My mother used to ask me what was the most important part of the body. Through the years I would 21 what I thought was the correct answer. When I was younger, I thought 22 was very important to us as humans, so I said, “My ears, Mommy”. She said, “No. Many people are 23 . But you keep thinking about it and I will ask you again soon.”
Several years passed 24 she asked me again. Since making my first 25 , I had often thought of the correct answer. So this time I told her, “Mommy, sight is very important to everybody, so it must be our eyes.” She looked at me and told me, “You are 26 fast, but the answer is not correct because there are many people who are blind.”
27 the years, Mother asked me a couple more 28 and always her answer was, “No, but you are getting 29 every year, my child.” Then last year, my Grandpa died. Everybody was crying when it was our 30 to say our final good-bye to Grandpa. Mom asked me, “Do you know the most important body part yet, my dear?”
I was 31 when she asked me this now. I always thought this was a 32 between her and me. She saw the 33 on my face and told me, “This question is very important. It shows that you have really 34 your life.” I saw her eyes well up with tears. She said, “My dear, the most important body part is your 35 .” I asked, “Is it because it holds up your head?” She replied, “No, it is 36 on them a crying friend or loved one can rest their head. I only hope that you have enough 37 and friends that you will have a shoulder to cry 38 when you need it.” Then and there I knew the most important body part is not a 39 one. It is sympathetic to the pain of 40 .

I take the firm position that parents do not owe their children a college education. If they can __1 it, they can certainly send them to the best universities. But they must not feel guilty if they can’t. If the children really want to go, they’ll find a 2 out. There are plenty of loans(货款)and scholarships for the bright and 3 ones who can’t afford to pay.
When children grow up and want to get married, their parents do not owe them a down payment on a house. They do not have the 4 to baby-sit their grandchildren. If they want to do it,it must be considered a(n) 5 not an obligation(责任,义务).
Do parents owe their children anything? Yes,they owe them a great deal.
One of their obligations is to give their children personal 6 .A child who is constantly made to feel stupid and unworthy, constantly 7 to brighter brothers, sisters, or cousins will become so _8_ , so afraid of failing that he(or she)won’t try at all .Of course they should be __9__ corrected when they do wrong, but it’s often better to let children learn their mistakes by themselves in time. All our parents should do is to trust them, respect them, tolerate(宽容)them and give them chances to try and fail. They must learn to stand 10 .When criticisms(批评)are really needed, they should be 11 with praises, with a smile and a kiss. That is the way children learn.
Parents owe their children a set of solid values around which to build their lives. This means teaching them to 12 the rights and opinions of others;it means being respectful to elders,to teachers, and to the law.The best way to teach such values is by 13 .A child who is lied to will lie.A child who sees no laughter and no love in the home will have 14 laughing and loving.
No child asks to be 15 .If you bring a life into the world, you owe the child something.

I lived in Dallas, Texas nearly all my life with my mom, dad and older sister. We were 41 to respect others, value education, and get all that we could out of life. My parents always say, “ 42 hard and the world is yours.” They are never without a 43 word of advice or a bit of encouragement when life gets tough.
My parents always 44 me to go to college. However, when I 45 at 16 years old that I’d rather get married to a man than go to college, they 46 stopped telling me they loved me and I could anything I wanted to. 47 , they persuaded me. I always long for romantic moments, like a little girl longing for candies. However, my husband is my complete 36 . His inability to bring romantic moments into our life has made me get tired of our 37 . One day, I finally told him that I wanted a divorce.
“Why?” he asked, 38 .
“I am tired; there are no 39 for everything in the world!” I answered.
He kept 40 , seeming to be in deep thought, with a lighted cigarette in his hands. Finally he asked, “What can I do to change your 41 ?”
Looking deep into his eyes I slowly answered, “Let’s say, I want a flower on a mountain cliff and picking the flower will cause your 42 . Will you do it for me?”
He answered, “I will give you my answer tomorrow.”
I 43 the next morning, finding a piece of paper on the dining table, which read: “My dear, I would not pick that flower for you, but please allow me to 44 .”
My feeling of disappointment only 45 , but I continued reading:
“You always leave the 46 keys behind, so I have to save my legs to 47 home to open the door for you. You always like to stay indoors and I 48 that you will feel too lonely, so I have to save my mouth to tell you jokes and stories. Thus, my dear, 52 I am sure that there is someone who loves you more than I do, I could not pick that flower yet, and die.”
My tears fell on the 53 and I continued reading:

