A man and his girlfriend got married. Everyone could tell that the love they had for each other was true.
A few months later, the wife came to the husband with a proposal, "I read in a magazine about how we can 36 our marriage. Each of us will write a list of the things that we find a bit 37 with the other. Then, we can talk about how we can 38 them together and make our lives happier together."
The husband 39 . So each of them went to a(n) 40 room and thought about the things that annoyed them about the other for the rest of the day.
The next morning, at the breakfast table, they decided that they would go over their 41 .
"I'll start," offered the wife. She 42 her list. It had many items on it, enough to fill 3 pages. After the wife had read all three pages to her husband, 43 the husband stated, "I don't have anything on my list. I think that you are perfect the 44 that you are. I don't want you to 45 anything for me."
The wife, touched by his honesty and the depth of his love for her and his 46 of her, turned her head and wept.
In life, there are enough times when we are disappointed, depressed and annoyed. We don't really have to go 47 for them. We have a wonderful world that is full of beauty, light and promise. Why waste time seeking the bad, disappointing or annoying when we can look around us, and see the wonderful things before us?

A high school history teacher once told us, “if you make one close friend in school, you will be most fortunate. A true friend is someone who stays with you for life.” __1___ teaches that he was right. Good friendship is just not easily __2___.
It is possible that we simply do not stay in one place long enough for __3___ friendship to __4__. However, there can be _5__ disagreement on the need for each of us to think carefully about the kind of friendship we want.
To most of us, friendships are considered very important, but we need to have clear in our _6__ the kinds of friendship we want. Are they to be close or __7_ at arm’s length? Do we want to __8_ ourselves or do we want to walk on the surface? For some people, many friendships on the surface are _9__ enough---and that’s right. But at some point we need to _10__ that our expectations are the same as our friends’ expectations. The sharing of _11__ experience _12__ our tears as well as our dark dreams is the surest way to deepen friendships. But it __13_ be undertaken(进行)slowly and carried on only if there are _14__ of interest and action in return.
What are some of the _15__ of friendship? The greatest is the attraction to expect too much too soon. Deep relationships __16_ time. Another “major difficulty” is the selfishness to think one “possesses” the other, including his time and attention, Similarly, friendships __17___actions in return, in __18__ words, you must give as much as you take. Finally there is a question of taking care of . Unless you spend __19__ time together, talking on the phone, writing letters doing things together, friendships will die __20__

I often read of incidents of misunderstanding or conflict. I ’m left 36 . Why do these people create mistrust and problems, especially with those from other 37 ?
I was growing up in Kuala Lumpur in the early 1960s, 38 children from different races and religions played and studied 39 in harmony. At that time my family lived a stone s 40 from Ismail’s. And no one was bothered that Ismail was a Malay Muslim and Iwas an Indian Hindu——we just 41 our differences. Perhaps, our elders had not filled our heads with unnecessary advice, well 42 or otherwise.
We were nine when we became friends. During the school holidays, we'd 43 the countryside on our bicycles, hoping to 44 the unexpected. At times Ismail would accompany my family as we made a rare shopping trip to town. We would be glad of his 45 .
When I was twelve, my family moved to Johor. Ismail s family later returned to their village, and I 46 touch with him.
One spring afternoon in 1983, I stopped a taxi in Kuala Lumpur. I 47 my destination. The driver acknowledged my 48 but did not move off. Instead, he looked 49 at me. “Raddar?" he said, using my childhood nickname(绰号). I was astonished at being so 50 addressed (称呼). Unexpectedly! It was Ismail! Even after two 51 we still recognized each other. Grasping his shoulder, I felt a true affection, something 52 to describe.
If we can allow our children to be 53 without prejudice, they'll build friendships with people, regardless of race or religion, who will be 54 their side through' thick and thin. On such friendships are societies built and 55 we can truly be, as William Shakespeare once wrote, 44we happy few, we band of brothers".

