As a parent you should help your children understand money.  so you may start talking about money when your child shows it.
1. The basic function of money
Begin explaining the basic function of money by showing how people trade money for goods or services. It’s important to show your child how money is traded for the thing he wants to have. If he wants to have a toy, give him the money and let him hand the money to the cashier.      when your child grows a bit older and understands the basic function of money, you can start explaining more complex ways of using money.
2. Money lessons
Approach money lessons with openness and honesty.   If you must say no to a child’s request to spend money, explain “You have enough toy trucks for now.” Or, if the request is for many different things, say, “You have to make a choice between this toy and that toy.”
3.
Begin at the grocery store. Pick out similar brands of a product—a name brand butter and a generic(无商标产品),for example. You can show your child how to make choices between different brands of a product so that you can save money.  If he chooses the cheaper brand, allow him to make another purchase with the money saved. Later, you may explain how the more expensive choice leaves less money for other purchases.

A.The value of money.
B.Wise decisions.
C.The best time to teach a child anything about money is when he shows an interest.
D.After you leave the toy store, tell him how the money buys the thing.

E. Give him a chance to make a choice
F. Give your child a reason why the things couldn’t be his.
G. Ask yourself what things that cost money are most important to you.

Being a good student doesn’t mean you have to drop all social activities and dive into your books. It is still possible to have a healthy social life while getting good grades.       Here are how you can achieve it:
Decide for yourself at the start of the term that you won’t let your schoolwork sweep you away.
Write down your weekly schedule on a piece of paper.Chances are that you’ll have small gaps between classes during the week and more free time at the weekend.Make sure that every time you find yourself in one of those between-class gaps you use the time efficiently.
Set aside at least one large amount of time each week as free time.Keep in mind the law of diminishing returns(收益递减).Past a certain point, more hours studying will be of little benefit.        Protect both your free time and your school time carefully. If one starts to infringe(侵犯)on the other, that is just the beginning of a long, slippery downhill slope(斜坡).
This way,you can co-ordinate(协调)your free time with theirs.
Whenever possible, find social activities that take you off campus and away from your schoolwork.

A.Balance is the key.
B.Encourage your friends to follow a similar plan.
C.It is very important to be determined about this.

A major source of teen stress is school exams, and test anxiety is not uncommon. When you recognize your teen is under stress, how can parents help your teen stay calm before an exam?
Be involved. Parents need to be involved in their teen’s work.    What they look for is your presence — to talk, to cry, or simply to sit with them quietly. Communicate openly with your teen. Encourage your teen to express his worries and fears, but don’t let them focus on those fears.
Help them get organized.   Together, you and your teen can work out a time-table in which he can study for what he knows will be on the test.
Provide a calm setting. Help your teen set up a quiet place to study and protect his privacy. Give them a nutritious diet. It is important for your teen to eat a healthy, balanced diet during exam times to focus and do his best.   If this happens, encourage your teen to eat light meals or sandwiches. A healthy diet, rather than junk food, is best for reducing stress.
Persuade your teenager to get some sleep and /or do something active when he needs a real break from studying. Making time for relaxation, fun, and exercise are all important in reducing stress. Help your teen balance his time so that he will feel comfortable taking time out from studying to spend time with friends or rest.
Show a positive attitude.   Your panic, anxiety and blame contribute to your teen’s pressure. Make your teen feel accepted and valued for his efforts. Most importantly, reassure your teen that things will be all right, no matter what the results are.

A.A parent’s attitude will dictate their teen’s emotions.
B.Exam stress can make some teens lose their appetite.
C.They will only make the situation worse.
D.Encourage your teen to relax.

E. The best thing is simply to listen.
F. Help your teen think about what he has to study and plan accordingly.
G. Your teen may also make negative comments about themselves.

Doctors say anger can be an extremely damaging emotion, unless you learn how to deal with it. So what exactly do you know about anger?    Some people express anger openly in a calm, reasonable way. Others burst with anger, and scream and yell. But other people keep their anger inside. They can not or will not express it. This is called repressing anger. For years many doctors thought that repressing anger was more dangerous to a person’s health than expressing it. They said that when a person is angry, the brain releases some hormones (荷尔蒙). They speed the heart rate, raise blood pressure, or sugar into the blood, etc.
So is there any solution?     They say the first step is to admit that you are angry and to recognize the real cause of the anger, then decide if the cause is serious enough to get angry about. If it is, they say, “    Wait until your anger has cooled down and you are able to express yourself calmly and reasonably.”
Doctors say that a good way to deal with anger is to find humor in the situation that has made you angry.

A.Thus, the person feels excited and ready to act.
B.Humor can help you deal with anger better and bring you laughter.
C.Do not express your anger while angry.
D.Anger is a normal emotion that we all feel from time to time.

