More than one-million school children in the United States have gone through a program called Reading Recovery(阅读恢复). The program is for six-year-olds with difficulties in learning to read.
Reading Recovery came to the United States in 1984. Education expert(专家) Marie Clay of New Zealand developed the program. A number of other countries also use this method. Programs are quite different from school. The Reading Recovery Council of North America says more than 25% of the United States public schools with first grades use the program.
The Reading Recovery method requires a specially trained reading teacher to work with children one at a time. The lessons take a half hour each school day, including reading, writing and the study of the letters of the alphabet(字母表).
Reading Recovery lessons take place for twelve to twenty weeks. During the lessons, the teacher looks for ways that the child seems to learn best. Then the teacher works to help the students develop these methods to solve problems in reading. The idea is for the students to continue to use these methods each time they read.
Reading Recovery students read many short books. Some of the books are written in a way similar to spoken language. Children also read and write stories or messages in their own words. The material gets harder with time.
The lessons end when the students’ reading ability is within the average level(平均水平) of the class. The Reading Recovery Council of North America says eighty percent of the students who finish the lessons can read and write within their class average. The leader of this program says more than ninety-nine percent of the Reading Recovery students in the schools passed the state reading examination.

Alexander Graham Bell was a British man who was a teacher to people who could not hear. He was born in Edinburgh ， Scotland in 1847 and went to school in Edinburgh and London. People who cannot hear any sounds at all are called deaf people， and Alexander became interested in helping them to learn to speak. He taught people how to use their mouths to make the sounds needed for talking.
Bell’s family moved to Canada in 1870 and to the USA in 1871. For several years he taught the people who could not speak in Boston( 波士顿). But at the same time he was developing a way to use electricity to send the sounds of talking along a wire(电线)， and he made the first telephone in June， 1875. He worked hard in his workshop for six months with his helper Tom Watson. Finally ， he spoke these famous words slowly into the telephone， “Mr. Watson， come here. A short Chinese man is one of the biggest man in the world right now. He is Ma Yun, the Chairman of Alibaba Group. On Sept,19,2014 Alibaba went public(上市) and raised 25 billion dollars. Ma, a former English teacher, has become the richest man in China.
Bora in 1964 in Hangzhou, Zhejian, Ma grew up as a happy kid. When he was a teenager, he wanted to learn English. Every morning, he got up at 5 a.m rode his bike for 40 minutes to a hotel near the West Lake and talked with foreigner tourists in English. He did it for nine years, rain or shine.
The experience made him an excellent English speaker and also opened his eyes to the outside world. In 1994, Ma heard about Internet for the first time. And on a trip in 1995 to the US, Ma was shown in Internet for the first time. He searched the word “beer” on Yahoo, and found that there was nothing there about China. We know that there are too many Net bars(网吧) around us. The Internet makes our lives interesting. Many of us like going online very much because we can learn how to use the computer.