I was doing some last-minute Christmas shopping in a toy store. A nicely dressed little girl was 36 the teddy bears beside her father 37 she saw a little boy walk in and stop in front of the Pokémon toys. His jacket was obviously too small. He had money in his hand. 38 , it looked no more than five dollars at most. He was with his father as well, and 39 picking up the Pokémon video games. Each time he showed one to his father, his father 40 his head, “No”.
Rather 41 , the boy gave up the video games and chose a book of stickers 42 . After they walked away, the little girl ran over to the Pokémon video games. She excitedly picked up one 43 on top of the others, and ran toward the check-out. I picked up my purchases(购买物) and 44 the girl and her father.
Then, much to the little girl’s 45 , the little boy and his father got in line 46 her and me. After the video was paid for and bagged, the little girl 47 it back to the cashier(收银员) and 48 something to her. The cashier smiled and put the 49 under the counter(柜台). I was putting things in my bag when the little boy came up to the cashier. The cashier said, “ 50 , you’re my hundredth customer today, and you win a prize!” and she handed the boy the Pokémon game. The boy could only 51 in disbelief. It was, he said, 52 what he had wanted! The little girl and her father had been standing at the doorway, and I saw the biggest and 53 smile on that little girl I have ever seen in my life.
I suddenly understood that the world is not 54 into the strong who care and the 55 who are cared for. We must each in turn care and be cared.

When I was a child, my mom liked to make food for dinner every now and then. And I remember one night 36 when she made dinner after a long, 37 day at work.
On that evening so long ago, my mom placed a plate of eggs, sausage, and extremely burned toast in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone 38 ! Yet all my dad did was to 39 his toast, smile at my mom, and ask me how my day was at school. I don’t remember what I 40 him that night, but I do remember 41 him smear(涂上)butter on that toast and eat 42 bite!
43 I got up from the table that evening, I remember hearing my mom 44 to my dad for burning the toast. 45 I’ll never forget what he said: “Baby, I 46 burnt toast.”
Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy 47 and I asked him if he really liked his toast burned. He wrapped me in his arms and said, “Son, your mom 48 a hard day at work today and she’s really 49 . And besides, a little burnt toast never 50 anyone!”
You know, life is full of imperfect things…and imperfect people. I’m not the best housekeeper or cook. What I’ve learned over the years is that learning to accept each other’s 51 and choosing to celebrate each other’s differences is one of the most important keys to creating a healthy and 52 relationship.
And this is my prayer for you today: you’ll learn to take the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of your life and 53 them at the feet of God, because 54 , he’s the only one who will be able to give you a relationship where burnt toast isn’t a deal-breaker(煞风景)!

One of my fondest Christmas memories was also one of our family’s bleakest(最令人沮丧的).We were just little kids , and on Christmas Day mom 21 us all around her to tell us , 22 ,that there would be no presents because all we really wanted was to 23 for our daddy. He was very sick . They gave their time and their 38 to little children who needed to laugh.

Education from My Father
My memories of my father are slim because he was so sick in the last years of his life. But there are 32 that I am often reminded of and which may have had some bearing on my love of 33 .
When I was small I was somewhat 34 of lightning and thunder. My father explained it. The explanation was in 35 that a child could understand but was basically correct. I gained a better 36 later, but I didn’t have to unlearn anything.
What he said was that there was electricity in the clouds 37 it traveled to the ground like a spark. When it traveled 38 the air it made the air so hot that it 39 . Then there was nothing where the air had been and the air all around rushed in to 40 the space. He clapped his hands together very loud, 41 to be the air rushing in, and said that makes the thunder. When I hear thunder, I can still hear that 42 .
He explained why if it was cloudy in the winter the night was warmer than if it was 43 . It was one of those nights when the sky was full of stars: no moon, no town lights. But there were more stars than you could 44 and they had color too. He said that if there were no clouds, we had no blankets and were 45 to the universe. Our warmth was going to 46 the whole universe. When there were clouds, they were like blankets and we were not exposed to the universe. I 47 feel on the edge of space on a very clear night.
I am sure there were many other lessons that I 48 but no longer remember. What I did 49 , in general, was that there were explanations and that the more I understood them, the more comfortable the world was to live in. I was not taught that there were 50 but that there was understanding if you looked for it. This may be why I have always been 51 in science.