E. Doctors say the solution is learning how to deal with anger.

Our spiritual intelligence quotient(精神智商), or SQ, helps us understand ourselves, and live fuller, happier lives.
While we’re all born with SQ, most of us aren’t even aware that we have it. Fortunately, you don’t have to sign up for classes to learn how to improve your SQ. Here are some simple steps that can lead you to this new level of understanding.
The process of developing spiritual(精神的) intelligence(智力) begins with solitude(独处) and silence. To tune in(调整) to your spirit, you have to turn down the volume in your busy, noisy, complicated(复杂的) life and force yourself to do nothing at all. Start small by creating islands for silence in your day. In the car, instead of listening to the music, use the time to think. At work, shut the door to your office between meetings, take a few breaths and let them out very, very slowly.
Step Outside. For many people, nature sets their spirit free.          If you are walking with the dog, take the time to admire flower in bloom; follow the flight of a bird and watch clouds float overhead.
Find an Activity You Enjoy. It’s important to find a hobby that helps you tune in to your spirit. Garden, walk or jog, arrange flowers, listen to music that touches your soul.
Ask open-ended questions, such as “What am I feeling? What are my choices? Where am I heading?”
But don’t expect an answer to arrive through some super-natural form of e-mail. “Rarely do I get an immediate answer to my question.” says Reverend Joan Carter, a Presbyterian minister(长老会牧师) in Sausalito, California. “But later that day I suddenly find myself thinking about a problem in a perspective(角度) I never considered before.”
While most of us rely on gut(本能的) feeling to realize danger, spiritual intelligence pushes us, not away from, but towards some action that will lead to a greater good.

A.Sit Quietly.
B.Trust Your Spirit.
C.Change Your Spirit.
D.Get Your Spirit Relaxed.

E. Ask Questions of Yourself.
F. Go outside to watch a beautltul sunset.
G. Enjoy the stillness in your home after the kids are finally in bed.

What is a dream?
For centuries, people have wondered about the strange places that they seem to visit in their sleep.                        However, they have been valued as necessary to a person's health and happiness.
Historically people thought dreams contained messages from God. It was only in the twentieth century that people started to study dreams scientifically believing that they tell about a person's character.             He believed that dreams allow a person to express fantasies or fears, which would be socially unacceptable in real life.
The second theory to become popular was Carl Jung's compensation theory. Jung, a former student of Freud, said that the purpose of a dream is not to hide something, but rather to communicate it to the dreamer.          Thus, people who think too highly of themselves may dream about falling; those who think too little of themselves dream of being heroes.
Using more recent research, William Domhoff from the University of California found that dreaming is a mental skill that needs time to develop in humans.         Until they reach age five, they cannot express very well what their dreams are about. Once people become adults, there is little or no change in their dreams. The dreams of men and women differ. For instance, the characters that appear in the dreams of men are often other men, and often involve physical aggression.
The meaning of dreams continues to be difficult to understand.         If you dream that a loved one is going to die, do not panic. The dream may have meaning, but it does not mean that your loved one is going to die.

A.It gives scientists chances to better understand human mind.
B.However, people should not take their dreams as reality.
C.Children do not dream as much as adults.
D.Dreams make up for what is lacking in waking life.

E. First, there was Sigmund Freud’s theory.
F. They think their mind is trying to tell them something.
G. They have been considered as meaningless nighttime journeys.

As Nicole and Mike Zupan get closer to retirement, they worry about more than just covering their own living expenses for the next several decades.
He is autistic(患自闭症的) and may never be able to live on his own. Their idea of retirement is to live a quiet life close to their son.   They want to create a special needs trust to help pay for treatment and other expenses he might face as an adult.
“Because of our son’s needs, I guess I never really considered true retirement for us,” she says.
She is to attend college in a few years.
The Zupans’ ideal plan is for Mike, 60, to retire first, in five to seven years, and for Nicole, 52, to continue working for several years beyond that before she joins him in retirement.
But before they can get there, they want to pay off the $18,000 in credit card debt, partly because their son’s treatment is not covered by insurance. They have about $230,000 left on the mortgage(按揭) for their home in Fairfax County, Va., which they assess will take about 12 years to pay off.
Matters are complicated by the fact that Nicole, who worked as a preschool teacher, is now unemployed while she recovers from foot operation.    Mike’s $120,000 income, which he earns as a government clerk, is enough to cover their basic living expenses. But Nicole wants to get back to work so the family could afford more treatment for Josef and pay down their debt faster. They also would be able to save more for their long-term goals, including retirement, their daughter’s college tuition and their son’s future living expenses.

A.Besides they have a $14,000 loan they used on home improvements.
B.It’s unlikely that Josef will go to college.
C.They’re also trying to save for their 14-year-old daughter, Elshaday.
D.They want to set aside enough money for their 15-year-old son, Josef.

E. It could be a few weeks before she can return to the workforce.
F. Can their retirement savings cover them?
