To many people, art is a human expression of creativity. But in recent years, you may have read news about artificial intelligence(AI) creating its own art, such as painting or writing poems. Some people worry that AI might someday replace(替代) artists.
But this worry seems to be unnecessary,at least for now. Many artists today are turning AI into a useful tool. Instead of replacing artists,AI is bringing artists more possibilities.
A piece of music created by Al recently attracted attention.AI was used to create the music based on the protein(蛋白质) structure of COVID﹣19.The music lasted nearly two hours. The project was led by Markus Buehler, an American musician and MIT professor(教授) of engineering. He assigned(指定) a unique note(独特的音符) to each amino acid(氨基酸)in the protein. The AI then translated these notes into music.
Listeners found the project "mind﹣blowing"."It allows me to see the virus in a new way,"said one listener. This surprising combination(结合) between science and art could not be achived without AI.As The Verge wrote,"AI helps artists play around in unpredictable ways, creating things beyond(超过)what they have ever thought was possible before."
Apart from creating imaginative works,AI can also take care of repetitive(重复乏味的)tasks for artists. For example,in the comic and cartoon industries, there are now AI tools that can automatically(自动)color in back﹣and﹣white line drawings.Although the results can be unpredictable and require a little cleanup,it can give artists room to experiment(实验),by cutting down the time it takes to color each picture.
As Peter Ward wrote for The Culture Trip,"Art of every kind has always been influenced by technological developments."AI can become a useful tool to bring change to the art world if it's welecomed and not unfairly feared.

Mobile phones are one of the most useful inventions of the last 50 years, but not everything that is said about them is good. Mobiles are often believed to be the cause of a number of things from poor eyesight and headaches to house fires. There's even one theory that mobile phones should be responsible for the disappearance of bees!
The theory is that the radiation (辐射) given off by mobile phones does great harm to bees, navigation systems (导航系统). Bees have a built﹣in system a bit like GPS and this helps them find their way back to their hives. But recently, thousands of bees have failed to find their way home. It is believed they are dying far from their hives.
The problem was first noticed by beekeepers in America and is a lot more serious than it at first seems. The important thing about bees is that most of the crops in many countries of the world are pollinated by them. Without bees, the crops can't continue to grow. Many beekeepers in Europe have reported losing between 50 and 70 percent of their bees. Jim Piper, a London beekeeper, said to the reporter, "My business is becoming worse. Twenty nine of my forty hives are now empty."
Nobody knows for sure whether the theory is true or not, but it's a fact that bees are disappearing in very large numbers. And we can't manage without them.Einstein said that if all our bees disappeared, man would only live for four more years! If the mobile phone theory is correct, we need to do something about it right now﹣before it's too late.

To the Editor,
I am writing as a member of One﹣on﹣One,the sixth﹣grade mentoring (指导) group. Our group is two years old and made up of 14 students. Our task is to help students reach their goals through mentoring. We hope the readers of this school newspaper will join our group. This is my first year as a mentor, but I have already learned that everyone taking part in mentoring gets something out of it.
I was assigned (分配) to a mentor last year. Mentoring was one of the best things that happened to me. I was able to turn the corner at an important point in my studies, going from nearly failing math to passing it. It still amazes me that I completely changed from almost hating math to loving it! Would you believe I'm even thinking of studying math in college? Even if I don't, I have skills that I will use for the rest of my life. My own experience made me feel certain of becoming a mentor this year and helping other students like myself. Now that I am a mentor, I realize what a good feeling you get from helping someone else and knowing that you' re making a difference in his or her life.In many situations, lasting friendships are made as well. My mentor and I hit it off right away. And we're still good friends today.
Becoming a mentor is a serious commitment(承诺).Mentors spend one hour every week with the student they are mentoring.Considering your responsibilities,it may be difficult to add another commitment to your schedule. But I hope you will at least consider the possibility.
Thank you for considering our invitation. We look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Mark Lopez

