The pilot, Antoine De SaintExupery, who wrote The Little Prince, died long ago, but the fictional pilot, who told the story, is as alive today as he was many years ago, along with his Prince, the fox, the rose and the snake.

This timeless tale touches upon childhood and growing up.It opens with the reminder:All grownups were once children but few of them remember it.The pilot in this story loses that part of himself. After a stay in the desert with the little prince, he finds his inner child again. It is a simple story with life lessons. Here are some.

One only understands the things that one tames (驯服).Seeing the thousands of roses that look just like his rose makes the prince feel as if he was tricked by his flower. The fox shows him taming someone takes time. The prince understands the nature of relationships: the time he has wasted on his rose makes her so important.

The fox, as his parting gift, shares his secret with the prince:"One can see rightly with the heart. What is essential (very important and necessary)is invisible (not be seen)to the eye." When the pilot shows his picture about the snake eating the elephant, adults only see it as a hat. Adults can’t see what’s inside the snake. What is on the surface is not what matters. This truth sets the little prince free. He decides to join his rose back on his planet.

Has he returned to his planet and his rose? The ending exists in the imagination of every reader as well as the pilot. After all, it is a book with something for everyone.

Last month, the artist Christo opened his new art sculpture. It is made up of 7,506 colorful barrels (桶) floating on a lake in Hyde Park in London. Christo calls it The London Mastaba. It is his first major outdoor art sculpture in Great Britain. The artwork is in the shape of a mastaba. It looks somewhat like a pyramid with a fat top. The London Mastaba is about 65 feet high, 98 feet wide and 130 feet long, and it weighs about 1.3 million pounds. The metal barrels can be seen from hundreds of feet away.

    (2)

Everyone who looks at it will see something different. Many will think the barrels are barrels of oil in the heart of one of London's oldest parks. They might wonder if Christo was making an announcement against pollution. Others will see a prism or giant pixels or simply a shape. However, everyone must decide for themselves, the 83﹣year﹣old artist said. Christo said he had nothing special in mind when he created The London Mastaba. "There are no messages," Christo said. "There is something in it to discover yourself. I cannot direct you."

    "A Stairway To The Sky"

"It's created a giant invitation, like a stairway to the sky," Christo said. The artist was standing on the banks of the Serpentine Lake in Hyde Park where his artwork floats. Swans are swimming nearby. Some barrels are red with a white candy stripe on the sides. Others are colored blue, purple and red. Their colors will look different as the light changes, Christo said. Their reflection (倒影) in the lake will be like an abstract painting. Abstraction is an artistic style that does not always show something recognizable or realistic.

"Not Really Sure How I Feel About It"

Many people walking in the park were surprised to see the artwork. "It's very modern, but this place is nature and historical. I don't like it here," said Yasmin KocOzcengel, who is a tourist from Turkey. Another person who took a look at the artwork was Anna Andronova. She called The London Mastaba very brave. If it weren't as brave, it wouldn't be as amazing, she said. Sheila Seffenson is an American living in London. "I'm just not really sure how I feel about it," Steffenson said. "Maybe it's a message about pollution. Who knows?"

(1)What can we learn about the artwork?

A. It is a floating pyramid.

B. It is made up of empty oil barrels.

C. It is an abstract painting.

D. It is considered as different things.

(2)Which of the following would be most suitable for ____?

A. An Announcement Against Pollution.

Natural scenes often become the themes of poetry. Poets watch nature closely and present(呈现) its beauty in their poems. For example, poets may describe natural scenes such as a spring day or a snowy day. Besides, poets often express their feelings about nature by creating lively images(形象) in poems.

With images, poets can describe the details (细节) of something colorfully and clearly. Readers, on the other hand, can connect their own experiences with the images in the poems so that they can share the poets' ideas. Now let's read the poem "Who Has Seen the Wind?"

When we read the lines "When the leaves hang trembling" and "When the trees bow down their heads," they remind us of a windy day. The poet successfully creates an image of the wind by describing details of the scene. These help readers think of the moment when the wind passes by. We might even bow our own heads, imagining that we are the trees.

In the poem "Night," Blake describes many details of a night scene. People know very well what they can see at night, like stars or the moon. However, Blake sees more than just the moon itself; he sees the moon as a flower, smiling at us from up in the sky. So the moon is really compared to a flower and personified(拟人化) as a smiling person.
