DNA is the whole "map" of the human body. It is something that all humans have, and it tells the body what to do. DNA is the reason that we look like our parents, because we get some of their DNA to make our own.
People have been trying to understand the human body for a long time. In I860, Mr Mendel discovered why we look the same as other people in our family. It is because of small things called "genes"(基因) in our body. In 1953, two scientists, Watson and Crick, found out that those small parts are really messages. They’re written in the DNA with a special language.
In 1961, another two scientists found the first "word" that they could understand in that language. It shows how DNA tells the cell (细胞)to build its parts, the words in the DNA map, but we still do not understand what they all do. By understanding what just one "word" means, we can help to save people from several illnesses. So the more we understand, the more doctors will be able to do.
Most people hope that this will help to make better medicine and help sick people. Other people worry that when we learn more "words" and find out more information, we will use it in the wrong way, just to make people more attractive, or stop sick people getting jobs.
The two scientists found ______in 1961.

A.all the words in the DNA map
B.small things called "genes" in our body
C.the first "word" they could understand in that language
D.those small parts arc written in the DNA with a special language

How can we help sick people if we understand more "words" in the DNA map?

A.Make better medicine.
B.Make them get jobs.
C.Make maps for them.
D.Make them attractive.

Which one is NOT TRUE according to the article?

A.We look like our parents because of "genes" in our body.
B.We have understood what all the words in the DNA map do.
C.DNA is the whole "map" of the human body.
D.DNA tells the cell to build its parts.

What do people think about this research about DNA?

A.It can be only bad.
B.It can be only good.
C.It can be good but won't work.
D.It can be good and bad

你对颜色了解多少呢?下面的五个段落将会帮助你进一步揭开颜色的奥秘!阅读五个段落,根据每段的中心内容将段前序号填入下面的表格中。
A. There are many colours in nature. Do you know that colours have weight? Let’s do a small test. First, put two objects of the same weight into two boxes. Then, cover one box with a red piece of paper, and the other with a piece of paper. Now hold the boxes in your hand one by one. It is certain that you will think the red one is a little heavier.
B. Why do you think that is? A scientist found that different colours have different weights in a man’s mind. That is to say, every colour has its own weight in our mind. The heaviest colour is red, then blue, green, orange, yellow and white.
C. Colours also have smell. Can you smell the colour? Of course not. Then why do the scientists say this? It is because the smell reaches our brain through sense organs (感觉器官).
D. Scientists say that people react (反应) differently to different colours. Colours you like will make you feel good, but colours you don’t like will make feel nervous or sick.
E. For example, if you sit in a room with red windows, walls and floors for two hours, you’ll you have been there for four fours. But if the room is blue, you’ll feel you have been there for only an hour. If a person goes out of a red room and into a blue room, his temperature will fall. So our bodies change, depending on what colour we see.

Do a test to see if colours have weight.

Colours can change our body temperature.

Colours have smell.

People react differently to different colours.

Why do people think colours have weight?

A TV series(电视剧) in England,Away from it all,has surprised everyone by becoming a success with young people across the country. Its success is surprising because the series is about the relaxing lifestyles of people who live in the country. There is none of the action that we usually see on TV today. There are also no stressful moments, busy offices or crowded cities. Away from it all is set in the peaceful English countryside and tells simple stories about people’s kindness.

They also say that it’s a good sign of today’s young people turning to happier TV series as it shows they want a happier and healthier world.
Although the series’ success might have a good side, many teachers and parents are worried, however. They say that some of their students and children spend more time before TV and are using Away from it all as an excuse for not finishing homework. Some children have even refused to learn for exams because they say that they can only get personal happiness by avoiding stressful situations.
And what do the experts say? Paula Ray, a doctor of education, says that TV can influence children’s lifestyles. Over 30% of the natural world has been seriously destroyed by humans (人类) over the last 30 years. This is because the number of people living on Earth is nearly six billion (十亿). All of these people need food, space and energy. As a result, lots of Earth’s natural resources will be used up. When we destroy our earth to get natural resources such as wood or oil, animals often lose their living space. They cannot have enough food, and they will get hurt or die.
The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is an international charity. It tries to prevent humans from destroying more of nature than is necessary. For example, in China WWF is working with the local government to reconnect (重新连接) some small lakes in Anhui Province to the Yangtze River and to create(创造) more protected areas so that China’s natural beauty will not be lost in the future. WWF works in more than 50 countries, saving rainforests and stopping hunters from killing rare animals and protecting traditional ways of life in areas where they are in danger of being lost. WWF’s main goal is to encourage development that does not harm the environment and the animals that live in it. Even though the charity is known all over the world, and a lot of people support the goals of WWF, not so many donate money often. This makes it difficult for the charity to do all the things it wants to do.
Why has over 30% of the natural world been destroyed?

A.Because hunters are killing rare animals.
B.Because not enough people help WWF.
C.Because WWF does not have enough money.
D.Because there are so many people living on Earth.

How has WWF helped in China?

A.They have protected traditional ways of life.
B.They have helped to protect China’s natural beauty.
C.They have saved many rainforests in Anhui Province.
D.They have built some bridges over the Yangtze River.

What is WWF’s main goal?

A.To save rainforests.
B.To stop hunters killing rare animals.
C.To get more people to donate money.
D.To protect the environment while developing.

Why is it difficult for WWF to do all the things they want to?

A.Because too many people do not know WWF.
B.Because WWF doesn’t have enough money from donations
C.Because there are too many problems for them to solve.
D.Because WWF doesn’t encourage development.
