From 8:30pm to 9:30 pm on Saturday, March 26th, 2011, a great number of people around the world turned off the lights for Earth Hour. It is a bit like an environmental New Year, providing a chance to help care for our earth and make people around the world learn how important it is to do that. What can do during this hour? We can do lots of run things in the dark, such as planning a candlelight dinner for our family or a group of friends, telling stories and singing songs with the kids and neighbors. Emma I was on one of the mountains near the city and took photos of my city. It was great to watch the stars and the moon after a busy day so that I could enjoy this relaxing moment.

Albert I work as a waiter in a restaurant. Our restaurant was still open even for Earth Hour as we got lots of reservations (预定) that night. So we spent the hour working by candlelight. And guess what? Our customers loved that and promised to come for next Earth Hour.

Brandon I turned off the main power to my house and went for a walk for Earth Hour. It was a little strange to walk in the dark, but it was only for one hour. Just think of what it must have been like before the invention of the light bulb!

Mary I invited my friends who know and support Earth Hour activities. We actually had a candlelight concert and we talked about the old happy days that we spent together in college.

A group of fifteen-year-olds at Sunshine School are holding a charity sale to raise money to help their classmate Lisa. Lisa had cerebral palsy(大脑性瘫痪）when she was a baby. Although Lisa has to use a wheelchair to help her get around, she never gives up. And she is always ready to help others. 、

Alex, a boy in Lisa’s class, told a reporter that they could raise about $100 every day. "We have raised about $2,100 so far. We hope we will raise more money for Lisa’s operation," said he.

Lisa is a fifteen-year-old girl with cerebra palsy. She can’t stand up and has to get around in a wheelchair. If she isan operation, she may be able to stand up. Bui her have trouble affording the operation. Some kind people give her a hand and Lisa’s    decided to raise money to help her by selling home-made cookies. After about three   they have raised about $2,100 for Lisa’s operation. Lisa is very thankful. And she is very lucky because so many people are helping .

Things You Can Do to Help the Environment CARS Cars are getting bigger. Bigger cars burn more gas and increase problems with air pollution. So try to walk, ride, or take buses or subways. And if you drive a car, keep it in a good state. This can save gas and make less pollution. Energy The biggest use of home energy is for heating and cooling. The Greenest School in Britain
The pupils and teachers at Fairfield School think it's worth looking after the environment! This is what they've been doing:
Growing vegetables
Fairfield School pupils started their own vegetable garden. Both children and teachers plant and water the seeds ( 种子), then I hey pick the vegetables, which are used in school meals. Now they can all enjoy healthy food at lunchtime. "School dinners are tastier than ever before! " says one pupil.
Recycling
The Fairfield pupils don't just bring their books to school—they bring their rubbish too! There are recycling bins (回收箱 )in the playground for cans, plastic bottles, batteries and paper. The teachers give a prize every month to the pupil who's tried the hardest to recycle.
Planting trees

A way of taking up new hobbies
Starting a new school term is always exciting. It is a chance to  66  your friends again. But the most exciting of all, a new term is a good chance to take up new hobbies. It is common (普遍的) in Britain for students to take up new hobbies after the Christmas holidays. To start something new is a common New Year resolution.

Teachers say buying homework answers online is not many in schools, but an interview with school students shows only 10% are willing to finish their holiday homework by themselves.
Their main complaint is that the homework is too much for them to finish.
“As far as ！ know, many of my students have to go to all kinds of training classes during the holiday. These lake away much of their time for doing homework.”
But as for the parents  who are sending their children to these training classes  they also say they’ve got no choice. Here’s a view from a student’s father.

In order to do with this situation of students copying each other’s homework, some schools have even dropped the idea of holiday homework. Instead, they organize some interesting outdoor activities.

Fred,a young man of twenty-five, was an able worker. He worked in this factory since he finished middle school six years ago. If you think you are too shy and want to be a little bit braver, just try the following things.
Be open to others. Tell people you are shy. There is no need to hide it. When they get to know you are a shy kid, they will understand you better. This also helps you feel more comfortable in talks.
Try to smile more. When you smile , people think you are friendly and easy to talk with. Remember that other people have feelings, too; and most people will stay away from an angry-looking face.
Learn to be a good talker. If you find it hard to start a conversation, say something nice about people around you. Think about how great you feel when someone says something nice to you. Doesn’t it make you want to keep talking to that oerson?
