Over 30 percent of all food goes to waste, according to The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (联合国粮农组织).Supermarkets throw away food that is not sold before its sell﹣by date, while families throw away food that they can't finish eating.
The world's first food bank was founded in the US in 1967.Some people and stores donated (捐赠) extra food to the bank.People could take the food home there if they didn't have money to buy any for themselves. In Shanghai, there is a "shared fridge" in some communities. It is free for everyone to take food from it.
A UK company called The Real Junk Food Project says that food that has passed its sell﹣by date is still safe to eat. They collect this food from supermarkets and sell it in cafes. You only have to pay as much as you feel is necessary. If you don't want to spend money, you can volunteer at the cafes instead.
What else can we do to stop food waste? The answer is simply buying less food.

Tony: Hello, everyone. I am Tony, the group leader. These are my group members, Betty, Daming and Lingling. As we know, Jinhua is a beautiful city with a long history. But you may not know the two longest corridor bridges(廊桥) in China are here. They are Xijin Bridge and Shuxi Bridge. So we chose these two bridges as our project target(项目任务). Here is our presentation.
Betty: I’ll introduce the process. First we made a plan about the time we would need and how to do the project. It took us three weekends to do online searching, visit the bridges, interview the local people and make the leaflet.
Daming: After collecting all the information and doing the necessary study, we have made them into a leaflet as our product. Let’s take a look.
The two bridges are made of wood. They are called “sister bridges” because they look really similar. Xijin Bridge, the longest bridge, is in Yongkang and the second longest is in Wuyi called Shuxi Bridge.
Lingling: What we’d like to share with you most is our gains and feelings. We are all amazed by the wisdom(智慧) of the ancient bridge builders and feel so proud of our hometown.
Tony: Now, what do you think of our project? Your comments and suggestions are always welcome. Thank you.

Smart phones have become an essential part of our daily lives. This is worrying, as long﹣time use of smart phones harms children's eyesight, cervical vertebrae(颈椎)and even the brain. It was reported China had 175 million Internet users under the age of 18, with 74 percent having their own mobile phones.
It's already common practice in some countries to limit students' use of mobile phones. France passed a law banning the use of mobile phones on school grounds for children under the age of 15. Other countries, including the United States, Italy and Japan, have also passed laws banning students from bringing phones to schools or classrooms.
The Ministry of Education in China released a notice that restricts primary and middle school students from bringing mobile phones to school. Those who require their phones for some need must get their parents' and teachers' approval and must hand their phones over during class time.
An English teacher from Beijing noticed that many students lost themselves in their phones. She said, "Most students are short of self﹣control. Spending too much time on the phone prevents them from learning. " A parent from Shanghai said, "The rules are good for children and limiting phone use is the right way to put their focus back on studies. "
A 16﹣year﹣old student said, "It is unwise to stop all the students taking their phones to school. " He thinks adults can't simply cut them off from the Internet in the digital era and it's more important to cultivate students' ability to manage themselves.

Connecting with Nature
How do you feel when you hear birds singing freely in the trees? What’s your feeling when you see butterflies dancing slowly and lightly in the wind? Whether you love researching the outdoors or watching far away, getting close to nature can take your mind off your worries and make you feel relaxed.
What is nature?
Nature means the world around us that is not man-made, including birds, mountains, trees, the sea and the stars. It’s also a force that controls things like weather. We can find nature wherever we are and wherever we go —beaches, gardens, parks, rivers, and even unexpected places like cracks (裂缝) in the stones.
Why does nature make us feel good?
Spending time in nature brings peace, joy and wonder to our lives. It takes us outdoors, gets us active and lets us care more about the environment. Even a little gift of nature can make us feel free and hopeful, such as breathing in fresh air, listening to the wind in the trees or standing at a mountain. Ralphie, who is 10, likes being close to nature on a bike with his family. He says, “It makes us feel happy and takes our mind off things because we have to pay attention. We are away from traffic and we hear more birdsong and see more wild animals.”
How can we feel closer to nature?
Feeling closer to nature is easy. We can build a connection with nature wherever we are using our senses. Try listening closely to birdsong, smelling flowers and feeling sand between our fingers. Paint a picture and take photos of the natural places that we like best. They may help us feel closer to the natural world. It’s important to try and connect with nature, notice its beauty and how it makes us feel.
