents. Stop waiting  for other people’s approval and start developing your own standards. Develop a unique and original way of expressing your opinions while at the same time being a good listener.

A.Get to know yourself.
B.Take care of your body.
C.Practice basic respect towards yourself.
D.Be honest with yourself and with others.

E. Think about what it means to respect someone.
F. Recognize when people disrespect you and take steps to stop it.

There is distinction between reading for information and reading for understanding. __
The first sense is the one in which we read newspapers, magazines, or anything else.   Such materials may increase our store of information, but they cannot improve our understanding. And clearly we don’t have any difficulty in gaining the new information, for our understanding was equal to them before we started. Otherwise, we would have felt the shock of puzzlement.
The second sense is the one in which we read something that at first we do not completely understand. Here the thing to be read is at the first sight better or higher than the reader. The writer is communicating something that can increase the reader’s understanding. Otherwise one person could never learn from another. Here “learning” means understanding more, not remembering more information.
What are the conditions in this kind of reading? First, there is inequality in understanding    Besides, his book must convey something he possesses and his potential readers lack. Second, the reader must be able to overcome this inequality in some degree. And he should always try to reach the same level of understanding with the writer. If the equality is approached, success of communication is achieved.
It is the least demanding and requires the least amount of effort. Everyone who knows how to read can read for entertainment if he wants to. In fact, any book that can be read for understanding or information can probably be read for entertainment as well.

A.Thus, we can employ the word “reading” in two distinct senses.
B.Such communication between unequals must be possible.
C.We can get access to the content of those materials easily.
D.The writer must be “superior” to the reader in understanding.

E.The writer should have a better communicating skill.
F.Besides gaining information and understanding, there’s another goal of reading—entertainment.
G.Reading for entertainment is capable of increasing our understanding for information.

We are all called upon to make a speech at some point in life, but most of us don’t do a very good job.
So, you have to give a speech and you are terrified. You get nervous, you forget what you want to say, you stumble over words, you talk too long, and you bore your audience. Later you think, “Thank Goodness, it’s over. I’m just not good at public speaking. I hope I never have to do that again.”
Cheer up!    Here are some simple steps to take the pain out of speech making. Ask yourself the purpose of your speech. What is the occasion? Why are you speaking? Then, gather as many facts as you can on your subject. Spend plenty of your time doing your research. Then spend plenty of your time organizing your material so that your speech is clear and easy to follow. Use as many examples as possible, and use pictures, charts, and graphs if they help you make your points more clearly.      Don’t talk over their heads, and don’t talk down to them. Treat your audience with respect. They will appreciate your thoughtfulness.
Just remember: Be prepared. Know your subject, your audience, and the occasion. Be brief.   And be yourself. Let your personality come through so that you make person-to-person contact with your audience. If you follow these simple steps, you will see that you don’t have to be afraid of public speaking. In fact, you may find the experience so enjoyable that you volunteer to make more speeches ! You’re not convinced yet?

A.It doesn’t have to be that bad.
B.Take several deep breaths before your speech.
C.This article gives some advice on how to give good speech.
D.Say what you have to say and then stop.

