People celebrate New Year with happiness and joy by exchanging gifts and spending time with their families and friends, but some superstitions(迷信)are followed by many people around the world. Here are some New Year s superstitions.
One of the most popular New Year’ s superstitions is that you should kiss your beloved and dear ones at the stroke(报时的钟声)of midnight. It is said that those who fail to do so will have cold relationships with their loved ones for a whole year.
The New Year should not begin with unpaid debts. It is always said that all the bills should be paid off before the old year closes.
We can’t take anything out of the house on the first day of the year.  Actually, some people think it’s okay to remove things from the house so that something else has the chance to be brought in.
The first person to enter your home after stroke of midnight will influence your luck in the year.  It is believed that this person should ideally be dark – haired, tall, and good – looking.  Nobody knows whether it is true or not.
According to Chinese traditional custom, we usually don’ t sleep until one or two o’clock in midnight on New Year’ s Eve.  There are two meanings.  The first, .the old should treasure every second they have in their rest life; the second, the young hope for longer life for there parents.

A. First footing.
B. Nothing goes out
C. Paying off bills.
D. Kissing at midnight.
E. Lights on for the whole night.
F. Stay up late of all night.

They kept on walking,  and at last,  they found a river.  So they decided to take a bath.  Suddenly, Jim got stuck in the mire (陷在泥里 ). At that moment, Mike saved him. After Jim felt better, he wrote on a stone: Today my best friend saved my life.
Mike saw this, and asked, “After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand. After I saved you, you wrote on a stone. Why?”
Jim answered, “When someone hurts us, we should write it down in sand. Thus winds of forgiveness (宽恕 ) can blow it away. But, when someone does something good for us, we must engrave (铭刻) it in stone, then no wind can ever blow it away.”

How many hours do you spend sitting in a chair every day? Eight hours in the office and three hours in front of the TV after work is the normal condition for many people.
You  probably don't need an expert to tell you that sitting too much is not good for your health, but the following fact can tell you more.
A study showed the health of 123,000 Americans between 1992 and 2006. The death rate(比率)for men who spent six hours or more per day sitting was about 20 percent higher than for men who sat for three hours or less. The death rate for women who sat for more than six hours a day was about 40 percent higher
In other words,
So what can we do about it? Health experts suggest we spend more hours standing instead of sitting. The BBC and the University of Chester in  the UK did a simple experiment with a small group of 10 volunteers who usually spent most of the day sitting. They were asked to stand for at least three hours a day. The researchers took records on days when the volunteers stood, and when they sat around. As a result, there were some great differences, the BBC reported on Oct 16.
The researchers believe that even small movements,  like standing while talking on the phone, going over to talk to a workmate rather than sending an e-mail, or simply taking the stairs instead of lift, will help.
从A.C中为①②处选出恰当的选项使文章通顺、连贯、合理。
A. you can sit while you're standing for long

As a young man, Al was a skilled artist, with a wife and two fine sons. One night, his older son developed a serious stomachache. Neither Al nor his wife took it very seriously. But the boy died suddenly that night.
The death could have been avoided if he had only realized the seriousness of the situation, so Al always felt he was guilty(内疚). To make matters worse, his wife left him a short time later, leaving him alone with his six-year-old younger son. The hurt and pain were more than Al could stand, and he turned to alcohol(酒精) for help.
Al began to lose everything he had—his land, house, etc. Finally Al died alone in a small bar. Hearing of Al’s death, I thought, “What a complete failure(失败)!”
I knew Al’s now adult son, Ernie. He is one of the kindest, most caring, most loving men I have ever known. I saw the love between Ernie and his children, thinking that kindness and caring had to come from somewhere.
I hadn’t heard Ernie talked much about his father. One day, I worked up my courage to ask him what on earth his father had done so that he became such a special person. Ernie said quietly, “As a child until I left home at 18, Al came into my room every night, gave me a kiss and said, ‘Love you, son.’”
Tears came to my eyes as I realized that I had been a fool to tell Al as a failure. He had been a kind loving father, and left behind his best love.
根据短文内容判断正(T)误(F)。
At first there were four people in Al’s family.
Al always felt he was guilty because his wife left him.
Al sold everything he had—his land, house to drink alcohol.
Ernie was a complete failure just like his father.
At the end of the story, the writer thought Al was a loving father.