Part of Earth's beauty comes from its oceans. Ocean scientists study the chemical make﹣up of the ocean, weather patterns, the geography of the ocean floor, and many other areas. Their work is exciting, although sometimes dangerous. Using technology to do certain tasks helps. For example, robotic arms are used for very dangerous tasks.
One basic part of ocean study is understanding waves and how they work.Wind is the great maker of waves. The waves we know are mostly produced by winds blowing over the sea. They are directly connected with the wind speed and the time that wind lasts.
Sometimes ocean life can be seen in the wave.Living things seem to be staying within the wave, moving slowly inside it as if they were weightless.Besides the beauty of waves, scientists are interested in their technical ways. The diagram of waves shows how scientists examine waves. Waves are measured (测量)from the top (crest) to the bottom (trough). This allows scientists to find out the height of a wave. They also measure waves from crest to crest to determine(测定)the length of a wave.
During serious storms, huge waves might cut a sea ship apart. Ships are at great risk of winding up as broken pieces after being hit by the force of a huge wave. By understanding the ocean, scientists can prevent this breakup of ships by predicting when the water will be too dangerous for people and their ships. The study of waves and the ocean also allows scientists to make sure how certain beaches were formed. By studying the oceans, a great deal can be learned about the surface we live on.

The longest river in the world is the Nile. It is 4,160 miles long. But the Nile is not the mightiest (浩荡的) river. The Amazon is.The Amazon is also the second longest river in the world. It is 3,900 miles long. How long is that? It is longer than a road going from New York City to San Francisco.
The Amazon is the mightiest for this reason. It has the greatest amount of water. More water runs out to sea than from the Nile. Mississippi, and Yangtze rivers combined. That's a lot of fresh water! The force of its current (水流) is great too. The current can be seen 200 miles out in the sea. There's a story to show the Amazon's amazing current. A ship sailed (航行) far away from Brazil. It ran out of drinking water. Another ship passed by. The first ship asked for water. Someone on the second ship said. "Just put your buckets (桶) into the sea."
Here are a few more facts. At its mouth, the Amazon is 90 miles wide.Even up the river, you can't see the opposite bank. The river is also very deep(from 22 to 76 meters).During rainy season, the river rises about 16 meters more. Big ocean ships can sail about 1,800 miles upstream (向上游).Smaller ships can sail 1,000 miles farther.
What's the most bloodthirsty fish in the world? No. It's not the shark. It's the Amazon's piranha. It is only about 10 cm to 20 cm long. It has sharp teeth. Thousands travel in a group. No animal can swim across the river.A 1,000﹣pound horse would be just bones (骨头) in three minutes. Are you planning a trip to the Amazon? Here's a piece of advice. Leave your swimsuit at home!

Spending more than two hours a night doing homework leads to better results in English, math and science, according to a major study (by Pam Sammons,England) which has tracked (跟踪)the progress of 3,000 children over the past 15 years.
Spending any time doing homework showed advantages, but the influence was greater for the students who put in two to three hours a night, according to the study published by the Department for Education in England.
The scientists who did the research say their study emphasizes (强调)what students actually do rather than how much work the school has set.
Pam Sammons,a professor of education at Oxford University, said that time spent on homework showed the influence of the school﹣if children were expected to do homework and if they enjoy their subjects."That's one of the reasons Indian and Chinese children do better. They put more time in it."he added.
It's also reported that students who enjoyed school got better results."Schools could make sure children had a better experience by improving the school environment, making school work interesting and making children feel supported by teachers."Sammons said.
It is suggested that children aged 5to 7should be set one﹣hour homework a week, half an hour a night for 7to 11﹣year﹣olds.Secondary schools were encouraged to set up two hours a night for 14to 16﹣year﹣olds.

To provide a good living environment for the new arrivals, Fenghuang has built a panda theme park.
Two of the eight pandas, named Long Sheng and Qing Feng, were born in 2000 and 2007 respectively(分别). The other six pandas were born in 2017. They were transported from southwest China's Sichuan Province to Fenghuang by special trucks.
Before the transportation, the eight pandas were placed under observation in the giant panda protection center, and they are now in good health.
Teng Qiong, director of Fenghuang County Forestry Bureau, said that the pandas were transported in refrigerator trucks for their safety and comfort. Several trucks were rented(租用),with four trucks carrying two giant pandas each, while one truck carried enough bamboo and bamboo shoots for five days, and another empty truck was kept on standby.
"During the transportation, we rested at the high﹣speed service areas for 30 minutes every three hours. The keepers provided food and water for the pandas and carefully observed their health condition,"Teng said.
Construction of the panda theme park in Fenghuang started at the end of 2018. It includes a panda house, a panda hospital, a feed processing room, a tourist service center, a science museum and other supporting projects. There will be 16 professional keepers to take care of the pandas in the park.
