Everyone can change the world
What can we do to help protect the environment? It seems useless to just pick up a piece of trash (垃圾), but what will happen if you keep doing it every day? Tommy Kleyn, an ordinary man from the Netherlands, may give you the answer.
Tommy Kleyn walked past a polluted river on his way to work every day. It used to be a beautiful view, but the trash on the bank made it dirty and smelly. SoTommy decided to pick up the trash along the river a little bit at a time after work. “It took me about 30 minutes to fill one garbage(垃圾)bag with trash, but one garbage bag didn't seem helpful in a place as polluted as this. I decided to fill one bag of trash each day as I passed by,"Tommy said. Every day,Tommy took pictures of the river and shared them on his Facebook page. To his surprise, in just six days, he had made great progress with his cleanup effort(努力). He felt happy and kept doing it. Gradually, more and more people knew aboutTommy's story. Other people in the community began following in his footsteps and cleaning up trash on their way home, too.
“The idea is to encourage people to fill one garbage bag with litter each day. It only takes 30 minutes, but it really makes a difference and you will be amazed at how good you feel afterwards," he said.
People from all over the world have been moved and inspired(激发) by Tommy's story. No effort is useless if we keep doing it every day. Ordinary people like you and me can also make a difference to the world we live in if we take actions right now.
Did Tommy Kleyn walk past a polluted river on his way to work every day?
What did Tommy decide to do after work?
Where didTommy share the pictures of the river that he took?
Whobegan following in Tommy’s footsteps and cleaning up trash?
What can you learn from the story?
One day in the morning, a little girl made her daily trip to school on foot though there were many dark clouds in the sky. When school was over, the little girl walked home carrying nothing in her hands. On the way home, winds blew hard and rain poured down.
The mother worried that her daughter would be scared because of flashes lightening (闪电) . The mother drove to her daughter’s school in a hurry. On the way home, the mother saw the little girl walking alone in the rain. When a flash of lightning came, the little girl stopped, looked up and smiled. Another followed. The little girl stopped, looked up and smiled. A third came. The little girl stopped, looked up and smiled. With the coming of the following flashes of lightning, the little girl repeated the same thing.
After the little girl got into the car, the mother wondered why she stopped, looked up and smiled when lightening came. Wearing a bright smile, replied the girl, “Mom, when a flash of lightening came, I felt a bit scared. Seeing this, God would take a picture of me. I knew he was playing an interesting game with me to drive away my fear (恐惧). ”
You see, if you look at the world from a different view(视角), the world is really amazing.

The famous saying “He who does not reach the Great Wall is not a true man”. It shows clearly that the Great Wall is really a wonderful place to visit. As the longest wall on the earth, also one of the wonders in the world, the Great Wall runs across North China like a huge dragon. It has a history of over 2,000 years and it has been rebuilt and repaired many times. Many people died while building the wall. The workers didn’t build the wall with machines but finished the work all by hand. As one of the few man—made objects on the Earth that can be seen on the moon, it’s visited by large numbers of people from all parts of the country and the world.

Returning a Father’s Love
He was a single father, raising a 5-year-old boy by himself. He often worried about his son growing up without a mother to care for him.
One day, he went away on business, leaving the child alone. He worried about his child all the way, not knowing if he had eaten. But his child always told him not to worry. He went home after he finished his work.
When he got home, the child was deep asleep. He was tired out. He was about to sleep when he was surprised to find an overturned (翻到的) bowl of noodles under the quilt (被子). He hit his sleeping son angrily, “Why are you so careless, making the quilt dirty? Who will wash it?” It was the first time that he had hit his boy after his wife’s death.
“Sorry, but…” the child explained with tears in his eyes, “This is your supper, Daddy.” In order to let his father eat dinner when he arrived home, the child prepared two bowls of noodles: one for himself, the other for his father. We students should remember not to be naughty and get ourselves into trouble . What’s more , we can have some practice to learn to protect ourselves from a fire . In this way , we can know where to go if there is a fire in our school . Internet is educational. Many people think children should be allowed to surf the Internet as they wish. In this way, they can look through different subjects on different kinds of websites according to their own interests. But in my opinion, children should always be watched while surfing the Internet.
Many websites have information and pictures that children should not see. There are many things that children don’t understand. All of these may have some bad influence on children’s development. Also, it is dangerous to let children chat in rooms by themselves. Many parents tell their children not to talk to strangers on the street, so they should be careful of whom their children talk to on the Internet too. What’s more , sitting in the front of a computer for a long time isn't good for children’s eyes, so parents should monitor(监视) the time that children spend on the Internet.
In a word, children should be kept away from anything that could be bad for them. I strongly believe that it is necessary for parents to watch their children when they use the Internet.

Good morning, boys and girls. Today I’ll give you a talk about going online.
We know that there are too many Net bars(网吧) around us. The Internet makes our lives interesting. Many of us like going online very much because we can learn how to use the computer. We can learn English and read some newspapers and magazines to know more information around us. It can make us clever in playing computer games. Also when we send e-mails to our friends, they can get them right away. It can help us keep in touch with people from all over the world.
But some students spend too much time in playing computer games and some stay in the Net bars all day and all night. It takes them too much time to chat online so they do worse in their lessons and they don’t study well any more. I think we mustn’t get online when it is time for us to study. We can do it in summer or winter holidays. I think we should get online with our teachers or parents.
At the same time, if we have lots of free time, we can do some activities after school. We usually have activities from 4:50 to 5:50 in the afternoon. We can play basketball or football. We also have some interest groups in school, such as drawing, singing and dancing. We can go to the English corner on Monday afternoon. I hope we can spend more time on our subjects or on such activities that we can learn a lot from and less time on the Internet.
That’s all! Thank you.
