Great Britain consists of four countries: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. On the 13^th century Wales was linked to England. In 1603, they were joined to Scotland. They were united in peace instead of by war. Furthermore, just as they were going to get Ireland connecting to form United Kingdom, the southern part of Ireland was broke away, so only Northern Ireland joined with England.
England is the larger of the four countries and for convenience it was divided into three zone: the South of England, the Midlands and the North. Most of the population are settled in the South, and most of the industrial cities is located in the Midlands and the North.
London is the capital city with the great historical treasures, that has the oldest port built by the Romans in the 1^st century AD, the oldest building begun by the Anglo Saxons in the 1060s and oldest castle constructed by later Norman rulers in 1066.

I was real nervous when I got to my new school. I grabbed our bag and walked down toward the dormitory building. With my joy, I got warm welcome, and was shown to my room. I always think my mother is also your good friend. When I lose my first tooth, when I found a friend, and when I fell off from my bike, she was there. She was proud when I succeeded but supportive when I failed. She always listened me. She seemed to know when I was asking for advices and when I just needed a good cry. We actual shared experiences, hopes, sadness and fears. She made me felt that my opinions were never small and silly. She never forgot to tell me what she believed in me. Now my mother is facing with some difficulties in life. I want to tell her everything will be OK and I believe in her, too.

Everyone has a dream. We are on the way to achieve it whether the way is smooth or tough. As Senior 3 student, I have the same dream as my classmates that I can be admitted to an ideal university. In the past three year, I have done everything I can to equip myself with that I have learnt from my teachers. Not only had I enjoyed the pleasure of study but also I have got closer to my dream. Anxiety and pressure did discourage from me at times and with the encouragement of my teachers and classmates, I think I’ll make it.

This is the first time that I had been away from home, so I find it hard to live here. How I wish I can turn to Lucy, who once gave me much help! I had trouble with my study in Grade 9. So frustrating was I that I began to play computer games after school, when I should have paid more attention to catching up with others. Beside, I was even caught cheating in the exam, it worried my parents a lot. When asking about the reason why I fell far behind, I was too guilty to say a word. It was then Lucy came to my help, telling me not to give up. To my amazement, I made a great progress. Finally, I even became one of the top student in my class. In the past, my hometown was very small. People there lived poor life and the houses.were very old and shabby, even some of which were shaking in the wind. As for the traffic，it was very inconvenient that almost no tourists came.

They were all very excited. The sports meeting was great success. That was why we were all making every effort to our class honor. It is good to see that today more people have realized the importance exercising and are playing sports regular. But the problem is that there are not enough sports facilities to meet the public growing demand. I love playing basketball and often play with my friends on weekends. Therefore, it is difficult to rent a basketball field and possible to find a free one. It seems that all courts in the city were always full. Weather permitted, we can play in outdoors. But on rainy days or in winter we have to turn to indoor courts. There are not much in my city, and the charge is high. Recently a survey has been done find out the reading interests of senior middle school students.  With this survey, two thousands senior middle school students from ten schools in Lanzhou were interviewed. They were asking which they liked reading most among the four categories of English articles: news, stories, popular science articles and articles about learning methods.
The survey show that more than a half of the students like to read news most. Twenty-six percent of the students say that English stories are his favorite.