My friend Michelle is blind, but you’d never know it. She makes such good use of her other 36 , including her "sixth sense", that she rarely gives the impression she’s 37 anything.
Michelle looks after her children pretty much like the rest of us, 38 that she doesn’t push too hard on them, 39 really benefit a lot from her relaxed attitude. She knows when to clean the house, she moves around so fast that often 40 don’t realize she’s blind.
I 41 this the first time after my six-year-old daughter, Kayla, went to play there. When Kayla came home, she was very 42 about her day. She told me they had baked cookies, played games and done art projects. But she was 43 excited about her finger-painting project."Mom, guess what?" said Kayla, all smiles. "I learned how to 44 colors today! Blue and red make purple, and yellow and blue make green! And Michelle 45 with us.
To my great 46 , my child had learnt about color from a blind friend! Then Kayla continued, "Michelle told me my 47 showed joy, pride and a sense of accomplishment. She really 48 what I was doing!" Kayla said she had never felt how good finger paints felt 49 Michelle showed her how to paint without looking at her paper.
I realized Kayla didn’t know that Michelle was blind. It had just never 50 in conversation. When I told her, she was 51 for a moment. At first, she didn’t believe me. "But Mommy, Michelle knew exactly what was in my picture!" Kayla 52 . And I knew my child was 53 because Michelle had listened to Kayla describe her artwork. Michelle had also heard Kayla’s 54 in her work.
We were silent for a minute. Then Kayla said slowly, "You know, Mommy, Michelle really did ‘see’ my picture. She just used my 55 ." Indeed, she uses a special type of “vision” that all mothers have.

I’ve always had strong opinions of how love should be expressed, but others had their own ways of showing care.
What I 36 most about visiting my boyfriend’s parents is the loud tick of the clock in the dining room as we 37 ate our meal. With so little conversation I was quick to 38 his family as cold. When we got into the 39 to go home, his father suddenly appeared. 40 , he began to wash his son’s windscreen. I could feel he was a caring man through the glass.
I learned another lesson about love a few years later. My father often 41 me early in the morning. “Buy Xerox. It’s a good sharp price,” he might say when I answered the phone. No pleasant 42 or inquiry about my life, just financial instructions. This manner of his 43 me and we often quarreled. But one day, I thought about my father’s success in business and realized that his concern for my financial security lay behind his 44 morning calls. The next time he called and told me to buy a stock, I 45 him.
When my social style has conflicted with that of my friends, I’ve often felt 46 . For example, I always return phone calls 47 and regularly contact with my friends. I expect the same from them. I had one friend who rarely called, answering my messages with short e-mails. I rushed to the 48 : She wasn’t a good friend! My anger 49 as the holidays approached. But then she came to a gathering I 50 and handed me a beautiful dress I had fallen in love with when we did some window-shopping the previous month. I was 51 at her thoughtfulness, and regretful for how I’d considered her to be 52 . Clearly I needed to change my expectations of friends.
Far too often, I ignored their 53 expressions, eagerly expecting them to do things in my 54 . Over the years, however, I’ve learned to 55 other persons, love signs.

No one is perfect. We all mess up(搞砸)now and then.It can 36 a little bit to rememberthat most people have been in the 37 you’re in—hurting several people’s feelings. What makes the difference is what you do next. 38 can go along way toward healing(治愈) hurt or angry feelings. It takes 39 to step up and admit what you did was 40 .Try saying,
“What I said the other day was 4l insensitive of me.I shouldn’t have said that.I just want to say I’m sorry.”
When we say sorry, we 42 to be sincere to show we feel sorry about how hurt another person may be.If an apology is more about 43 and how we can benefit,it might not seem true.
Another element of saying sorry is to let the person know you’re not going to let it 44 again. You could tell your friends,“I’m going to be more aware of what I 45 and say about people in the future.I’ll make an effort(努力) to be 46 and more positive about people, and not to 47 behind their backs—especially when it’s my friends.”
If you can’t bring yourself to have a 48 in person, write a note.Whichever way you 49 to communicate, be sure that you’d feel comfortable if anything you say is 50 with other friends, too.
Hopefully, your friends can stop being angry with you.But don’t be 51 if it doesn’t happen instantly. Some people are quick to 52 .Others may have to think about what you said and need 53 to get over hurt feelings or anger , or to regain trust.Do your best with the part that’s up to you.The rest is up to them.
Stop being angry with yourself, too. You can learn from your 54 .Being too self-critical can’t help you.Move forward.Focus your energies on trying to make things right 55 working on your good intentions!
