The day finally came, when I had to leave the warm home where I’d grown up. I ran to the back yard, as tears came up from my heart. Suddenly I 36 a hand rest on my shoulder. I looked up to 37 my grandfather. “It isn’t 38 , is it, Billy?” he said softly.
He gently 39 my hand in his, and then we walked, hand in hand, to the front yard, 40 a huge red rose-bush sat alone.
“What do you see here, Billy?” he asked. I looked at the flowers, not knowing 41 to say, and then answered, “I see something soft and 42 , grandpa.”
He pulled me 43 . “It isn't just the roses that are beautiful, Billy. It’s that special place in your heart that makes them so.” “Billy, I 44 these roses when my first son was born. It was my 45 of saying ‘thank you’ to God. I 46 to watch him pick roses for his mother. Then, as a young man of only 20, a terrible war robbed him of his life.” Grandpa slowly stood up. “Never say good-bye, Billy. Never 47 to the sadness and the loneliness. Instead, I want you to remember the joy and the 48 when you first said hello to a friend.”
A year later, my grandpa became very 49 .Then all members of the family
were 50 back, and I returned to the old house. When it came to my 51 , I took his hand as 52 as he had once taken mine.
“Hello, grandpa,” I 53 .His eyes slowly opened and said, “Hello, my friend.” With a brief 54 he died. Suddenly, and truly, I knew what he had 55 about never saying good-bye — about refusing to give in to sadness.

One morning I wasted nearly an hour watching a tiny ant carry a huge feather.Several times, it 36 obstacles(障碍物in its path. And after a pause it made the necessary detour. I’d meant to go to Miros that day. I’d packed my bag and was ready. The motor-boat in on time. The sky was cloudy, but the wind wasn’t too strong for the two-hour . I stood at my window, staring at the boat. Then I lost of her, an old light-house partly blocked my view of the harbor. A dozen passengers were their way there. I was about to join them --- when a man’s face at the light-house window.
This was strange, because the light-house had been empty, unused and for thirty years. It was stranger still --- because I’d seen that before. I couldn’t place it but it was, or had once been, familiar to me. I opened my window and across. “I know we’ve met before, but I can’t remember where.”
I him to open his if he could and answer me. He did neither. The face behind the glass motionless (静止). Seeing him more clearly now, I knew he was not looking at me. He seemed to be looking upwards, the clouds. How well I’d known that face, sometime, somewhere!
I again. “We met years ago. Was it in Athens in the 1950s? I used to live in Plaka.”
He didn’t reply nor give any that he’d heard. I went back further, to I was in the navy. “Perhaps we met at sea during the war,” and that thought at once him to mind. Commander Leftis! He was Commander Leftis of course! How could I have forgotten? I’d saved his life once. But surely he …
The motor-boat her bell. I turned my eyes. The wind had risen, but she was pulling . Laughing, I called, “Now I’ve missed her, and it’s your , Commander!”
As the boat drew away, the face at the window faded. minute it was there. Looking up, I could see the whites of the eyes. The minute it was gone.
Well, I didn’t rush to the light-house. I knew that Leftis was dead. He died at sea in 1963 or 1964. But there’s one other thing I ought to tell you: the motor-boat never reached Miros. It was lost in a storm, with all the passengers.

There was once a group of young people searching everywhere for happiness but what they got was only annoyance, grief and misery.

The group of guys had to the task, laying aside their own business of seeking happiness. It took them a long time to cut down a tall tree, gouging out (挖空) the center. Socrates asked, “My children, do you have happiness now?” They answered in chorus: “We be happier!” Socrates , “That’s it! you are too busy pursuing something to notice anything bitter, happiness will occur.”
From the story I got to know that happiness hides behind every tiny thing that you are involved in, and that you may only get pleasure through work and creativity.
We may have to pain in our daily life and in the process of happiness. So why not turn suffering into life, and tears into the light in your heart? Only in this way can we make it through and find true happiness.
So my dear friends, just remember happiness is a state of mind and a matter of , and I you all a life of happiness.

Last weekend, my kids along with few other kids from the neighborhood volunteered to help me wash my car. My 10-year-old daughter came up with the idea of 36 other people’s cars as well. It was pretty 37 outside and I had no plans to 38 being in the bright sun. She 39 wanted to give lemonade(柠檬汽水)to passers-by for free. I had seen little kids 40 and sell fresh lemonade for a small cost but not free. Although I felt 41 , I decided to help her.

All that seemed 49 and came right from their heart. Nothing seemed to 50 to them: their playtime, the heat outside—they just wanted to 51 others and do something nice in the community!
I helped them make some fresh lemonade and brought out some additional 52 to help clean cars. Passers-by were 53 and one even shouted back to them saying “God Bless You, my kids…” One of them even tried giving them 5 dollars, which they refused. A pretty heartwarming 54 !

There was once a famous king whose name was Tamerlane. Like Alexander the Great, he 36 to become the master of the whole world. So he raised a great 37 and made war on other countries. For a long time he wandered in 40 from place to place. His enemies were 41 him. He was about to lose all hope.
One day he was 42 under a tree, thinking of his failure. He had now been a wanderer for twenty days. He couldn’t 43 any longer. Suddenly he saw a small object climbing up the trunk (树干) of the tree. He looked more 44 and saw it was an ant, 45 a grain of wheat(麦粒) as large as itself.
There was a 46 in the tree only a little way above, and that was the home of the ant.
“You are 47 , Mr. Ant,” he said, “but you are carrying something that is too heavy for you.” Just as he 48 , the ant lost its footing and fell to the ground. But it 49 held on to the grain of wheat. Tamerlane 50 the little insect. It tried the second time, the third time ... the twentieth time — but always with the same 51 . Then it tried the twenty-first time. 52 , one little step at a time, it climbed across the rough place where it had 53 so often.