I recently overheard something that surprised me. I heard that people who win the lottery (彩票) are__21_for about 3 weeks. And then they go back to their__22__state of being before they won the money.I__23__that they would have been happy for a much longer time.
The reason for this is that__24__we try to change how we feel by using something outside of ourselves, like winning the lottery,or getting a new car or house,it never__25__.The resulting feelings of happiness are often fleeting (飞逝的).We cannot__26__them for very long.In some way,it may be a good thing. It reminds us that happiness really does come from within and is__27__to us at any moment.True happiness has__28__to do with what is happening outside;it is an inside job.Happiness is a__29__.
We can make the decision to be happy for one day, when we__30__in the morning, every morning. We can find something that brings us great __31__,like sitting outside in the garden under an old tree and__32__the birds sing,or watching the dog or cat play, and just__33__the moment. It is our__34__state and we need only allow it in.At any moment,we can__35__,take a deep breath, and remember who we really are,and why we came here, and that truly is to__36__joy and the aliveness of being.
“Happiness is like a butterfly which, when run after,is always __37__our reach, but,if you will sit down___38__,may fall upon you,” said Nathaniel Hawthorne,an American novelist. So,today,no matter what is going on in your own__39__,stop and take a few moments to breathe deeply and just__40__to be happy, whatever that means to you.

One day a teacher asked her students to list the names of 44 students in the classroom on two sheets of paper, leaving a space between each name. Then she told them to think of the 45 thing they could say about each of their classmates and write it down.

The students were 55 with themselves and one another.
That group of students moved on. Several years later, one of the students was 56 in Vietnam War and his teacher 57 the funeral of that special student. After the funeral, most of Mark’s former classmates left. Mark’s mother and father were there, obviously waiting to speak to his teacher.
“We want to 58 you something,” his father said, taking a 59 out of his pocket.
“They found this on Mark when he was killed. We thought you might 60 it.”
Opening the wallet, he 61 removed two worn pieces of notebook paper that had obviously been taped, folded, and refolded many times. The teacher knew without 62 that the papers were the ones on which she had listed all the good things each of Mark’s classmates had said about him.
“Thank you so much for doing that,” Mark’s mother said. “As you can see, Mark 63 it.”

I can still remember the first day when I met my best friend. I hid behind my mother and she hid behind her grandmother, 36 to look at each other. But we soon lost the 37 and started playing with each other. In the 7th grade, I first lost touch with her. She was 38 family problems and I deserted her to be with the “cooler people.” 39 of my new friends liked her as much as I did 40 they knew she had “problems”. However, every summer we would 41 sit at each other’s home and watch soap operas and talk about everything we liked.
It was last year when I 42 the problem. I guess I was just too busy in high school to realize she needed someone there for her. Well, she made a new “best friend” and 43 did I. Then I didn’t know why, but she started cutting herself.
She was diagnosed with clinical depression(抑郁症). I was very 44 at first, but with the late night calls, we still stayed in 45 . I wanted to be there for her since her new best friend 46 deserted her, when people were calling her 47 , but I knew I still 48 her like a sister.
Yesterday she came 49 me and said this,” I never knew what a best friend was 50 I found you were the only person that would stop me from cutting, the only person that ever made me feel better about myself and my 51 . You don’t know this but I was trying to kill myself one night when you 52 me. I 53 you so much, and you didn’t even know you were 54 me.” We both cried. And I guess a kind of lesson from my life so far is to never 55 your friends.

I grew up poor – living with six brothers, my father and a wonderful mother. We had 36 money and few worldly goods, but plenty of love and attention. I was 37 and energetic. I understood that no matter how poor a person was, they could 38 afford a dream.
My dream was to be a 39 . When I was sixteen, I could crush a baseball, throw a ninety – mile – per – hour fastball. I was also 40 : my high – school coach was Ollie Jarvis, who 41 me the difference between having a dream and showing strong belief. One particular 42 with him changed my life forever.
It was a summer and a friend recommended me for a summer 43 . This meant a chance for my first income – cash for a new bike and new clothes, and the 44 of savings for a house for my mother. The opportunity was attracting, and I wanted to 45 at it.
Then I realized I would have to 46 summer baseball to handle the work schedule, and that meant I would have to tell Coach Jarvis I wouldn’t be playing. I was 47 about this.
When I told Coach Jarvis, he was as 48 as I expected him to be. “You have your whole life to work,” he said. “Your 49 days are limited. You can’t afford to waste them.”
I stood before him with my head 50 , trying to think of how to explain to him why my dream of buying my mom a house and having money in my pocket was worth 51 his disappointment in me.
“How much are you going to make at this job?” he demanded.
“$ 3.25 an hour,” I replied.
“Well, is $ 3.25 an hour the price of a 52 ?” he asked.
That 53 laid bare for me the difference between wanting something right now and having a goal. I devoted myself to 54 that summer, and within the year I was offered a $ 20,000 contract. I signed with the Denver Broncos in 1984 for $ 1.7 million, and bought my mother the 55 of my dreams.