E. Don’t say what you aren’t familiar with.
F. Never forget your audience.
G. Give it a try and see what happens.

With a new year approaching,,many people have an “out with the old and in with the new” mentality — and work is usually a big part of that. If you’re feeling that way, here are several tips that can help you become better at your job in 2015.
_______
One of the most common mistakes made by both managers and employees today, is that too often, both are afraid to come to the table and talk about essential issues. Taylor says, “Fear of conflict is so overwhelming (无法抵抗的), but if you communicate bravely, more frequently, and honestly in 2015, and you’re not afraid to work through conflict, you’ll likely reduce your stress and be a better worker.” Too much time is spent reflecting on misunderstood employee communications, which, if left unaddressed, eventually leads to conflict.
________
“Your boss controls your destiny (命运) so it’s in your best interest to get to know them better both personally and professionally,” says Andy Teach, author of From Graduation to Corporation: The Practical Guide to Climbing the Corporate Ladder One Rung at a Time. “It doesn’t mean you need to be friends with them or hang out with them, but you do need to learn what makes them tick. The more you communicate with your boss, the better it is for you.”
________
“Share ideas with context and a clear path for implementation (执行) for the leader to evaluate. The more you present any issues with recommended solutions and then implement those solutions in a timely and effective manner, the more the leadership team will rely on you and think about you for future projects and new responsibilities,” Meador says.
________
If you’re already an overachiever, have been called a “workaholic,” or are generally exhausted, then you need to slow down and break the habit of setting impossible goals for yourself in the New Year. You may have to readjust and expect, say 75% of your workload to be achieved in a set period in order to feel fulfilled. If you’re a manager, this approach may take some of unnecessary pressure off staff, too.
________
“Your industry is changing all the time and you need to keep up with what’s happening now,” Teach says. Most industries have trade magazines or websites that have the latest news in that industry. It’s important to read these so that you are well informed and can discuss recent industry events and changes with your co-workers, supervisors, and management. Information is power.

A.Study your industry.
B.Avoid common mistakes.
C.Don’t overwork yourself.
D.Get to know your boss better.

E. Improve your communication skills.
F. Always come to the table with a solution.

_ One of the best things you can possibly do is to start you own club. It’s great fun especially if you are the sort of person who feels there’s never anything to do during the school holidays.
The first thing you need to come up with is an idea for your club.  __ Pets, clothes, pop music or dancing groups, sports, making things? The list is endless.
Next you need some friends to be in your club with you.  _ All you need is three or four other people who are interested in the same thing as you.
You should all sit down somewhere together with lots of pieces of paper and write down every name you can think up. That’ll keep you busy for ages.
At your first meeting you should make up a rule book. And the first rule should be no grown-ups or little/big brothers or sisters! The best clubs are always secret!
Now you have just about everything you need, except membership cards. These are very important and again you can speed a lot of time making them.        Why not leave some space for a photo of yourself? That will make the membership card really look like it.

What A Real Leader Does
Is a leader merely a manager? What should we expect from our leaders?
Yes, we do need leaders. On our own, we lack the vision, direction, and strength to reach our goals. We were all in need of guidance when we were children--even the cleverest child could not possibly be expected to make certain crucial decisions. Once we become adults, with the capacity to reason for ourselves, we are facing so many pressures of daily survival that we rarely find time and energy to focus on life’s larger issues. And when we do, our emotions and subjectivity limit our vision and our movement.
When we are occupied with our self-interest--petty or great, a leader sends out a wake-up call, alerting us to seek the true priorities in life.
With so many people trying to be leaders these days, how do we recognize a true leader? To answer this question, we must step back and ask:
A true leader wants nothing more than to make people stand on their own, as leaders in their own right. Instead of trying to blind us with his or her brilliance, a true leader reflects our own light back to us, so that we can see ourselves anew.
The differences between a leader and a boss: A boss drives their employees, and a leader coaches them. A boss inspires fear, and a leader generates enthusiasm. A boss says “I”, and a leader says “We”. A boss places blame for breakdowns, and a leader fixes them.
Decide now. Decide today. Are you going to be a real leader? Are you going to develop real leaders?       Remember, a leader with vision has a clear, vivid picture of where to go, as well as a firm grasp on what success looks like and how to achieve it.

A.A leader provides a new perspective, inspiring us to abandon our narrow field of vision.
B.This sense of urgency is just as important in a leader as a sense of vision.
C.And do we really need leaders in the first place?
D.Are you going to inspire and generate enthusiasm?

E. We have a CEO who can direct thousands of employees toward a single objective, and politicians who inspire millions of citizens to support them.
F. What is it that a leader is really trying to accomplish?
G. A boss knows how it is done, and a leader shows how it is done.
