Every place offers the possible dangers for getting hurt, even staying at work. We may face dangers like walking into desks or chairs, receiving unexpected cuts from a paper knife and so on. Industrial jobs have similar and more dangers like getting body parts hurt by machines or falling from a height.
No one wants to get hurt. Some accidents are avoidable(可避免的). Most accidents happen because of common things seen every day—an open desk drawer, a chair pulled out too far, water on the floor and so on. We slowly get used to these things we see every day and never think about what they could possibly become in the future.
Think about the following to prevent dangers to yourself and others:
1. If there is something you see and know may become a danger for yourself or others, do something about it. Close a desk drawer, clean up or put a sign over the water, turn off the power before leaving, and so on.
2. Get extra persons’ help and support on a task that is too hard for a single person.
3. Study the situation and think what could possibly happen and change if necessary. Do it before something happens and you won’t have to say some day, “ I should have… How sorry I feel…”
To use an old phrase ‘Safety is everyone’s duty.’ Looking down on it could lead to being hurt. Keep the rule in mind every day “ Everyone wants to go home in the same condition they came to work in -– or better.”

Everyone needs to understand something about money: Where it comes from, how to save it and how to spend it wisely. Too many parents don’t take time to teach their children about money, and as a resulut, many of those children don’t know how to deal with money when they grow up.
When should parents begin teaching their children about money? Experts agree that it’s never too early. The more children learn about money, the more wisely they will be able to deal with money as they grow older. To begin with, parents can teach kids how to count money.
Next, parents can teach kids to save money. For example, your children want a new bike. You can teach them to save part of their pocket money for that bike, while still keeping some money for ice cream and movies. In this way they will begin to understand the meaning of saving.
Also it’s never too early to teach your children different ways to make money. For example, they can wash cars, clean gardens, look after babies and so on. Sit down with your children and talk with them about some ways they can make money. You’ll be surprised and glad at the effort they will begin making.

Writing a good story is no easy task. What’s the secret? Mo Yan, the Nobel Prize winner in literature in 2012, believes his success comes from a large amount of reading.
Mo was born into a farming family in a village in Shandong Province. He grew up listening to folk stories about gods, spirits and foxes. Those stories later became the inspiration (灵感) for Mo’s writing.
Mo left school at the age of 12 and started to work in the fields. Although he was tired after his daily hard work, Mo was always hungry for books. However, there were very few in the village. He read his older brother’s textbooks and even dictionaries. He helped others with farm work in exchange for books.
“When I finished reading all the books around, I thought I was the most knowledgeable man in the world,” he told Xinhua.
After Mo left his hometown and joined the army in 1976, he began to read widely, including works by Lu Xun and many other famous writers.
He studied from these writers but did not copy them. Instead, he developed his own style. “I grew up in an environment filled with folk culture. It enters my novels whenever I pick up a pen. This has influenced, even decided, my style,” Mo told a group of reporters in his hometown shortly after he won the award in 2012.
As the first Chinese citizen to win a Nobel Prize in literature, the organization spoke highly of his works. They described his writing as a mixture (混合体) of fantasy and reality, combining historical and social perspectives (看法).

Kyra Komac, 28 years old, now has 25 furniture(家具) stores all over the country. The new store, in London’s Camden High Street, takes her back to where it all started. She tells us about how the business began.
When I was little, my mother began selling flowers in Camden Market. She couldn’t leave me at home on my own, so I had to go to the market with her.
To begin with, I didn’t have to do anything. I just sat there, and my mum told me jokes and stories so I didn’t get bored. When I got older, I gave my mum a hand and I really enjoyed it.
Then, one year, my grandma gave me a book for Christmas. It was all about making candles and I loved it. I was 14, and I didn’t have to go to the market any more because mum could leave me at home on my own. I made candles of all shapes and sizes in my free time. I made hundreds of them.
One day, my mother was ill so I had to go to the market on my own. I decided to take some candles with me and see if I could sell them. They were sold out in twenty minutes! The next week, my mum gave me some money to buy some wax(蜡) to make more candles. They sold out really quickly, too.
Nine months later, we decided to stop selling flowers. My mum and I couldn’t make enough candles during the week, so some of my school friends started to give us a hand. I paid them £1 for every candle, and we used to sell them for three or four times that. It was fun and my friends worked with me in the market.
At the age of 22, my uncle helped me to open my first shop in Portobello Road by lending me some money. Since then, I’venever looked back, even in difficulties. In the first store, we only sold candles, but now we sell everything from furniture to paintings. Oh, and candles, of course.
How many furniture stores does Kyra Komac have now?
Where did Kyra’s mother sell flowers? (no more than 3 words)
What did Kyra do in her free time when she was fourteen?
Who helped when Kyra and her mum couldn’t make enough candles?(no more than 5 words)
How did Kyra’s uncle help her to open her first shop?

Now students’ English handwriting gets worse and worse. Their teachers worry about that. Is your English handwriting beautiful? If not, here are four steps that really work.
Use paper with lines
Using paper with lines can keep you writing straight instead of up or down when you write English words or sentences. Those lines on the paper can help you to write words in the right size. Be sure to fill the lined space completely. And remember to write those capital(大写) letters properly.
Slow down
If your writing is hard to read, try slowing down a little. For some kids, going a little slowly makes the handwriting clear. If you write too fast, it’s hard for you to stop where you should, and even worse, you may make more mistakes.
Hold your pencil correctly
When you hold your pencil correctly, writing is much easier. Some kids press down really hard when they write. That makes the handwriting not nice. Try to relax(放松) and don’t hold the pencil so hard. Let your writing appear nice and clean. If you do so, people will guess you are a student with a good habit.
Draw more pictures
Drawing can improve your handwriting. You need to use the skills to control your pencil better when you are drawing pictures. Even though(即使) you have no chance to draw at school, you can practice on your own at home.
Handwriting is very important. Imagine(想象) you are a world-famous movie star or a well-known sports player, what do you do when your fans run up to you? Give them your autographs(亲笔签名), of course!

Every year in October, my school holds a swimming competition. This is a day where we all skip (跳过) a day of school, and instead spend it taking part in swimming races.
I took part in six different races. I came first in one of them! However in the other five, I came second . We also helped the younger students race, by swimming alongside them, holding them above the water and making sure they stay safe.
In this event, we compete not only for ourselves, but for our color house to win. The students are sorted(分类) into four different color houses. So we can earn(赢得) points for our success as a group, learn teamwork and do our best. These houses are Blue, Green, Red and Gold. When we are not racing, we are cheering for our friends and trying to earn extra points for our color house for good sportsmanship(运动员精神).
At the end of the day, there are two major awards. The first award is age champion. When you put up your hands in class, the teacher knows you want to say something or ask questions. You shake your head and people know you are saying: “No”. You nod and people know you are saying “Yes”. Other things can also carry messages. For example, a sign at the bus stop helps you to know which bus to take. A sign on the door tells you where to go in or out. Have you ever thought that there are a lot of signs around you and that you receive messages from them all the time?
