Have you ever studied abroad? Maybe it is an amazing experience, especially when you come to Australia as an foreign high school student. You can have a lot of fun there, especially on holidays.
There are many festivals in Australia. The most important one is Christmas. Each year, the summer holidays at every high school last about two months from the beginning of December to February, which covers the Christmas time. Since it is a long holiday, most foreign students in Australia love to fly back to their home countries to spend the time with their families and friends, but a few students still stay in Australia during the holiday to get part-time jobs. In its first study of children’s safety in the US, the National Safe Kids Campaign(NSKC) founds that nearly half of the injury-related(与受伤相关的) deaths among children happened in summer.
Experts are not surprised by the study’s results. They always know summer is a dangerous season for children. During the summer, children are out of the school and spend more time outdoors. Once upon a time, all the feelings(感受) such as Happiness, Sadness and Love lived together on an island. One day the feelings heard that the island would sink(下沉). July 16th was a bad day for Arthur Johnson. In the morning, he set off from his home in Santa Barbara, California. It was the start of his summer holidays, and he decided to visit his friends at Las Vegas. Then he hoped to go fishing at Lake Mead.
Johnson’s troubles started while he was driving happily across the Mojave Desert. His car was broken and he tried to repair it, but he failed. He telephoned a workshop to ask it to send a tow truck (拖车) to pull the car away and repair it.
When waiting for the tow truck, he fell asleep. While he was sleeping, a tow truck arrived from San Pedro and pulled his car away. Later on, Johnson woke up and thought that somebody stole(偷,盗) his car. Unwillingly, he started to walk back towards San Pedro, but a police car stopped him to find out why he was walking in the desert. Johnson looked like a man wanted in California for robbery(抢劫), so the police kept him at San Pedro for the night.
