I can still remember the first day when I met my best friend. I hid behind my mother and she hid behind her grandmother,   1  to look at each other. But we soon lost the  2  and started playing with each other. In the 7th grade, I first lost touch with her. She was   3  family problems and I deserted her to be with the “cooler people”.   4  of my new friends like her as much as I did  5  they knew she had “problems”. However, every summer we would   6  sit at each other’s house and watch soap operas and talk about everything we liked.
It was last year when I   7   the problem. I guessed I was just too busy to catch up in high school to realize she   8  someone there for her. Well, she made a new “best friend” and so did I. Then I didn’t know why, but she started cutting herself!
She was diagnosed with clinical depression(抑郁症). I was very  9   at first, but with the late night calls, we still stayed in   10 . I wanted to be there for her since her new best friend   11  deserted her, since people were calling her   12 , and I knew I still   13 her like a sister.
Yesterday she came   14  me and said this, “I never knew what a best friend was   15  you were the only person that would stop me from cutting; the only person that ever made me feel better about myself and my  16 . You don’t know this but I was trying to kill myself one night when you   17  me and I was crying. I   18  you so much, and you didn’t even know you were   19  me.”
We both cried. And I guess a kind of lesson from my life so far is to never   20  your friends.

I am always eager to do experiments, especially chemistry ones. It's   21  to work with test tubes and beakers , even though sometimes my efforts end in failure. Experiments were fun for me   22  a recent accident.
The accident happened when I was heating a big test tube with an alcohol burner , chatting to my partner. All of a sudden, the tube cracked. Even though I jumped from my seat when I heard the crack, the hair on my forehead was burnt as I was leaning too close to the test tube.
23  I had no time to be sad about my hair: the liquid in the test tube poured onto the table and caught fire. I'd never  24  anything so bad! My mind went blank for a moment. Then I quickly covered the fire with a damp cloth to put it out.
The teacher told me that the test tube broke in half at the bottom because we didn't dry it properly before 25  it.
We calmed down and did the experiment, again. But our hearts were still  26  rapidly even after we walked out of the lab.
But my bad luck didn't end there! Since all our   27  was focused on the flames while we were in the lab, I didn't see the liquid falling onto my trousers.
During the following class, I felt a pain in my leg. Soon it became more and m6re painful and I touched the area with my fingers,   28  to make things better. But to my great   29  , the material of my trousers turned into powder! "Vitriol ! ! ! The terrible word came into my mind. I rushed out right away to wash and examine my poor skin.   30  , it was not a serious injury.
After changing my trousers I thought it's very important to have a serious attitude in chemistry class. Doing scientific experiments as a learner is no laughing matter.

A few days ago, I got a letter from a student. In his letter, he told me, “I have this friend at school. She’s one of my good friends but lately she has been ___36__ strange. When I talked to her the other day, she said coldly, ‘Do I look like I care?’ She was being all strange to me. She told me __37___ she thought I was a bad friend, but she still thinks I am her best friend. I am so confused.”
In my letter in reply, I gave him my advice:
After reading your question, I can understand why you’re confused. It sounds like your relationship with your friend is a little shaky. There could be several reasons for her __38__. For example, maybe she has a lot on her mind and is __39__ a few challenges of her own. She may not feel comfortable talking to anyone about them __40__ and may just need a little time to sort through her own feelings. Or, on the day you talked to her, she could have been having a bad day and didn’t realize she was very cold to you. I could list a few more __41__for you, but you know, __42__, the only person who knows why your friend reacted that way is your friend. My__43__ to you is to tell her how you feel. Let her know she hurt your feelings and ask why on some days she’s nice to you, and on other days she isn’t __44__ nice. It could be that your friend is making some other new friends at school and is having difficulty __45___ her old relationships. Whatever her reasons are, you should let her know that you are a unique, caring person who certainly deserves a good friendship at school, _46__ you wouldn’t have taken the time to write me. If your __47__ with this person fades a bit, it’s OK, because you will develop may other friendships.
